Kalter Hund. Cold dog.

Ingredients

Coconut oil, preferably 250 g
Powdered sugar 250 g
Vanilla sugar 1 package
Cocoa powder 75 g
Fresh egg 2 pcs
Salt pinch
Butter cookies (by type 150-200 gr
Milk (optional) 5st. l.
for an adult option:
strong brewed coffee (or instant dry, then diluted) 2 tsp (2 tsp + a drop of boiling water)
rum 2 tsp

Cooking method

  • Kalter Hund is an uncomplicated dessert very popular in Germany, made with alternating layers of biscuits and chocolate glaze. We can say that this is an analogue of our sweet confectionery sausage. Other names for this dessert are Lukullus (lukull), Kalte Pracht (cold splendor), Kekstorte (cake-cake), Kalte Torte (cold cake), Kalte Schnauze (cold face), Schwarzer Peter (black Peter), Kalter Igel (cold hedgehog) , Wandsbeker Speck (baked bacon) or Kellerkuchen (basement cake).
  • The history of this "no-bake pie" begins at the beginning of the 20th century. The name Kalter Hund derives from one version first of all from the prey, which was piled into a cooling pit, reminiscent of a pie pan. A cold nose is called because the surface resembles a dog's wet nose. Cold hedgehog is called when the top is decorated with almonds. The name for the basement cake originated in the 1960s when the cake was left in the basement overnight to cool. Lucullus is probably a derivative of the Roman gourmet Lucius Licinius Lucullus.
  • Similar dishes exist in many countries. For example, in Italy a dish called Salame di cioccolato (chocolate salami), in Denmark it is called Kiksekage (Kekskuchen), in Norway Delfiakake (Delfiakuchen) after the name of coconut oil.

  • In recent years, recipes have increasingly used coconut oil in the same amount as butter. The advantage of coconut oil for the recipe is that the chocolate mass becomes thick very quickly with it, it is not necessary to add cookie crumbs to it to thicken, and you can refuse eggs.
  • Considering that it is not so easy to buy coconut oil from us (palm oil, Palmin in Germany) in packs, in addition, many people simply do not like it, we will do it as we used to cook it in Germany - in butter.
  • So, melt the butter. If you have coconut oil, melt half the pack, then remove from heat and melt the rest of the oil in it. Mix powdered sugar with cocoa and vanilla sugar (vanilla), add eggs, stir. Combine with melted butter and mix well, you can use a mixer. If we are not cooking for children, then you can add rum and coffee (previously diluted with water). The form for the future dessert must be lined with foil or parchment, if the form is silicone, then it can not be covered. Put a thin layer of glaze on the bottom, then cookies, icing, cookies with a shift in the "brickwork" pattern, and so on until it's all over. We put it in the refrigerator overnight for setting. Serve a cold dog cold)))

The dish is designed for

750 g

Time for preparing:

20 minutes

Cooking program:

stove, mixer

Note

The powdered sugar crunches a little, but I like it even better. You can make a frosting with milk: melt butter, icing sugar and milk, then add cocoa and eggs.

Inn, we don't have a Jubilee cookie here and we use this ... If you find an analogue, it will be very tasty. I made confectionery sausage with this ..

I just saw, sorry for missing the recipe! by type - any jubilee (with the additions of the EU, but it will affect the taste for the better) or even the most ordinary "strawberry", in Germany they use the EU Leibniz, as Galina already wrote. The jubilee was here. Innusik, if you cook, then do the full rate, the leftovers in the freezer ... I then dragged from there ... in general, of course, our sausage resembles, only we have much less cocoa in the composition

But in Austria I have never seen such a cake. most likely this is not the Bavarian version, maybe. we are neighbors with them and the cuisine is almost the same .. So this is somewhere in the center of Germany ... When I made chocolate sausage, local friends could not understand what it was .. A 9-year-old boy guessed it .. And the aunt-cooks are notable could not determine ...

How interesting! it looks like there is not land - that is a separate state

Quite right .. I don't know how many federal states are in Germany. In Austria there are 9 of them and everywhere has its own cuisine. So it is in Germany .. there are also significant differences in the cuisine ..

Vika, I hope the butter will settle down and it will be delicious

And we have how much EARTH-land in the country ... but there are no particular differences
Mirabel
Crochet, Innochka! Thanks for the tip!
Well, we also seem to have coconut oil that is not quite cheap, there is one online store in the Netherlands, like ah herba. There are very pleasant prices and discounts are often available. For 400 grams of this oil they paid 3 euros. We wanted to make an environmentally friendly toothpaste, got soooo g .. sorry .. fat and disgusting mass.
Then I decided to put a little in the cupcake, eventually threw it away.
Well. now I will try the "dog" and then I will get to Galyunin's recipes.

Vika, with coconut oil, be careful on the point:
"If you have coconut oil, you need to melt half the pack, then remove from the heat and melt the rest of the oil in it." there it is somehow connected with the temperature, it turns out very hot if you melt everything at once ...
