So it is customary to fill a rum pot with light rum, that is, strong alcohol with a light bouquet, which then gives a note to the whole drink. I almost always buy dark rum for any need. If you pour it clean, besides the fact that it is stupidly very expensive, it also has a bright aroma and an obsessive taste that will interrupt the taste of fruit, prevail in the taste and crush the rest of the drink. Therefore, we take a neutral base - vodka. A drink of the same strength, but completely tasteless and odorless. This is the base that we reduce the "vigor" of the dark rum. It tastes better with rum. On one vodka it is also delicious, but there is a pure fruit and berry bouquet. Quite complex and multifaceted (usually there is a mixture of everything in a pot)), but purely fruity. Although it can also be complicated and decorated: spices, liqueurs, citruses (I will write in more detail below). And even rum will be useless, actually.

Rum has its own bright note and interestingness. You don't need a lot of it. On a pot of 1.5-2 liters pour 100 ml. On a large clay pot in 6 liters - a glass of rum (250 ml of dark rum).

I also complicate this whole story - I put a piece of lemon (this is acidity as a counterbalance to sweetness, and citrus note (the peel gives off essential oils), and a preservative, which is citric acid). I can add literally 50 ml of Cointreau to one of the pots - this is an orange note. Although you can just blur a piece of orange with the peel. This year I have for about a month the purest and perfect home-made moonshine (3L) infused with a large number of orange peels. It became yellow and very fragrant (a kind of homemade analogue of Cointreau)) - she poured berries, and then added rum. So don't limit your imagination. BUT!! And don't make a hell of a mess. Mix thoughtfully. Better in different pots - slightly different ingredients.Somewhere cinnamon sticks and rum, somewhere cardamom and citrus, or vice versa. I hope I have explained it more or less clearly)).

Either way, try to add strawberries and black currants to your pots. These two berries give the drink a unique aroma and charm.
