Valkyr, thank you, I really, really love chestnuts, but I always cooked them, although I always wanted to find out how it is in Paris in the fall on the streets they sell fried (on the braziers) chestnuts ...
Valkyr
TATbRHA, Tatiana, mutually! I just love chestnuts! After all, you can just fry them in a frying pan - but this is for extreme lovers! You don't even need to make an incision, just put it in the pan, hold the lid tightly on top, put on a moderate heat, shake the pan from time to time, as a specific crackling starts, and the lid starts to jump out of your hands - you're done!
The easiest way to cook!
MariS
And I bought chestnuts, decided to look for a new recipe - and here we already have it! Thank you - I will try ...
Valkyr
MariS, Marina, them, chestnuts, is not yet so easy to buy. We bought ours in the region, but in Moscow there are no stores, only in the markets you need to look.
MariS
And I bought it next to the house in "Magnet" - just opened, so they spoil us with delicacies!
Valkyr
In Magnet ?? In ours it is definitely not, and I do not like him, this magnet. I'll go to food city today, I hope to buy there.

The easiest way to cook

The easiest way is in the microwave, and the lowest labor and energy costs.
TATbRHA
And do they shoot? ..

So new. It has already been described here many times, in different versions, however, it was not officially issued with a recipe, so Valkyr well done

Looking for a recipe on our forum # 532

I bake chestnuts in a special multi-roaster, even chestnut tongs are included with it.

And in Magnet, Chinese chestnuts are more often sold, they are tasteless, they even lack the taste of chestnuts.

And do they shoot? ..
Cut with a cross and don't shoot

process the chestnuts in a micron (6-8 minutes) along with a cup of water (for volume, so that the microwave does not order to live long). Chestnuts are almost perfectly cleaned in this way. In addition, they can be sorted by size and large add a minute or two, remove the smaller. It was just that boiled ones were allowed to be cleaned much more difficult and with greater
losses of the chestnut kernel itself.

I have another problem, I froze 10 kg, now only in cream, poorly baked

Valkyr, Maria, I like chestnuts .. baked, fried, I also like to eat with honey ... but that's just me
Piano
kristina1Taste like corn - with salt and butter in a bite (chunks)

Here I am dark, and even sitting in a tank ... Chestnuts for food for me it was something akin to overseas epics ... I have not seen it in stores, only on the street under my feet ... Collected for handicrafts with children. And that's how it is! Can you just pick up street food and fry it? The fact that urban chestnuts are not environmentally friendly is understandable. Are the chestnuts all the same or are they fodder in the city?

Urban is usually horse chestnut, inedible.
Edible can also grow in the city, but differs in appearance, spines on the shell, leaves, flowers, etc.

Lots of recipes with chestnut flour, pastries, Italian pie, bread, sweets ...
Someone knows how to make flour itself?
I hesitate, either dry and grind raw, or dry and grind baked.
dopleta
Piano, it is made from dried raw. But I bake from a ready-made, purchased bake

And it's better not to take risks and city people don't eat !! In the foothills of the Caucasus, the chestnut grows in our country, where it is harvested in autumn and transported around the region. These are not at all the same trees as in the city. And the trees themselves are too distant relatives, despite the fact that both are called chestnuts: the common horse chestnut belongs to the genus Horse chestnut (Aesculus) and the Hippocastanaceae family, and the edible (sowing, noble) - to the genus Chestnut of the Beech family (Fagaceae).
Valkyr
dopleta,
Valkyr well done
- aha!
PianoElena, I won't dare to do nirazu in the microwave! I'll cook the best with salt in a pressure cooker!
Zebra, Tatyana, who are lying underfoot in the yards are horses, bitter, inedible!
Today I bought Azerbaijani in food city, good ones, at a normal price. True, I had to look.
Bast1nda
I bought chestnuts in a magnet. Beautiful, large (from a penny and larger, maybe they are not large at all). I'll bake it today.
Valkyr, Maria, tell me, but they don't shoot in the oven if they are cut?
Just put it on a baking sheet and sprinkle it with water and that's it? And, I saw, also cut. Got it.
And another question. When they are ready - should they be cracked completely or not necessarily? How do I understand that they are ready in the oven or your time, in principle, leaves them no chance?)))) I only bought ready-made ones, already peeled in a bag. And then, bah, they brought the raw to our village to Magnit.

Did it, thanks a lot!
The chestnuts are tasty, sweetish. A mixture of baked potatoes with nuts, someone wrote, that's the same for me. Those that I previously tasted in the package, ready-made and peeled, are not tasty.
One but these were poorly cleaned. How do you clean them girls? I also brought salt and oil to them, very much in the subject, thanks for the opinion, I read it in the subject.
Valkyr
Bast1nda, Natalya, I clean the boiled ones with a knife. Baked - with handles, the shell comes off easily, and so does the skin.

But soaking non-Chinese chestnuts is highly desirable. Insects also love to feast on chestnuts.
And floating chestnuts without regret are best thrown away, along with the caterpillars.

It tastes like baked potatoes and roasted nuts at the same time.

Natasha, chestnuts are perfectly peeled only while they are hot. As soon as they cool down, they are poorly cleaned. Therefore, it is recommended to bake as much as you can eat right away.

I got to Magnit today - well, of course, these are not those chestnuts. These are huge, polished beauties, grown on Chinese farms and utterly fertilized. They cannot be compared with the true ones, they have neither that taste nor aroma.

- but these Magneto-Chinese chestnuts have a big advantage over the usual southern ones - the price! 145 rubles against 290-400 market. And there are no more advantages.

dopleta
This is yes. A couple of years ago, they were generally sold in huge nets for a penny. But I tried it and threw it away.
Valkyr
Likewise. oh, are they really Chinese? Not Egyptian? Although the taste will not change anyway ...
