A very popular stew in Germany and adored by my husband.

Chili con carne

500 gr ground beef
2 large onions
3-4 cloves of garlic
2 table. tablespoons of vegetable oil
2 bell peppers (2 handfuls frozen)
paprika powder
1 tea spoon of cumin
1 tea spoon of cumin
1 tea a heaping spoon of alkalized cocoa (or 2 heaping teaspoons of regular)
1 large can of tomatoes in their own juice, skinless or tomato puree
1 jar canned corn
1 jar canned red beans
chili sauce, tabasco sauce, pepper to taste

Dice the onion, finely chop the garlic and simmer until soft in vegetable oil. Add minced meat and fry, stirring occasionally, until golden brown. Add cumin and cumin. Cut paprika into cubes or short noodles, put in a frying pan, stew.

Chili con carne

Add tomatoes or tomato puree, stew. Add corn and beans (drain the liquid, of course). If the stew is too thick, add some hot water). Pour in cocoa and bring the dish to the desired degree of hotness with chili sauce, Tabasco sauce or red hot pepper.

Chili con carne

It is better to cook this dish the day before. The gravy is absorbed and tastes delicious. Serve with boiled rice or simply with a fresh baguette.

Stеrn! And if not alkalized cocoa, can you replace it with a regular one? Or is it better to postpone cooking until better times?
Stern
lega, normal cocoa is fine. It just needs to be poured in twice as much.

Stеrn , please tell me, where does this recipe come from?
I ask because this is my favorite Mexican food (of those that I know). We had a chain of Mexican cafes in the city and I always ordered Chili con root there. But there it was cooked with whole pieces of beef and no corn.
Your version is very interesting, I will definitely try it. I was especially intrigued by cocoa, there is something in it ...

Stеrn , please tell me, where does this recipe come from?

Elenka69, but from nowhere and from everywhere! When my husband told me about this dish, I went through all the German culinary sites, and as a result I cooked the way I liked it. I can only say that con carne is not cooked without corn and with chili meat in Germany. A girl who lived in Mexico suggested adding cocoa to some culinary site.

So be it, I'll tell you another story about a Mexican chef.
Many, many years ago, my then-not-husband visited a Mexican restaurant where chili con carne was prepared especially deliciously. My husband, my boyfriend, is sociable and managed to "get" the cook so much that he revealed his secret to him. It turns out that the chef always added a little of yesterday's to the fresh dish, which he left for this purpose. So that's it!

And cocoa does not seem to be felt at all, but it does its job.

And if instead of tomatoes, tomato puree, then how much to hang in grams? Or by eye?

Thank you dear, but I already wanted to make tomato paste a sinful thing ... I still have to go for tomatoes ... I once cooked "Chili con root" for a long time, but according to a different recipe, with bitter chocolate, but it was so long ago, that my husband no longer even remembers "how it tastes" ...
Stern
Tiny, it is possible with dark chocolate instead of cocoa. Only my hand will not raise the chocolate in this way "translate" - I'd rather eat it!

I was in such a hurry to take a picture while no one sees and laughs that I almost forgot about the "highlight" of the dish - cocoa !!!
Indeed, it gives the dish an extraordinary and unique aroma and taste!
A mixture of Mexicano in a hot sauce just right for Chili (although not very hot in a can), added Mexicano ketchup. It turned out the very thing!
