Cleaning semolina from bugs. Spontaneous way. Surprisingly very successful.

I bought semolina at the wholesaler. 5 kg bag. Opened - bugs, a little, but there.
In order not to spread bugs, I poured semolina into liter cans under plastic lids.

I did not put it in a dark place, it is possible that this is important. I thought I would use this semolina for food for my cats and dogs.

And today I take a can and see - on top of the edges, bugs have gathered along the glass. Maybe the bugs crawled out into the light and to the top, where is the air?

She opened the can, carefully, without shaking off the semolina. I also carefully selected the top layer of semolina with a spoon, in a separate bowl. Oddly enough, the remaining semolina is without bugs.

She poured semolina with bugs with water, for a test for "pancakes" for dogs, and Oh, a miracle! - all the bugs immediately surfaced, I drained the water, along with the bugs. There was a neat semolina left.

Bottom line: if necessary, the semolina can be cleaned of bugs, quickly and without hassle.

Irsha, an interesting way. And if you need it faster, you can sift it through a sieve.
Ilmirushka
Irishechka, I agree with your discovery, probably someday it will come in handy. But I still would not use such a refined semolina for food. All living organisms, even viruses and microbes invisible to us, secrete waste products, which undoubtedly harm us, and visible bugs “pee and poop” in all sorts of ways, eating tasty semolina and, possibly, their waste products are visible with a slight increase. But you write

for food for their cats and dogs.

Probably, they can cook, they do not have such delicate organisms - they still do not eat so much, they will process it.

through a sieve
This is the first thing that comes to mind. but the bugs pass through the sieve. Semolina is not flour, you cannot sow through the most frequent sieve.

Ilmirushka, and how is grain stored? The mice are visible and invisible there. And the same decoy lies in warehouses - also not without visible and invisible organisms.
I will add the peeled semolina to the dough, yesterday I started it on noodles, half and half with flour. Well, the dogs will get most of it

Our organisms are no worse than a dog's in terms of survivability and processing of such an oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooleryness that a washed-out semolina is

Heat treatment will probably somehow "nail down" foreign bodies and their excrement.

My grandmothers, so as not to get bugs in cereals / flour, put old clean iron keys there.

You can also store in a container with a head of garlic, the garlic smell is also not like bugs.
Gayane Atabekova
It is best to buy a VACS kit. Store cereals in jars under vacuum lids. The bugs won't start.
Anchic
Gayane, so the bugs won't start by themselves. This is what we buy contaminated cereals or flour. In my 20 years, only once, TTT, came across beans with bugs. And what saved me was that I immediately poured it into a jar with a screw cap. Initially, I didn't know that the beans were infected with bugs. And in the bank they climbed out. Well, they could not crawl - the container with the lid prevented. Then I just threw out these beans, they ate it very well.
Gayane Atabekova
Anchic, Anna it seems to me that without oxygen they will rest and will not reproduce.
annnushka27
And if I suspect bugs, and for prevention, I put a bag of cereals in the freezer overnight.
Anchic
Gayane, but they didn't have time to die. Were in some kind of dream. She opened the bank and they perked up. But that was long ago, I hardly remember the details.

I put a bag of cereals in the freezer for the night

in the last time all the cereals, especially those bought in a Russian store, rest overnight in the freezer, then go to the shelf.
Anchic
And in my opinion - a night in the freezer will not help. After all, they somehow hibernate in nature. And winter lasts more than one night.

minus 15-2o a night or more and survive?
Mandraik Ludmila
I also came across cereals with bugs, though not semolina, something was larger, I remember sifting everything, then I heated it in a pan and still gave it to the neighboring chickens, well, I couldn't eat that myself
Anchic
Vika, well, somehow all sorts of bugs survive in nature. And in winter the frost is even stronger, especially in Siberia. And not so deeply they crawl into all sorts of crevices for the winter.
Accomplishment
Girls, if in the middle of summer you stuff an insect that is calmly surviving the winter into the freezer, then it will freeze there. Because organisms prepare for wintering at all levels, including biochemical and molecular. And it takes them summer and autumn. So there are no options - the beetles will die in the freezer. Their eggs are a controversial issue, and they can survive. Then after a while the beetles may reappear. How long it takes depends on the type of insect.

Girls, you will forgive me, but what's the point of all this? I, for example, will definitely not eat contaminated cereals, it’s just disgusting, and it’s not worth that much money to worry, I threw it away and bought a new one .. or I don’t understand something

Nadyush, by the way, yes, we have now hung up two feeders so that our daughter can look at the birds, so they would have just such a cereal ..

we also feed the birds every winter, so that there is no problem, even if something ...

but what is the point of all this?
The point is in a quick way to clean the semolina. Knowledge is never superfluous.
Sometime the hostess can throw away the product, but sometimes not. Anything in life can be.

And what kind of "infection" we are talking about - semolina undergoes heat treatment, we do not eat it raw.
But when we buy already ready to the use of products - that we do not think about the "infection", immediately in the mouth.

Masha Ivanova
Lord! The second day about cockroaches already! Can we change the subject to a nicer one?
Ilmirushka
Elena, I'm talking about birds. Every morning my "chicken" flock arrives ... they gorge themselves, chirp, chirp on the balcony
Masha Ivanova
Ilmirushka, Ilmirushka, about the birds, that's very good! I hung my local pork fat. Now they arrive, and the cat is going crazy, he has stripped the whole window glass with claws.

Ilmirushka, he is Maine Coon. With claws, it will not seem a little.

I definitely won't eat infected cereals,
So when she, this cereal came from the store, how do you know if it is infected? hold and not use and allow the moth to fly and then throw out more ILT at once all the supplies.
a couple of times, moths began to fly around my kitchen and did a great job of expelling it and destroying many stocks. After holding the freshly bought bags in the freezer, things improved.
and recently I was cooking pilaf, opened a pack of rice in the process, just brought from a super and not at all budgetary and was stunned .. well, of course, the whole package immediately flew to the trash

V-tina
Vika, I'm not talking about aging in the freezer, I'm talking about cleansing deliberately infected cereals, when you already see bugs or moths for sure, well, I'm squeamish, if I know that there was something like that, I can't eat .. Once I bought oatmeal and put it in the closet, a week later, somewhere she began to cook, and there was something floating there, well, or someone, I really did not consider, squeaked to the whole house, my husband quickly threw everything away, and I, excuse me, hugged a white friend all day, because how I managed to taste this porridge during cooking
Mirabel

You mean that boiled bugs excrement are waste products, as opposed to raw, edible?
Rick
Larissa, such as hot, raw does not happen
Irgata
dopleta, Rick, girls, I do not force you to use my method of cleaning semolina. Anyway, to clean something.
Why such long discussions - pour out the semolina unfit for you, and that's it. Just to give a fuck? about what ? Ladies?

But this method may be useful to someone.

Sometime the hostess can throw away the product, but sometimes not. Anything in life can be.
I remembered a story from the early 90s ... the coupon system, empty counters ... my husband, who works in Kolomna, brought a couple of kilograms of rice (without coupons !!!), it never crossed my mind to check for the presence of animals, and never saw I had her before this incident Soon and I was lucky - I managed to buy a whole box of spaghetti - 10 kg! Summer time, gardening troubles were distracted and for some time the purchases remained in their native packaging. When I began to lay out the long straws of spaghetti in the jars, I saw a dark spot inside one of the pasta broke ... oh, the bug was looking at me with horror.Recovering from the initial shock, I began to look carefully at EVERY SPAGHETTINA in the light, break in dubious places and drive out uninvited aliens ten kilograms! Well, I couldn't afford, then, such a luxury as being sent to the trash ...
By the time the stripping procedure was finished, I myself looked like boiled pasta And the source of infection turned out to be rice brought by my husband in it, they just swarmed
Albina
Who knows how to get rid of these nasty bugs? They live in my closet. Therefore, all cereals are in 3-liter jars under a lid.
