Kitchen geometry: how to properly arrange furniture and appliances in the kitchen

For kitchens of any layout, interior designers usually use the "triangle rule", which significantly increases the ergonomics of the kitchen space. The three main attributes of the kitchen - a sink, a stove and a refrigerator - form the vertices of a triangle, and its sides are the hostess's routes. The length of the sides of the triangle depends on the area of the kitchen and can be from 1 to 2.5 m.

Properly positioned kitchen equipment makes it much easier to work in the kitchen and move around it. For a full-fledged working ruler, a tabletop about 3 m long is required. Sometimes the size of the kitchen does not allow placing the entire ruler along one wall, and this is not very convenient. Most often they use a layout in the form of the letter "P", in the form of the letter "G" (angular), equilateral - along two parallel walls, linear - for a kitchen with an island. The most successful variant of the triangle is implemented in a kitchen with an angular layout, where the tops are located on different walls. The refrigerator is usually located in the corner. When installing, pay attention to which way the doors open. For maximum ease of use, the door should open to the nearest wall. Many modern refrigerator models have reversible doors.

The space allotted for the refrigerator in the kitchen should allow the doors to be opened at 90 °, that is, completely, when the doors are not fully open, the drawers for vegetables and freezers cannot be pulled out. Also, during installation, it is necessary to maintain the distances to walls and kitchen furniture specified in the instruction manual. The kitchen sink must be deep enough and the tap spout high enough to fit a large saucepan. A matte sink is more practical for the kitchen; dried water drops are less noticeable on it. The distance from the sink to the sewer pipe should not exceed 3 m.

It is more convenient to place the dishwasher next to the sink, then it will be easier to connect it to the necessary communications.
It is not recommended to place the sink next to the stove or hob for safety reasons, as splashing water on a hot frying pan with oil can cause it to splatter. In addition, for those who adhere to feng shui traditions in interior design, the location of the kitchen sink close to the stove can become an unfavorable neighborhood, since it will lead to a conflict of the elements of water and fire. Too remote location of the stove and sink is inconvenient for the hostess and can cause irritation. In this case, the ideal distance is 40-60 cm, this is about the width of a large cutting board. The gas stove should be placed at a distance of at least 50 cm from the openable sash of a window or balcony door so that a gust of wind does not extinguish the flame. Traditional corner placement is not always optimal for two reasons:

firstly, according to safety standards, the distance from the walls to the slab should be 6-7 cm;
secondly, grease splashes that form during cooking are easier to wash off the horizontal surface of the countertop than from the vertical side wall.
The hood is usually mounted 65-75 cm above the stove. For tall people, it can be placed at a height of 80-85 cm, but do not forget that the higher the hood is located, the more powerful it should be. Also, do not forget that, according to safety standards, in kitchens where gas boilers or columns with combustion products are installed into chimneys, it is impossible to install artificially induced hoods if separate ventilation ducts are not provided for them. For the flow of air into the kitchen, a gap or grate must be provided at the bottom of the door.

The height of the tabletop of the working area is usually 85 cm, for tall people - 90-100 cm.You can determine the height that is optimal for you by bending your elbows parallel to the floor and measuring 15 cm down.
The height of the dining table is usually lower than that of the working table and is 70-80 cm.
If you arrange the furniture in the kitchen according to these principles, then you will be as comfortable as possible in cooking, and cooking will not turn into a routine.

The optimal solution for the kitchen is the organization of two types of lighting. In order not to obstruct the light, you can use local lighting by placing the lamps on wall cabinets (in the lower part or on the cornices).
General lighting will be provided by a ceiling light in the center of the kitchen or above the dining table. Also, to improve illumination, it is recommended to think over the location of the work surfaces so that you are not constantly with your back to the window.

Sveta, and you enter the kitchen from the corridor or there is a room. Is it just possible to put a large table there for the whole family, and make it in the kitchen for 1-2 people, not all the time everything is at home.
No you can not. There is a very small corridor type, and even with 2 steps. So along the wall, I plan to put a rack under the equipment. And it is purely a checkpoint.
Yes, we rarely eat all together now, but we want to. Only 2 seats at the table, and I'm always standing.
And my husband and I have dinner in the room to watch TV. So what we want to do to make it convenient and comfortable to have dinner in the kitchen. Well, with a TV set, of course)

And the oven just looks like a countertop. Or where the microwave is, under it, or somewhere else. It's the size of a microwave, maybe a little bigger.
This program does not put a table (
And it seems to me purely visually that there is not enough space for the table.
But the headset there is 60 cm wide, and the refrigerator when it stood there, where the headset is now, was 67 wide. Unless a chair could be put right next to the refrigerator, you cannot move it to the headset like that.

Lisichkalal, then the oven in this corner is definitely not an option, because imagine, you are cooking in it or have cooked, it is hot, and you all sit down to eat ...
I had an idea, though raw, that on the wall where the window is, let the lower tables not 60 cm deep, but 45 cm deep, for example, then there will be more space and there will be less piling up in the cabinets. Something like this.

Lisichkalal, also a great option, I proceeded from the fact that the refrigerator is only in that corner. You know, only the hostess herself knows how comfortable and better for her.We spend so much time in the kitchen. Especially here those who are hovering that it is necessary to focus only on personal interest. Your children are small, but they grow quickly. My eldest over there ate 10 minutes and retreated for a tablet. And I stay to clean up, cook something new.

And the table will fit, if you do not want to go around take, which is a crescent moon, in which one half can fall. You have about 90 cm left on it. The main thing is less sharp corners.

Therefore, I repeat a hundred times that it is impossible to directly immediately embody what was invented.)) Because after some time, the subconscious mind will push to the surface some kind of missed joint. You need to compose and draw everything (perhaps in several versions at once) and let the ideas lie down. After a while, some of the plans that once seemed brilliant finds will seem outright nonsense, tested and not only by me.

So everything seems to be drawn as optimal and that's it, put it off, live with the thoughts that this is how it will be (the color of the kitchen and wallpaper would also be good to mentally pick up in advance). If even in a couple of weeks there is no desire to change anything, it means that ideas really have the right to life. Although I was sometimes persistently disgusted with even the configuration of the kitchens with which I "lived" in my mind for four months.

I also like the idea of a dining area in small kitchens as a continuation of the main countertop. It greatly reduces the amount of detail, adding a sense of spaciousness. Last year, we made the second kitchenette, which was redesigned from the balcony, and we also did the same. Only there are two doors in a narrow long space, so no corners came out, unfortunately.

Although the problem of non-standard chairs comes up in the case of a higher table top.
Lisichkalal

And it doesn't have to be unfolded. Simply the worktop-dining area is brought under the main worktop-work area. The joint can be beaten by figuring out an extra shelf in that place for the necessary little things.

And I have a chronic prejudice to the folding options. Experience shows that either getting them from time to time will be associated with inconveniences, or vice versa - closing them. And then IT will stick out in the open almost all the time. So why not make it beautifully, conveniently, and most importantly - stable at once?))

for that matter, you can make an additional folding table, although I have no idea where to stick it
Sveta, I have the same layout, in fact, the door is located in the same way, only the kitchen is wider, about 3m
the refrigerator is the same as yours in 1 picture, in the corner,
At first I wanted to put it in the line, but it's better built into the line, and I have a new one, I don't need another one, and the built-in ones are always smaller in volume
next to the refrigerator there is a table and 4 chairs, I plan a TV set on the wall to the left of the entrance
we removed the doorway, in general, all the way to the ceiling
you say that you will have a rack where you can put equipment? so this is generally a pestnya)))) how much space will be freed

and I'm sitting here now, looking and do not understand where to stick the corner here, add. countertops, it will be cramped for me, but I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and I brought my laptop here)))

a friend has the same layout, she has a corner kitchen to the left of the entrance, the lower cabinets are at first narrow by 40 cm, then in a standard line of 60 cm, a built-in refrigerator ends the line at the wall (where is your window), all upper cabinets are up to the ceiling
besides that, the kitchen has a large table and 4 chairs
she has little space in the closets, there is little working area, the refrigerator is high, but there is not enough space in it (((and she cooks this 2 times a week, together with her husband they live for now, but I cook every day and I have enough space and space)) )

IMHO, the most correct option. And if here the window was a window in the right place, then it would be worth doing so. But these 20 or how many centimeters between the window and the wall spoil the whole picture. ((Probably, it would be worthwhile to still make a normal window by moving it to a standard distance, winning the corner, at least under the column, at least under the refrigerator.

I have the same question for a future kitchen. Now I have a dryer 80 cm wide. By the amount of stuffed - the very thing. If you make 60 cm - won't it be enough? The family is three people, the dishes are about 2.5 sets per person, plus a bunch of all sorts of shureshka such as graters and bowls are stored in the same place - for lack of space.

The artist is still one of me, of course. But here's how I would do "for myself" in this case (albeit offhand, without much optimizations and reflections):

Furniture for kitchen

I missed the distance to the door, so one row of drawers is superfluous.) Well, I dislike sofas of this kind, I could just do with chairs - practice shows that it is more convenient to dine with them, and take up less space. On the right, between the hood (the built-in is drawn, as the most accurate option) and the refrigerator-oven, you can fence at will, even the cabinets, even the open shelves (I don't really respect it either).

But you need to hide the heating nightmare somewhere else. But I do not impose this option - it is presented solely as an extra proof on the topic "how we are all different."

I went to take a picture. True, the plates are not all. Dessert ones are raised higher on salad bowls, which we use only once a month, and the main ones are in another cabinet, 6 of them are the same (overturned on the left side). No, I also have huge panthers. But also in a different place, next to salad bowls and pots, because I rarely use it, and I'm afraid to shove everything into the wall cabinets in order to avoid a collapse - the dishes are heavy !!.

Bijou, that is, it turns out that two shelves of a small height are occupied - both above the table, right?
I, too, periodically fear that the dryer is too heavy when it is loaded with all the dishes. And, in fact, there are no other options - either a dryer or a shelf for dishes, but there is only room for one thing.
Bijou
Chardonnay, well yes. The left one is above the dishwasher. I take out the plates straight with zhmeny, passing my fingers between them, and immediately shove them onto the shelf. Although it took some time to "optimize" when I moved back and forth in a new box. And in the end, this order has been going on for five years already. )

These boxes turned out for me not according to my size, but in a random order - the space between the pencil case and the hood was divided into three parts. Width 70 centimeters, probably. But in general, I really respect wide spaces - we have metaboxes almost a meter in both kitchens.)) Because there is more space without extra walls. I'd rather place the basket inside the basket than I'll be huddled in boxes - there is little freedom of maneuver, and there are a lot of thick partitions that eat up cubic centimeters, and kitchen workers have to pay for them and additional accessories.
Chardonnay
I would have had those wide spaces - I would have turned around! While I'm afraid to imagine what can be done on my 5.5 sq. m .... Collecting ideas, maybe by retirement I will make the kitchen more or less comfortable. At the moment, we are eating completely in a large room - that is, we first carry the plates of food there, then the empty plates back .. Very troublesome.
Bijou
I counted my dishes, usually on the shelf. It turned out about 18-20 deep bowls (which are really deep, and not small saucers on a soup ladle), 30 pieces for the second, 12 dessert bowls, 6 saucers, two salad bowls on them, one broth bowl (there are plastic boxes on it in the corner), pieces 10-12 personal glass bowls, one blender jug and one coffee / tea press jacket. Maybe she missed something else ...

I went to look for built-in dryers to compare the usable space. I don't know which ones are needed, these seemed quite spacious.

It is not a corner, but just such a shop with a locker. It takes up much less space than just a seating area. We have a similar set - a bench with a locker for 2 people and 2 chairs.
