Amish Onion Pie

Ingredients

Dough:
flour 300 g
butter 190 g
eggs 2 pcs
milk 120 ml
cornflakes 30 g
baking powder 1 tsp
sugar 2 h l
salt 1 tsp
Filling:
onion (large) 4 things
poppy 1-2 tbsp
butter 100 g
freshly ground black pepper 0.5 h l
salt taste
sauce taste
Fill:
eggs 2 pcs
sour cream 200 g
butter (melted) 50 g
Brown sugar 2 h l

Cooking method

  • 1. Peel the onion, cut into thin half rings. Melt butter in a frying pan, put onion and fry until golden brown. In another dry well-heated frying pan, fry the poppy seeds for a minute. Combine with onions, salt, pepper and cool.
  • 2. Prepare the dough. Finely grind the corn flakes (corn flour can be used), mix with wheat flour and add all other dry ingredients. Grind the well-chilled butter with the resulting mixture into fine crumbs (I used a blender). Add eggs, pour in milk and knead the dough.
  • 3. Spread the finished dough in a dish covered with baking paper. Spread the filling evenly on top.

Marinochka. And what is the size of the mold?
Twist
Vika, baked in a 25 x 15 cm mold. You can bake in a round with a diameter of 24-25 cm.

Marina, what a wonderful cake. I think it should be soft and juicy. An interesting combination of onion and poppy. Should the poppy be crispy or soft like a poppy roll?
Twist
Natashathanks for the praise! The poppy is not the same as in the rolls, but a little crispy. And the cake itself is tender, juicy, but not wet. My light "crunchy" in the filling really liked it.

Marina, as always you spoil with new tastes!
And for me this pie is just a pearl despite the prosaic bow
For a long time I have been collecting unsweetened recipes with poppy seeds and I have never baked onion pies at all, but it is simply impossible to pass by yours!

Amish Onion PieMarina, host with a report. Here is my pie came out. Fatty, such an infection. But delicious! : nyam: The only thing is that it came out sweetish for me….only because of onions, roofing sugar you need less. Thanks for the recipe.

Anya, a noble pie turned out !!! Just handsome! Glad I liked it!
That I agree a little (like many dishes related to Alsatian cuisine), but for some reason it turns out less tasty with less oil. And I didn't get it too sweet. Maybe the onion was like that and a little more spices were needed.
Thank you so much for the photo!
