I often make this cake, my husband and son-in-law just squeak from it. But I am sweet, although I also love this cake. I tried to reduce sugar. But the reduced amount of sugar in the crust does not greatly affect the sweetness. I knock down the cream with boiled condensed milk, there is no sugar. In meringue, sugar cannot be greatly reduced, the peaks will be bad. But even in meringue I manage to give a little less sugar. But what I like best is that sugar sets off, it is at least one cake layer with cranberries, you can also layer both layers, if there are a lot of beaks .. I used to do just that, now I can't afford cranberries. Therefore, I do without her. I tried it with black currant, but not that. Once I threw frozen raspberries on one layer, better, but also not the same. I really like my cranberries. I have not tried everything else.

Pure cranberries, just scatter the berries on the meringue layer, on the cream. Do not forget that you spread the cream on the peaks so as not to damage, not to crush these peaks. Then just berries, do not need a lot, the sour taste of cranberries will still be felt. I can't even imagine with jam. Jam is sweet, why do you need extra sweetness?
