Yes, if you chop the onion, add salt and leave it, it loses its sharpness, the salad is tastier.

I hope the author of the topic will not mind if I post my version of the salad here. It's just so simple that it doesn't make sense for a single recipe. I love tomato salad! I did it with onions, but for my taste it gave some harshness and you don't eat much. And then one day, instead of onions, I added garlic, and also purely accidentally poured it abundantly with olive oil. But it turned out so spicy, tasty and satisfying! I must say that for health reasons I cannot digest fatty foods, and besides, I was indifferent to olive oil, despite its beneficial properties. But here I was ready to eat this salad (juicy tomatoes, garlic + more olive oil) along with bread several times a day and even live on it. Very easy to digest! I tried to add other vegetables, but I immediately felt an excess of oil. Such is the chemistry!
