I'm opening a new topic on kitchen scales. Indeed, in the bakery business, this is our first assistant. I propose to help those people who have not yet decided on the purchase of scales. After all, there are a lot of these devices on the technology market now. I ask you to share your impressions of your kitchen scales, leave reviews about them, justify your choice.

Here is a help information for those who are just choosing a scale

How to choose a kitchen scale?

Before proceeding with the choice of kitchen scales, you need to figure out why they are needed and how they can help the hostess in the kitchen. Do not think that only inexperienced cooks use kitchen scales - this is far from the case. Rather, on the contrary - the scales in the kitchen are needed by those housewives who often prepare new and complex dishes. Scales will become an irreplaceable assistant for people who love to cook in an interesting, varied and tasty way. Kitchen scales will help to maintain the accuracy of the recipe and always have a predictable result, especially when it comes to baked goods, sauces and complex dishes based on national cuisine recipes.
The kitchen scale market is quite diverse. These devices differ in the measuring method (electronic and mechanical), parameters of accuracy and maximum weighing limit, bowl shape, design.

1. Minimum step and maximum weighing limit

One of the most important characteristics of a kitchen scale is its maximum weight. In other words, how many kilograms these or those scales can weigh. In different models, this characteristic ranges from 2 to 5 kg. A kitchen scale with a maximum weight of 5 kg will be needed by those who often make preparations for the winter. For those who are not fond of workpieces, a scale with a maximum weighing limit of 3kg will be enough.
The smallest weighing limit or minimum step is also important. For greater measurement accuracy, it is better to choose a balance with the smallest graduation - ideally up to 1 g.

Examples of kitchen scales with a minimum step of 1g:
Kitchen scales Tefal 79889
Kitchen scales Polaris PKS 0311 Diet
Kitchen scales Bosch MKW 0120

2. Electronic or mechanical kitchen scales?

Kitchen scales can be mechanical or electronic. Mechanical scales work on the basis of a measuring spring. When the weight changes, the spring is displaced, which leads to a change in the position of the balance arrow. Such scales are much cheaper than electronic devices, have a larger weighing range, and are independent of power sources. But there are also disadvantages - mechanical scales have a large measurement error and do not have modern functions available to electronic devices: automatic memory, counting calories in foods, etc.
Electronic scales can operate on batteries, rechargeable batteries or using a regular electrical network. The advantages of electronic scales are that they, as a rule, have greater measurement accuracy than mechanical ones, are equipped with automatic memory functions, tare accounting and sequential weighing. However, compared to mechanical scales, electronic scales have a small weighing range.

3. Balance with a bowl or a flat platform?

Kitchen scales are available in two types: with a flat weighing platform and with a bowl. On a scale with a flat platform, you can weigh directly in the same dish in which you cook, which, you will agree, is quite convenient. In addition, on such scales it is convenient to weigh products that cannot fit comfortably in the bowl - fish, for example.
A scale with a bowl is very convenient for kneading dough - usually the shape of the container is well suited for this. If the scales have the function of zeroing the weight, kneading the dough in such scales becomes very convenient.Weigh one ingredient, zero the weight, add the next, zero again - and as a result, you can easily knead the dough right in the scales, according to a precisely verified recipe. It is best to choose a scale that does not have a bowl attached to a plateau - this will allow you to easily wash it and use your own dishes instead of a standard bowl. In addition, models are available that provide the ability to put the scales in a bowl for compact storage.

Examples of kitchen scales without bowl:
Kitchen scales Tefal 79898
Kitchen scale Binatone KS 7020
Kitchen scale Philips HR 2393

An example of a kitchen scale with a removable bowl:
Kitchen scales Tefal 79865

4. Scale design

An important factor that buyers always consider when choosing kitchen scales is their design. In the production of modern culinary scales, materials such as glass, high quality plastic, stainless steel, wood and their combinations are used. Devices with bowls of original shape, devices with wall mounting, scales of different colors and shades are produced. An interesting model of kitchen scales from Tefal - BC5030 - this device very organically combines a modern ultra-thin platform and a beautiful copper bowl. Such scales will very well fit into the interior of an ethnic-style kitchen. For a high-tech kitchen, the stylish Binatone KS 7030 scale with aluminum trim is perfect. With the help of a wall mount, they can be placed in the kitchen so that they do not interfere, but, on the contrary, become an important, central element of the interior.

5. Additional functions and capabilities

Modern kitchen scales not only weigh products, they are equipped with a variety of useful functions and capabilities:
Taring function (taking into account the weight of the container) allows you to get the weight without taking into account the dishes
The sequential weighing function (function 0) allows you to weigh products one by one without removing them from the bowl
Auto on / off function
Liquid volume measurement
Built-in kitchen timer
Automatic bowl weight reset
Selection of units of measurement (grams, kilograms, ounces, lb-ounces)
Memory function for summing food nutritional values
Overload indication
A dietary computer that provides information on the content of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, calories and cholesterol in foods.

I would like to add one, in my opinion, an important point - this is the "idle" time of the scales, after which they turn off.

The fact is that I add all the components at once to the bucket of the bread machine, which is on the scales. After adding the next component, I reset it to zero. I have a Vitek scale. Their downtime is only 2 minutes. This is very little for me. Several times I was "caught" by the fact that they "turned off" in the middle of the process. Distracted by something - I had that one bag of flour ran out and I took out another. I didn't notice - how much I added it from one package, and they turned off. And when you turn it on again, the weight of the food will either go with the bucket, or you need to set it to zero.
This is the first thing.

The second is when the weight of the product is changed by only a few grams. In Vitek, they do not react at all to + - 3 grams. You need to press the bucket and release - then they will show the exact weight.

So I would add one more vote - Do you want to change to another model?

I have TEFAL BC 4002. Electronic with a removable bowl. max weight - 4 kg.
I had no choice, since they were presented to me. But, I was lucky to choose the scales for my husband, because he gave them to me. I am completely his choice. I am happy with the scales, without them as without hands.

I have a Philips HR 2393 scale. Maximum weight 5 kg, step 1 g.
Automatic shutdown after 3 min. inaction. There is a tare function, a sequential weighing function. There is no bowl. I weigh everything in the dishes in which I will cook (to be honest, this is better for me, otherwise there would be an extra bowl lying around). There is overload indication, battery charge indication. They write that there is a memory backup: it remembers the last changed weight, there is no need to repeat the weighing. How it works, I still do not understand (I am dull, and I don’t want to figure it out). Weighs both in grams / kilograms and in ounces / lbs (for me it is lingering). Large bright display and large container platform.
I chose for a long time, I liked them very much for their appearance, although of course they are expensive and there is no handle for storing in an upright position (it could be hung on a wall on a hook). What's not to like? Batteries. Used Crohn 9v. Well, I do not like them, these Crones, it would be better to finger (but I’m probably already finding fault).
I use the scales regularly, I am very pleased with them. Previously, there were mechanical ones, I do not advise, these are not scales at all, but plus or minus infinity. Of course, you can do without scales, but it's like counting on a piece of paper, when a calculator was invented a long time ago.

I bought Tefal Oasis 3 BC-3001 - everything is like Dentist-the appearance of the scales themselves, I mean, only without a bowl and a maximum weight of 3 kg. There is a tare function, there is sequential weighing, shutdown after 3 minutes or manually, there is a loop for storing the scales vertically, there is a measurement of the volume of liquid. Batteries-3 A (little fingers) 2 pieces.

P / S / I noticed that the instructions for the scales are made in the form of a real chocolate biscuit recipe

I have a Bosch MKW 0120 - MAX 5 kg. step - 1 gr. - very comfortably; in the attached bowl, you can weigh other products without any problems (for example, chicken or a head of cabbage, and the same weight of the finished loaf).

I have TEFAL without bells and whistles. In total there is:
- a large oblong bowl 6-7 cm high.
- a convenient platform, you can weigh either directly on it or in other dishes,
- hanger for vertical suspension of scales,
- penlight batteries,
- maximum weight 5 kg,
- step 1 gram,
- weighing in grams and converting to volumetric units in ml.
- reset of indicators, when you need to add something else to the already measured weight.
In principle, this is quite enough.

Bulochka,
I have a scale: MARTA MT-1690
Of the advantages:
-max weight of products 5kg.
-button for emptying containers
- I don’t use various units of measurement (ounces ...), so I don’t know which ones
-price 700r

Minuses
- division price 2gr.
-buttons are not very sensitive.

I have a saturn 1230, the most basic electronic (about 16 bucks). division by 1 g, measures only in grams, there is a drop of the container. maximum weight - 3 kg.
convenient to store - the plate turns over and practically "envelops" the scales themselves, as a result takes up little space.
I wanted wall-mounted ones, but I didn't find them, but I had to bake ...
I do not regret it at all - this is quite enough. and still find wall
Gypsy
We sell the following wall:
Kitchen scales (reviews and discussion) - Yeshm ו WTB 803 and such

The former are cheaper. Maybe someone has already bought it? What is your opinion of them?

I have a Siemens electronic wall scale without a bowl. Very comfortable. Metal + plastic platform. Very happy. I use it constantly. I want to recommend to everyone exactly the wall scales, because it is practical, convenient and does not take up space in the kitchen, you don’t have to take it out and put it away in a drawer every time.

I have a Melissa wall scale. The platform is glass. Without a bowl. I use it when working with HP.
- weight up to 2 kg. (seems to be not enough, but for a bucket of HP + ingredients - enough)
- division 1 gr.
- taring (I use it constantly)
- clock (configured)
- timer (do not use)
- ounces (not claimed)
- automatic shutdown (the only negative, h / s 30 seconds after setting the weight, they switch to watch mode on their own)

I wanted to buy wall-mounted ones, but they advised them against, they said that they often break or warp the mount of the scales with the platform, and the weight is small up to 2-3 kg. Already weighed berries and sugar, and the bread maker is also a help.

It may be forbidden, but there is no strength to remain silent.
DO NOT BUY KENWOOD SCALES !!!
Already burned twice. The first showed the weight 2 times less. I went to the store to take it, because only a month had passed since the date of purchase. They persuaded to change them for the same ones (of course, it's hard to part with money!). So the new ones could not establish weight in any way, it kept growing and growing until the scales were turned off.
With a scandal, pointing a finger at the consumer protection law, she took the money. I bought Tefal. Ugh, ugh, ugh, while I'm happy.

to the question of anti-advertising: friends have wall scales. I really wanted to buy, but could not find (and someone gave them). in general, two or three months have passed since I saw them. recently we were visiting again - the scales somehow loosened ... the presentation was lost, I did not experience much pleasure, I don’t want wall scales anymore ... maybe the owners of wall scales will say a few words in their defense - which ones are worth buying (in the sense of a company -manufacturer)?
Gypsy
fugaska , and what company do your friends have scales?

I also dream of wall-mounted ones, but I want good ones .. not the Chinese ones that I showed above. And good ones, for example, these
Kitchen scales (reviews and discussion)
cost in Israel 700 shekels and give a guarantee 5 years... So, in Germany they are also sold for 30 euros
And on the Amazon they also sell pretty scales, they are with two scoreboards. The clock and scales are separate, that is, there is no problem of automatic switching, but they are not sent to Israel
fugaska
the problem is that I either did not see it, or it is not written on the outside ...
I'll be with them again - I will definitely look ...

I had a Tefal scale, which I basically bought not so long ago, in the spring. I chose them according to the principle: so that it is not expensive and the brand should inspire confidence. So what? They got me by the fact that they turn on for a long time, react slowly and do not always catch a small change in weight. I decided to buy something else. I saw a Polaris wall scale in the store. The model is not expensive, but the firm is questionable. I have long wanted wall-mounted ones, and this is the only model that has appeared in our stores. I bought it at my own peril and risk. It turned out that I shouldn't have worried. Very happy with them !!! Much more pleasant at work Tefal. They turn on quickly, react instantly, the price of division is from a minimum to a maximum of 1 g. The display is in standby mode, the clock is on, and there is also a timer, which is also sometimes not superfluous. So choose after that by manufacturer. The name says nothing.

Oh, how many weights have been revised .. People, what a multitude and variety of them are, the mind cannot comprehend! But they are all somewhere out there

The question is tormenting: how does the scale know how much fat calories there is in the product, etc. I want to buy Binatone KS7021 for kitchens, they measure it all, but, here, I think: how? Maybe someone has such functions, answer pliiiz
fugaska
do you need it? in the sense of counting calories?
As a technical person, I can say that this is not a scale that measures calories, but simply has a built-in calculator: several standard measurements (meat, fish, etc.), the number of calories is calculated depending on the weight of the product you are measuring. have not yet come up with such sensors that could accurately determine the number of calories practically by their appearance, and if they do, then initially it will be quite an expensive pleasure
why do you need to count calories? judging by their exercises on the simulators (they count how many calories have "run away") - all the same it is a bad job. eat more vegetables, less flour and fat, and most importantly, you need to move more! in our lazy age, it is simply necessary to fight hypodynamia! By the way, then you can eat bread at your own pleasure, though it's better without fanaticism!
I apologize in advance to those who think differently - I do not want to convince anyone

My husband gave me some kind of super-duper high-tech glass scales without a bowl, but I'm a talented girl - first I scratched and then slammed a bucket from a bread machine onto them with a predictable result. But without scales as without hands, so I went to IKEA and bought email there. scales - a simple metal circle and a display extends from below, step 1 gr., taring, memory, reset to 0, grams-ounces, battery indicator, weight up to 3 kg - now I put the bucket safely, and their advantage is the price of 640 rubles, if there is anything (and I can, I can) then it’s not a pity to throw them away and buy new ones

I will also leave a review about my scales, suddenly someone also wants. The scales met my expectations, just super! They hang on the wall and "tick" when I need to take off the disk-stand from them, put it on the table, load it, and look at the weight on the wall part. Plus, when they hang in the form of a clock, you can see not only the time, but also the temperature in the house.

How much did this miracle cost you? And where is it generally sold? It is very convenient that these parts are independent of each other.

I have a question - how often do you change the batteries in the scales. I have to change every 2-3 months. I do not use it every day, 3-4 times a week. Is it all for everyone, or is it just my scales that eat batteries at such a speed? To be honest, annoying.

The batteries in my scales have been working for half a year and so far there is no hint that they need to be changed. True, I also use it not very often, a couple of times a week.

Sold in England, they are not worth saying that it is expensive, but with the shipment and local tax came out a little expensive. The batteries in them are finger-type.

Yesterday in Auchan on Mozhaika (Moscow) I bought a scale EKS 5055 for 380 rubles!

Do not think of this as an advertisement, but maybe someone will need such a cheap, good scale. I tried to find them on the net
So, the EKS 5055 is presented in a square design (apart from the older model), weighing limit 5 kg, graduation price 1 g, automatic zero setting, zero setting and container selection, low battery charge indicator (9V, Krona battery).

The scales are a little buggy on a small mass of 1-2 g (I weighed coins for control), they automatically turn off after 2 minutes of inactivity. Show weight in g, kg, lbs and ounces.

Perhaps that's all.

Each of these 386 products is assigned a code. For example, 008 - sour cream, 069 - veal liver, 332 - kiwi, etc. I quote from the instructions: "You put the product to be weighed on the scales. Select the code corresponding to this product from the list of products and enter it with the appropriate buttons. one- and two-digit code, first dial one or two zeros. These zeros are not displayed. By pressing the buttons "Kcal", "kJ", "Chol", "BE", "Weizen", "Tropfen", "Ei" You set the amount of kilocalories, kilojoules, cholesterol, bread units, carbohydrates, fats, proteins contained in this product. After 5 seconds or after pressing the “Gewicht” button, the weight of this product will appear on the display again. All data obtained for the weighed product are summed up in the memory of the balance after entering the code,
corresponding to this product. You can also enter data into memory and get the total calorie intake of food, for example, per day or per week. In the memory of the scale, the products are added up until the sum of the individual nutritional values exceeds the maximum memory capacity of five digits (eg 99999 kJ). "
Super thing! The scales cost a little over $ 100. IMHO, they are worth it.

So you look soon and the calorie content of unknown products will be measured. How floor body fat is measured

They lack communication with the computer. To automatically transfer the recipe and back - load the recipe into yourself.

Uh-huh. Although I still have enough data on those almost 400 products entered into the memory by the manufacturer. Such scales are very convenient for ladies (and not only) who keep an eye on their figure.

I buy everything in my store, but I know a lot of good ones, where prices are not "biting". 255 models are not present now, they are very popular, unlike 254. But if you don’t find until they appear, I can immediately inform more detailed info, I can tell you in a personal, so that they don't think that I'm advertising
I can tell right away that the scales are expected in the coming days, the approximate price is $ 37 ... I just saw the price rise.

Thank you, it can be advertising, of course, but on the other hand - I also found this site through the link of another forum.
Valuable information where it is better to take scales or bread makers in large cities, probably there is no advertising in its pure form
But this is just my, humble, private opinion.

I ask you to share your impressions of your scales and justify your choice.

I have a scale that is not on the voting list called ETA Balance (manufactured by ETA a.S., CZHECH REPUBLIC).
When I bought them, the main criterion was the price.
BUT it turned out to be a VERY comfortable scale, there is everything you need, there is nothing superfluous.
So: power supply - 4 finger batteries,
they look flat, take up little space, there is a convenient handle, I just hang the scales on the hook for it, always at hand,
dumping of containers,
translation in ounces (this is generally not very relevant to me)
there is a vessel for weighing, but I pour it directly into the HP bucket, so I adapted the vessel for other purposes
auto shutdown after 2 minutes - enough for me,
maximum weight - 5 kg,
accuracy - 2 grams,
PRICE - 600 RUBLES !!! (bought 3 weeks ago via the Internet).

In general, those who are in the process of choosing - I HIGHLY recommend paying attention to these scales !!
Tanyusha
I am happy with Tefal scales, two finger batteries, a convenient bowl (I even weighed a live rabbit on them), weight loss of the bowl, up to 5 kg.
