I also want to add that the BRAUN Fs-20 steamer is still not designed for a family, that is, in one tier, you can put 5-6 manti, depending on their size, 6 medium potatoes.
Natusichka
Please recommend a good steamer.
It is desirable that it be compact in storage and good in work.

I have a VES electric steamer, made in Spain, they gave it to me. Has been working faithfully for 10 years. Trays 3, compact storage (with my minimum amount of space in the kitchen). I am very pleased. I cook almost everything in it: fish, vegetables, cereals, soups, manti, dumplings, khanum, steam cutlets.
Mirabel
I have a SEB-local version of Russian Tefal. It folds very compactly, is very unpretentious in care and gives out everything very tasty.
Recommend!

Thank you!

What do you think about these? Worth it or not?
Beska
Good evening everyone. I am also the owner of Brown 20, I have not been overjoyed by my assistant for 10 years already. But recently the question arose of additional dishes in a double boiler. In general, sometimes instead of 1 large rice bowl, I need 2 smaller ones. I don't know what to put in a double boiler? I tried a plastic container for microwave ovens, but under the influence of steam it deformed and the lid from it would no longer fit. Maybe someone smart will advise?

Any metal mold, any jelly mold. There are such plastic baskets in mind. I even put these on steam in a pressure cooker, and there the pressure is worse than in a conventional double boiler.

Thanks, I'll try.

Beska,
I put on a suitable size earthenware, or porcelain bowls, or ovenproof dishes.
Plain glazed pots are short-lived.
Alena Besha
We also have Brown 20th all the time at work, although there is still a large and convenient Tefal Vitamin + (with iron round baskets and 6 portioned glass cups), but it was temporarily put into a box, because the kitchen in a rented apartment is tiny, nowhere to put. There was once a Severin steamer 100 years ago, but this cannot be compared with the next two in terms of quality and ease of use. I thought about Brown at one time - simple, unremarkable - why is he needed, such a modest fellow? How wrong I was! I cook cereals exclusively in a double boiler now, everyone really likes it, crumbly and airy porridges are obtained. And the insert for coloring products is a mega-thing! And the condensation trays - everything is so well thought out that she's a favorite. We have a blue handle, drawings are drawn, not pasted, but there were no dividers for the bowl.
brendabaker
Alena Besha,
Can you share the recipes for porridge?
I would like rice for a side dish, milk rice and millet porridge for Brown.

And I still have Khanum (classic recipe) from MalikaS

brendabaker, Oksanochka, good afternoon! Of course I will share, but I think that then you will choose the proportion of liquid to your liking, as you like. As I started to cook (what rice, what buckwheat) in a ratio of 1: 1.5, and I still cook (for 1 multi-glass of cereal 1.5 multi-glasses of water / broth). It also all depends on the quality of the cereals themselves - I look during the cooking, sometimes I have to add time so that the excess liquid evaporates, and sometimes, on the contrary, I add a little.Very tasty rice turns out, crumbly (y) Recently I liked to mix several types of rice - in arbitrary proportions, but more often equal - long-grain parboiled, brown unpolished, I can add a round one. It was only in this way that I got used to eating brown, in the company with the usual varieties it turns out deliciously. I never cooked millet (I'll fix it!), Wheat or artek - excellent. When I cooked milk rice, I diluted the milk with water 1: 1, I was afraid that the porridge would run away. But this is a reassurance, of course.

I forgot to add - I really like that you can reheat ready-made meals in a double boiler! We don't have a microscope, we are at work all the time, but I was calm for my daughter, knowing that it was in a double boiler that she would heat up food in portions for herself (they hadn’t learned to use gas yet). As for me - it is quite safe, if only not to get scalded by the steam.
And it is also delicious for me to separately make vegetable frying (onion + carrots) + if there is a bit of chicken fillet, add washed cereal (with wheat it is delicious) - and in PV.

Please, this dish is more detailed, if possible.
Alena Besha
Mirabel, Vika, why are you confusing me, really! : girl_red: The most unpretentious, simple, intuitive dish came out. It's just that if the porridge is unsweetened, then it comes out very well, if you don't add the frying separately to the ready-made porridge, but cook the cereal already with the ready-made one. In vegetable oil, sauté the onion until golden brown, add the carrots (I chop them in small strips on Berner in a quick way) in the MV or in a frying pan. If I want with a file, I fry a little meat first, then add vegetables. Then I add well-washed wheat groats or artek, depending on the number of eaters. For 2 multi-glasses of cereal - 3 glasses of water (or broth, as you like), for 3 multi-glasses - 4.5 water. That's all. As for me, it comes out very mentally, I like it.)))
Py. sy. - I forgot! Salt raw cereal to taste before cooking! Cooking time - from 25 to 35 minutes, see the consistency. It just seems to me that this is a very successful satisfying and inexpensive option (you can add more sweet pepper), the cereal is, as it were, saturated with a vegetable "spirit" during cooking, and is friends with vegetables.

Alena Besha,
THANKS, we have 3 Browns: my father's, mine and my daughter's.
My daughter cooks rice and I cook manty vegetables, dumplings, khanum, turkey, or steamed fish.
I need to improve, I will start to get used to rice.
Dad is making soup at the dacha.

Alena Besha,
The recipe is called
Khanum (classic recipe) by MalikaS,
Only I make the dough from 3 glasses of flour + 1 tsp. salt + 1 tbsp. l. vegetable oil + 1 glass of boiling water,
Part of the dough is brewed from this, then I stir it with a spoon, and as it cools a little, then by hand.
Covered with foil and left to cool completely.
This is how I prepare dough for manti and dumplings and dough for khanums.
Divide the dough into 4 parts.
Filling in each: 200 g potatoes, thin strips,
100 g onions, thin half rings,
Salt, red pepper, dill, 1st. l. vegetable oil.
From the dough, we tell a thin rectangle, 8-10cm wide and 60-70cm long.
Put the filling with a thin sausage in the center along the center.
We seal the edges over the filling in length, get a long sausage and roll it up with a snail.
Place on oiled steamer rack, cover and cook for 40 minutes.
Pour with oil or sauce.
You can also do it with meat-onion-potato filling,
Or take the filling from the manti with pumpkin.

Alena Besha,
About slow:
The larger it is in volume, the more phlegmatic.
Slower, with a volume of 1 liter, I had a boil so that they ran over the edge in BOTH modes.
Slow 6.5 never boiled, and even on HIGH never even once.
The optimal volume for me was 2.5 liters, where 1 mode was quietly boiling and the second just languished.
3.5 liters is also good when oval, takes up little space, but you can shove a chicken.
The mechanical slow warms up evenly around the entire circumference; for electronic ones, it heats up poorly where the control panel is, often there are raw potatoes, or something like that.
The Hobs calculation allows heating with an empty bowl, but Kenwood does not, only with water.
It seems that I wrote everything that I remembered.
I now use the Philips 3060 instead of the slow one because of its wonderful small size.

Oksana, to your health! Thus, you can cook buckwheat and other cereals. Only adjust the amount of water and the cooking time. If required, add light meat (chicken, turkey) in portions, it will have time to cook in an hour
But, the readiness of the cereal can always be checked in fact, remove the lid and take out a little with a spoon.

And try to cook the onion, I hope you like it
Alena Besha
Girls, I am very grateful to you all for such wonderful ideas, really! : rose: Thank you for sharing your experience. Before, when I was not yet Khlebopechkinskaya, I thought that steamed dishes were rare))) Apparently, I did not know how to cook them correctly * JOKINGLY * Because there was a sad experience with a misunderstanding that strived to be called a double boiler. And now everything is working out great. Experiment yuh as much as possible) And by trial and error I am looking for the option that suits not only me, but also my home. Thank you!

Good day to all!
I was looking for people with the same interests as mine - steamer lovers Braun FS20))) And then everywhere about her and is not mentioned already, everyone switched to multi, I'm alone like a dinosaur. And it was very pleasant to stumble upon this thread.
At the moment I have two steamers Brown. I bought one in 2009 for the birth of a child - to sterilize everything for children and cooking. I have it with blue pen, from blue drawings about cooking time (not a sticker), without spacers. Made in Germany.
I used it, but then I succumbed to the persuasion of a friend and bought a cartoon Phillips. In the heat of the moment I gave the steamer to my mother (there is an upper tier in the cartoon, but it is small, as I later realized - it is not suitable for anything other than cutlets). Then I realized that the cartoon was not mine, gave it to my dad, returned to the pots. Then the second child was born, and Brown decided to take back from her mother (she does not use). Mom ruined the lid (burned out in the sun, went into a network of small cracks and began to smell, apparently food began to fall into the cracks and did not wash out), and threw out one black tray. At first I wanted to buy a new steamer from another company, but I realized that I wanted nothing but Brown. And the new one costs like space - 7-8 thousand (and as I understood from this topic, they changed it, made different bowls - it's not that)
I decided to revive my own, began to look for spare parts on the Internet, found it on Avito, ordered two black pallets of 300 rubles each (there are no covers anywhere, even from official representatives). Already sent to me. I will use one pallet as a cover.
And fortunately, the day before yesterday I found an ad in my city for the sale of Brown in excellent condition for just a thousand. And I needed spare parts, but for a thousand and I won't give up all. Picked her up yesterday. It also turned out to be the original of an earlier version than mine, produced in Germany, but with a white timer handle and also with drawings on the case (not a sticker) in gray. And with cup dividers. I'm insanely happy.

Rice with cutlets is awesome, my husband eats with pleasure too (I taught him a long time ago to steamer food, he likes it). Yesterday I made a cupcake with cranberries in it in 40 minutes. We ate it quickly, we want more. Delicate, magnificent!

About containers: has anyone tried to insert Ikeev long containers? We don't have Ikea, just order from a private owner, I looked at the model on the website (Article number: 001.285.84) for 2 liters in volume. If it can be used in a microwave, then will it work in a double boiler?

The steamer is not an end in itself. You can steam cook in any dish, with any convenient tools
The main thing is what and how to cook so that the steamed food is tasty and healthy

For example, I cook like this I cook in a double boiler, I was convinced that useful can be tasty))

By itself! But you can, using an inconvenient model, experience frustration with the cooking process. If initially my first experience had been with an unsuccessful device, which would either be poorly washed, or something from it leaked onto the table (in some reviews of different steamers there are certain nuances), I would not appreciate the cooking. Since, in principle, I don’t like to cook at all, and any difficulty in the process completely discourages me from experimenting)) It's like with cartoons: the lids are not removable and you can't wash them off, you can't wash them, the aroma of soups will be eternal. I could not reconcile, although I bought two different models - expensive and cheap, not mine and that's it.

Today we have steamed gingerbread cookies. Half an hour of cooking.

1 cup of sugar,
1 egg,
2 cups of flour,
Oil 80 gr,
1 tea l. baking powder or soda,
1 tea l. ginger,
1 tea l. cinnamon,
3 tbsp. l. cocoa powder
Melt butter in a microwave, beat an egg with sugar and butter in a bowl, add cinnamon and ginger, gradually stir in flour. The dough should become like a children's modeling dough - plastic, not stick to your hands. If the flour is not enough, then stir a few more. spoons. Roll up the balls, put in a double boiler at a distance from each other, turn on for 30-40 minutes. The main thing is to prevent condensation from getting on the gingerbread when you open the lid. Remove immediately and let off steam. Sprinkle with sah. powder through a strainer. Or grease with glaze.

About containers: has anyone tried to insert Ikeev long containers?
We don't have Ikea either. I underlay the foil and fold the edges up, like a box turns out. The product juice does not drip onto the tray. I also bought disposable foil forms for testing, the smallest and without lids. Two forms are placed in the container at once, it is convenient, and you can use it more than once.

Olyok, foil and I put it. But I like to make soup in it and preferably more volume. The bowl that comes with the kit is the largest possible in terms of volume. But I don't like the ears in it, because of which there is nothing to close the container in the refrigerator (with a film and foil by itself, but I would like a lid). In the meantime, I bought containers Archimedes for microwave (in fix), in deep marina chicken and then I put it in a double boiler in them. In the lower ones I make omelets on both levels at once.
Here are chicken thighs under a "fur coat" of grated carrots, finely chopped onions in half rings, and grated cheese.
Then I take them out, cover them with a lid and put them in the refrigerator. It turns out that the same dishes are used. In it, the husband warms up and takes to work.
Steamer (discussion of models, tips and feedback)

Liquid is not water, but what came out of vegetables and chicken during cooking, a fatty broth.I feel sorry for him to lower it into the pan, we are not on a diet)) And just dry rice with this broth can be poured over when warmed up. Beautiful rice with turmeric turns out - yellowish, crumbly.

I decided to order a set of containers YEMKA from ikea - I hope they will fit. Until you try, you won't know.

pmv831, I like ikeev's containers, I bought it myself recently, in a large capacity (children are crazy about the name), I like it. I didn't think to put it in a double boiler, I'll try, thanks for the idea.
pmv831
Kestrel, Yemki with a height of 8 cm are suitable only for the upper basket (I already bought them), in the lower one, alas, because of the pallet above it, you cannot insert it. But Ikea also has Yemki with a height of 6 cm - I think they will fit under the lower level without any problems.

It can be food grade plastic, glass, ceramics, parchment paper, foil, food bags and so on ... all those utensils made of those materials that are used for cooking.

I use the dishes that are at home, at hand.

This is bad plastic .. Not food .. Throw it out .. I really have not heard that poastic melted from water of 100 degrees, well, of course, there is some malamin, well, I would definitely not use it in cooking.

For food, you need to select food grade plastic, in the departments for kitchen utensils.
And pay attention to what is written on the dishes themselves, what they are intended for, where to use them, at what temperature, and so on ...
There should be a sticker label on the dishes.

Fish, meat, vegetables can be cooked directly in the steamer bowl, on the wire shelf - and nothing is underlayment. Or you can make candy boats out of parchment or foil - a great solution. For example, I put vegetables in a large cabbage leaf, and there chicken breast
