I wonder how ... I mean the name - "Half Cock".
Lyudmila, but there is some kind of story - where did this name come from?
Marusya
Yeah, Len, I was also wondering what kind of "half cock" in which does not even smell like a rooster

The Cologne dish "Halve Hahn" means a crispy rye bun with Gouda cheese, hot mustard and onion slices. Onions and red peppers are sometimes served on a plate. Halve Hahn is also common not only in Cologne, but also in other cities on the Rhine. Everyone on the Rhine knows what lies under the name of a dish.
But still, where did this Rhine expression come from?
Legend says that once before the wedding in the pub, the owner ordered each of the guests half a cockerel. On the wedding day, it suddenly turned out that, unfortunately, the owner did not have enough money to pay for the treat. But the guests had already been invited, and when the confused owner no longer knew how to get out of the predicament, the resourceful owner of the pub considered that the available money was sufficient only for ordering rye buns with cheese. This event naturally gained a lot of fame in Cologne, and since then the Cologne dish "Halve Hahn" does not mean poultry at all. Naturally, Halve Hahn is ordered in Cologne with at least two glasses of good Cologne Kölsch beer.

Legend has it that this Cologne dish "Halve Hahn" became famous after one wedding. The owner of the pub invited guests and ordered half a cock for each guest. But then it turned out that there was not enough money, and the guests were invited! To somehow get out of this situation, the owner prepared something for which there was enough money, that is, for rye buns with cheese. This story has spread all over Cologne and since then the dish is called "Half-cock", although there is no bird in it. Something like that.
