Thanks for the answer. I would like to try to cook vegetables for salads in a double boiler, so they say it is healthier. And if the beets are cut into pieces, does it strongly juice when cooking?

And if the beets are cut into pieces, does it strongly juice when cooking?

I put chicken meat or breast and chopped eggs on the lower tier.
I add a little meat on top.
On the second tier I put potatoes, carrots, beets, immediately cut into salad cubes (not small), add a little on top.
After cutting, the vegetables must be rinsed with cold water in order to wash off the starch, otherwise the potatoes will be slippery and stick together.

In the same way, you can cook vegetables from the freezer (different cabbage, peas, corn, mushrooms) and then make a dressing for them and pour it over the still hot vegetables so that they are soaked in delicious.

Read the topic first - there are many different recipes and tips here.

I steam a lot of fish, meat, omelet, vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. But I am afraid to cook vegetables for the vinaigrette, and most of all because of the beets, because I do not know how the final result will look (whether it will boil in a double boiler, and if all the juice does not flow out of it in pieces, will it become colorless and watery). We need to get up the courage and cook everything at least once by myself. I'm going to cook.

We need to get up the courage and cook everything at least once by myself. I'm going to cook.

I cut the beets into pieces 4x2-3x1 cm thick. Pre-peel and rinse. I put it on a pallet and sprinkle with salt.
I check the readiness with a fork.
Then I prepare the filling and immediately pour in the hot beets. And then eat immediately or later, as it turns out. Nothing flows out and is not painted.
The juice will not run out as it is steaming. The juice flows out when the vegetables float in the water in a saucepan.

And why should you be afraid of steamers - you need to do it in it, why did you buy it then?
Any thing and dishes will stain from vegetables.

There people cook meat rolls and soups in a double boiler and nothing - everyone is alive, including the double boiler.

Hello everybody ! For a couple of weeks now, I bought a bakery and found your forum, I am neither eating nor sleeping, but I just do that I study everything that you write about. Thanks to all of you, I already calmly use the bread maker (I have almost no instructions and there are few recipes), today I received a noodle cutter, again thanks to you. But now the problem has appeared again. I want to make manti, I need a double boiler. I realized that many have Brown and everyone is very happy. Today I went to the store, looked at different steamers and concluded that: I have a family of 4 people (two of them are male absorbers), therefore, it will not work out for the whole family at once, it is very narrow. And they do not prepare quickly. I saw Tefal made of stainless steel (there is the same one made of plastic), and so it has a much wider bottom of each tier. She would suit me very much. But it seemed to me that the reviews about Tefali are not very good Tell me how to be, maybe I was wrong?

If you have gas, maybe it makes sense to get a pan steamer?
And it will fit into such a lot more, if you take a large diameter

And when I lived on an electric stove, I bought Brown and was happy.
And now I have been on gas for the 5th year, and the electric cooker only eats electricity, so I look closely at the saucepans ...

The fact of the matter is that I have an electric stove and there are no problems with electricity. Anyway, I like to turn on, leave, forget, it sounded - come

My steamer Tefal vitamin plus has served faithfully for almost four years. In principle, it still works, I just switched to cooking in an airfryer. There is, however, one thing. The bottom of the lower basket has broken (and I know of another similar case with the same double boiler). It began to break gradually from the center. Therefore, I would recommend buying a double boiler with plastic baskets, but with a removable bottom (in all baskets, since in mine there is only a removable bottom in the second basket) or in general with stainless steel baskets - they will be more reliable. And she consumes electricity, of course, not a little, but she also cooks quite quickly, not to mention the benefits of food cooked in it.
As for the different sizes of the bottom of the baskets, this was done specifically in order to keep them more compact: the baskets are inserted one into one. But for me this was also a minus. Since the baskets could not be swapped when the lower basket was already cooked, but not yet in the upper one.

This is my second steamer, the first was completely incomprehensible, at work they gave it, if you compare them, then Tefal is certainly better, it steams better somehow. I like!

I like to buy such things forever and ever, so after looking at several steamers, I decided not to skimp (though I found the cheapest one) and ordered a stainless steel basket. In general, of course, a disgrace in our market. The same steamer costs 5600 rubles. and, what I found after long intrigues - 3500 rubles.

I got my steamer !!! And then I saw that even the operating instructions were not in it. Okay, I figured it out by typing, it seems not difficult. Then I found a table that indicated the product, its weight, cooking time. And about the method of cooking, for example, rice - not a word. Tell me where you can read the basics of cooking in an extra bowl? I cooked manti for a couple, it turned out wonderful And another question (there are no instructions) If the water in the tank has boiled away, it is important not to miss this moment, or will the double boiler turn off automatically?

I have TEFAL VC-1017 (simply invents) - stainless steel. Is it important for cooking rice, pasta, etc.? Probably the principle of cooking is the same, the only difference in time can be?

And another question (there are no instructions) If the water in the tank has boiled away, it is important not to miss this moment, or will the steamer automatically turn off?

My Tefal steamer shuts itself off when all the water in the tank evaporates. It is quite possible that you do the same. In my steamer I have the opportunity to add water during cooking, you do not. But this is very rarely needed

I cooked rice like this. A glass of rice (washed, of course) was poured into a container for rice and poured with 1.5 cups of boiling water (the instructions say 2 cups of boiling water). Salt, seasonings to taste. Put on for 30 minutes, then try for readiness. Often I added various frozen or fresh vegetables to rice - it turns out very tasty.
I cooked buckwheat in the same way: I filled a glass of buckwheat with 1.5 cups of boiling water. For 30 minutes in a double boiler, but more often - 20 minutes and leave in the turned off double boiler to gradually reach.
By the way, I used plastic microwave ovenware for cooking in the double boiler, not just the supplied rice bowl.
Good luck!

Very strange, I have 200 - rice + 350 - water + 10 minutes in my table. And I, not knowing what water to add, poured cold water and set it for 10 minutes. Of course nothing was prepared. I put it on for another 20 minutes and the rice was cooked. Then it really dawned on me that boiling water is needed. In general, I'll try according to your instructions

And mine like to eat jellied fish or chicken, which I cook in a double boiler. Tasty and healthy!!!
Tusik
I cook chicken breasts or fish in a double boiler, and I usually lay out carrots with them. Then I put it in pieces into a mold and fill it with broth with gelatin. Usually I take ready-made bags in the "Jellied from fish" or "Jellied from meat" stores. Or you can make a filling yourself, gelatin, broth, spices. It also happens to add to a chopped jellied egg, olives or lemon slices. My household fish do not like fish, but they eat aspic with pleasure. Today, by the way, for the first time I made a venigret in a double boiler (beets, carrots, potatoes). Many thanks to the forum users for the hint. I liked it very much !!!
Tusik
I cooked carrots from vegetables. She immediately cut it into flowers. I also put green peas made from frozen vegetables there. I put vegetables on the top floor, fish on the bottom two. To prevent vegetables from absorbing the taste of fish. And then I put everything on the molds: carrots, greens, peas, you can boiled egg cut into circles, thin lemon rings. I spread the fish pieces and fill them.

Hello, I really need help from the owners of the TEFAL Vitacuisine steamer. I was presented with a long-awaited steamer !!!! I'm happy !!

now my baby and I will eat right !!!

I have this question - or rather, even two.

1. Is it possible to salt and pepper directly in a double boiler or should it be done on a ready-made dish ???

2. The instructions say that you need to cover with a film - so as not to spoil the product. what kind of film - ordinary food? and is it really necessary ???
Tanyusha
I salt and pepper Toria right in a double boiler, the exception is fish, I salt it in advance, pepper it and sprinkle it with a little lemon and let it sit for a while. As for the film, the question is not clear to me, what should be covered with film? I don't have this in my instructions, I've been using the Braun steamer for 2 years already.
Toria
Well, as I understand it, you need to cover the ingredients

I quote: "cover the ingredients with sticky film, which is usually used for cooking in the microwave oven or freezing food, then the condensation will not spoil either delicate dishes or heated sauce."

so I'm interested - what kind of film is this ???
Tanyusha
I don’t cover Toria with anything and haven’t spoiled anything yet, but what kind of steamer you have.

Toria Congratulations on the excellent gift, the steamer itself is very good for me. We cook milk porridge for a child almost every day. Here in a glass form with a lid. I cover with a falga if I make a casserole, a biscuit. And so I do everything without covering. I made stuffed fish, also wrapped it in a falga. If you ask anything, we will share our experience.

Thank you very much !!! I hope that we will be friends with her)))

I would like to cook apples with cinnamon from the recipe book .. do I need to wrap them in something ???

and how is milk porridge in a double boiler different from porridge from a pot on the stove?
Toria
and another question - where do you include it? strong steam comes from it .. and every time it changes the water ???
Swetab
1. I probably would have wrapped the apples in a falga.
2. I make porridge so for 1 portion, in the form of one tbsp. spoon of any cereal, pour hot boiled milk, and for 30-45 minutes. depending on the cereal. Then pour into a saucepan, bring to a boil and eat. What is so pleasant about cooking so that you do not need to stand near it, interfere and be afraid that it will burn, well, the milk does not boil away, you do not need to top up. How much he poured, so much remains.
3. I change the water every time. On the very bottom panel, turn the timer and set for how long you need.
Ernimel
Toria, I have it on the kitchen table in relative proximity to the sink, so that it is not so far to carry the tray with condensate, add water and drain the anti-scale from the container itself when cleaning. I add water as needed (that is, you don't need to change or drain it every time).

Regarding the film - I never had anything like that in tefal 1001, sometimes I use foil for meat / cutlets, but I don't wrap it completely, but just put it on the bottom (well, I'm too lazy to clean it every time it's trite!) If you wrap it at all, then (according to my observations) the cooking time increases. because between the foil and the product you will still have air = thermal insulation from steam. Once I tried to make chicken hearts in the sleeve for baking - it was not steamed at all and was raw, I hammered it and now I do it either directly on the wire rack, or (more often) on a litter / tray made of foil.

For example, I would definitely not wrap apples - this is not an oven, I would just make them on a platter or in a container for rice (in fact, I did them that way sometimes, only I have such small baking dishes like crooks - in them just half the apple fit.).
Toria
here is my mini report:

today my friend came to me, who is arriving at the 7th month of m. We decided that healthy food from a double boiler is just what we need !!!!

as a result, three dishes were laid at once:
1.apples with cinnamon, sugar and a lump of butter. I put it on the lined foil and covered it with foil on top too. I was afraid that the smell would ruin other dishes.
2. frozen assorted vegetables. I put it just like that without salt, because they also fed my baby.
3. Place the chicken on the tray. I salted it before cooking.

set for 40 minutes.

in the end: the apples were not steamed - I then put them on for another 10 minutes without foil - and they turned out to be healthy in the end.
vegetables, it seemed to me, should have boiled .. I thought that 40 minutes for them is too much. but it turned out just right.
the chicken turned out to be cool and delicious.

what I liked was that all the dishes did not smell like each other. each retained its own flavor.

I didn’t like it - a creepy stob of steam coming from the steamer vveh. I am very worried about furniture and walls.

and yet - did not frighten the color in the water in the compartment where I poured it - after cooking it became brown-burgundy ... why ???
but in general, I'm happy. even more.
Ernimel
40 minutes is something really a lot ...

At most, I put meat pieces in different ways (for example, the same chicken hearts that I just respect very much) or put on "adult" size cutlets for 20-30 minutes. at all 10-15 minutes)

And frozen vegetables - no more than 10-15 minutes, for my taste the very thing, it does not fall apart, it is ready and at the same time the taste of vegetables itself is normally felt.Fresh vegetables - basically the same amount, if we are not talking about, for example, cabbage with chicken - there I just turn it on in several passes, and it turns out something about half an hour.

About apples in foil - I told you it’s not worth it. Well, the truth is, in a double boiler, the most important thing for normal heating is good contact with the steam. Well, or then wrap very, very tightly, so that heat transfer is not lost at all. In my experience, I never wrap anything completely.
And so they would be ready in the same 15 minutes (well, maybe 20 if very large and dense).

I can also share a secret - on my double boiler in 9 minutes, perfect soft-boiled eggs are obtained. Not liquid, not solid, just like we like for breakfast, and no shamanism over a saucepan!

About the color of the water - wasn't the condensate tray full? If so, then most likely, some of the condensate has drained back into the tank. It's not very scary if not regularly. If regularly, the heating element is contaminated.

About a column of steam ... but does it come out of the pot or something from the kettle?
Absolutely nothing to worry about, you just don't have to put it right next to the wall, if you're so afraid. My not very well pasted wallpaper was only going over the stove, and not over the double boiler. In general, everything hangs perfectly there, although I was just expecting "landslides" in that zone. And she puffs three times a day, or even more. Well, no need to stick your nose and hands into this steam, of course, and everything will be fine.

With the initiative of the steamer!
Toria
thanks for such a detailed answer ...

how do you cook in several stages? open and insert the tray during operation? turn it off while doing this ??
Ernimel
Very simple. I put, for example, cabbage and chicken separately in two trays for 15 minutes. Then I put them together in one tray for another 15 minutes, it is possible on foil with some additives such as sauce and / or seasonings. It is not necessary to immediately include it for the full term. In the process, you can invent and change something else, report, etc. In fact, there are a lot of things you can try, interfere, etc.

I love the steamer in general. Although it was taken purely for baby food in the beginning, but in the end they entered the taste. and a very adult is done too. I hardly use the stove anymore - either an oven or a double boiler. You can warm in it calmly too. Of course, in mikruh it is faster, but here I have nowhere to put mikruh, especially purely for warming up, because it is nothing else (IMHO) and is not really capable of. And to wait an extra 5 minutes is not difficult for me ...

The device itself, however, is not so-so - the simplest tefal 1001, but when it dies (and it’s already almost) I’ll definitely take a new one for replacement.

Girls, do you still get steam out? It's good that I took the usual one, I have a steam outlet regulator - I can put it to a minuscule or even close it altogether - and the fire is barely visible. And my 10-liter steam boiler is boiling inaudibly. What a blessing that I gave up the electric. I would be very upset.

In my opinion, the only real plus of nonelectra is that you can pour something other than water into it as a liquid. for example, tea or a decoction of some herbs, or in general, there is enough imagination for something. Although now there are models among the electros where you can add seasonings in a special place along the way. As for the fact that "steam out" ... I wonder, but you also glue the spout of the kettle so that it doesn't come out?
At the same time, my tefal boils inaudibly. Well, not louder than a saucepan, for sure, only the timer ticks quietly. So I don’t know what would have upset you so much in the electric version ... Plus, there is also an auto-off timer (although this benefit is on many new stoves and hobs).
