Irish soda bread

Category: Yeast bread

Ingredients

Wheat flour 250 g
Whole flour 250 g
Hercules (flakes) 100 g
Buttermilk 500 ml
Salt 1 tsp
Diced butter 25 g
Soda 1 tsp

Cooking method

  • 1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl and rub in oil. Pour in the buttermilk and quickly knead the dough using a wide, blunt knife or spatula, then quickly and easily knead the dough with your fingertips (take it very, very gently). Then form a flat, round loaf with a diameter of 20 cm.
  • 2. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C. Sprinkle the baking sheet with flour. Place the loaf on a baking sheet, cut a cross on the surface. Bake for 30-35 minutes. The bread is ready when the bottom gives off a dull hollow sound when you knock on it.
  • 3. Transfer to a wire rack, cover with a clean towel and allow to cool. Serve warm.

The bread tasted "old". Such a gingerbread tastes nice.
So I imagine an Irish village from the time of Henry 8 .......))))))

p. from. It's good that I still did half the portion))) We wouldn't eat a kilo ...

Tell me, can you replace buttermilk with whey?

Buttermilk is a whey obtained by whipping butter from cream or sour cream

I think you can))
I took kefir at all.

And the gingerbread turned out to be about the same as Alexandra's in the pictures. Only without dried fruits)) Such a savory option
