Lena, got it. I have a living fungus, and the instructions for it are for dried. So I will wash it.

We have a new resident in the kitchen - we must call him something. .. he is still small, so I feel sorry for him to rinse-pour new milk and that's it. When not needed, I put it in the refrigerator upstairs, yesterday I made cottage cheese from the collected kefir for the first time - it came out of 2.5 l / 400 grams, and I noted whey in portions for 4 bread ...

kartinka, I think, it is imperative to flush, otherwise it will flood and get sick.

Ikra, Irina, I still have him small, maybe that's why he is already fine, but I will keep in mind. Kefir is still excellent, but I fill in a small container - a half-liter jar, then I drain it and fill it again. It has been worth it for a month already. But it doesn't grow very much either (not by leaps and bounds, although this speed suits me).

Hello everybody!
Yesterday I decided to revive the fungus frozen 4 years ago. I wonder if it will work or not? Has anyone had this experience? How long should you wait for a full recovery, if possible? In the meantime, he is filled with milk in a jar from under Agusha. Yesterday I poured it in, today I changed it for fresh milk (the milk never fermented). I hope the result will be better tomorrow.

My mushroom is also frozen for 4 years. At first I drank a lot of kefir, then I got tired, I can't buy normal milk for him every day, so he rests with me. I did not try to defrost it. Share your experience, how he will behave, very curious.

I am reporting! After 4 years (and maybe more) the fungus is alive! Alive, my dear and sour milk!

And it all started with the fact that while discussing the life of a large family with a friend, I complained that I was no longer strong with the sores of my youngest son (3 years old).
He just went to kindergarten and colds do not want to let us go. We go to the d / s for a week, 2 weeks at home. Every month we have otitis media due to snot. I made a vitamin mixture from our site in order to somehow maintain immunity, but the children did not eat, so it lies in the refrigerator. The younger one is constantly on antibiotics because of otitis media. And so, my friend says, you need to find a milk mushroom and instead of Acipol, give kefir, it will quickly help you recover from an illness. And then I remembered that I had such a mushroom in my freezer.
I took it out, put it (without defrosting, without washing) in a jar from under Agusha, filled it with milk from the refrigerator and left it for 24 hours. A day later, the milk did not ferment, the fungus (I don’t know all or only a part, it’s not visible in the milk) was floating at the top. I tried the milk, it was not tasty, with some kind of aftertaste. Maybe this is due to the fact that he lay in the freezer for a long time and absorbed the smell. I fished it under cool water, poured fresh milk again and after 12 (!) Hours I got kefir (I can't insert a photo through my phone, I can't).

I defrost the mushroom several times (not the same one, but in portions), broke off a piece, put it in warm water for 1-2 hours, washed it and then poured it with milk. The mushroom is alive and ferments normally, the first 2-3 days it takes a little more time, and then it "diverges".

Downloaded from a beech (barely remembered how to do it)
Tibetan kefir mushroom
The kefir turned out to be very thick. I turned the jar on a barrel to take a picture, the kefir did not flow out anywhere.

Karsei, thanks, but in general the experience - I also have a piece in the freezer just in case, but I also dried it a little - though I haven't tested a single option ... now I will know that freezing does not harm.

The girls, most likely, have already asked here, tell me, if you make curd from this kefir, by heating it on the stove, will it fit for Easter curd?

It seems to me that she even benefits him, several times she has already frozen him back and forth (in a bag, and in a container so that it does not freeze) and everything is ok.

Trishka, I constantly make cottage cheese from kefir already in the headquarters for 60 *, I did not do it on the stove (since there is a cartoon - it is convenient that you do not need to follow t ...), cottage cheese is also in the freezer later, if you don't need it right away (kefir is constantly arrives ....) or melt on cheese (from frozen too)
Trishka
kartinka, Marish, thanks!

Tell me please. Every week I buy farm milk, it must be boiled ... Does boiled milk make kefir? Otherwise I would have got my mushroom out of the freezer.
Alternatively, there is still pasteurization, but I don't want to bother with it, it's easier for me to boil.
