I'll tell you about the KitchenAid Artisan thick waffle maker (Belgian, Viennese).

This waffle maker is available in four colors: black, pearl metallic, cream and red. I have a red copy.

The waffle iron has very impressive dimensions when compared with other similar devices: height 26.4 cm, depth 41.4 cm, width 23.6 cm. Yes, one weight is worth it: together with the box - 10.4 kg, without packaging - 8.2 kg.

The design of the device is unusual, it differs from most waffle makers. On the fixed steel body there are movable baking dishes, also clad in steel. There are two forms. Placed one on top of the other. Access to each mold is achieved by flipping the molds horizontally. This design is intended to give the waffles a more uniform shape.
KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles) KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

Baking tins are deeper than usual - waffles are 3cm high. Each round shape is divided into 4 triangles. In total, you can simultaneously bake 2 large round (diameter 19cm, height 3cm) waffles or 8 small triangle wafers.

The molds are covered with ceramic. The manufacturer does not recommend spraying vegetable oil on the coating so that a film does not appear, which will then be difficult to wash off. According to the instructions, it is better to add a little more oil to the dough. However, the peculiarity of the ceramic coating is that it has a porous structure, therefore it should not be heated without food or without oil. If oil or dough is applied to a heated ceramic surface, the pores of the coating may be clogged. And it is these pores that provide the non-stickiness of this coating. Therefore, you should not spray vegetable (especially sunflower!) Oil on an already heated surface, but it is better to apply butter or olive oil to a still cold surface, and then heat it up. And do this only once at the very beginning before baking a batch of waffles. At the end of baking, when the molds have slightly cooled down, wipe them with a paper towel to collect all the remaining oil and carbon deposits (if any) on it.

There is a ledge and a recess on the body of the waffle iron in order to fix the forms when they are opened, so that they do not accidentally turn over when pouring the dough.

The control panel is located on the front surface of the case.It has an on / off button, a baking duration regulator - a timer - in 15-second increments, a start time button, a stop / reset button, a signal LED - when the LED is blinking, the waffle iron is warming up at this time when the waffle iron is out to the operating temperature, the LED stops blinking and stays on for the rest of the waffle iron operation time.

A thermometer is located on the upper part of the mold body. It shows the current heating zone. The highlighted area on the right is the operating temperature of the waffle iron. When the arrow reaches this area, the LED on the control panel stops blinking, a sound signal sounds - this is how the waffle iron notifies that it has reached operating temperature.
KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles) KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

When you turn it on for the first time, do not grease the mold cover. We just warm up the waffle iron for 2-3 minutes, so that the coating of the molds and heating elements are warmed up, and what accidentally got into production burns on them. When I turned on my copy for the first time, there was no haze that can happen when I first warmed it up. There was only a very faint, barely perceptible, burning smell. After heating, let the molds cool slightly and wipe them with a damp cloth. Then the waffle iron is ready for use.

Well, we will still study how the KitchenAid Artisan waffle iron will behave in operation. Overall, I can say that the device made a very good first impression!

Test one. Waffles with bacon.

KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

Recipe for link, and here I will talk about the details that are important from the point of view of testing the device.

We heat the waffle iron by pressing the power button. As soon as the waffle iron beeps, set the timer for 7 minutes. We put the dough in the molds (it is better to lay the full shape so that the waffle is evenly convex), first we put the dough in one mold, turn it over and put it in another.
KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

We turn on the countdown. Turn the shapes over again.

At the end of the countdown, the waffle iron will beep, the display will turn red and the countdown will begin. We stop the countdown.

We remove the waffles from the molds. Put the dough again and turn on the countdown.

I divided the whole dough into three large waffles. However, it was not enough for three waffles. It is better to knead a little more, if three, or a little less, if two.

The waffles are baked very softly and evenly. I didn’t turn out very even due to the fact that I didn’t put enough dough in the molds - we need more. The oven is convenient - you can reset the timer every time and start counting the time again when adding new wafers, there is a sound signal when the device warms up and the set time ends. The signal is not too loud - not nasty. The only thing - it is not very clear why he is so persistent at the end of the countdown - apparently, to urge to take out the waffles, so as not to forget about them.

Mannachka , and I will subscribe to Temka, I will observe ...
I really like this toy !!!
And you still succeed in everything so beautifully !!!

Mannochka, glad to see and hear you I love to watch your videos and I adore your soothing and enveloping voice
Congratulations on the super waffle iron))) It is immediately clear that the thing is very worthwhile, and after your demonstration of baking waffles, there is no other option but to buy this waffle iron (while I play with the Princess waffle iron).

The second test. Spicy carrot waffles.

KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

We turn on the waffle iron for heating. As soon as it beeps, set the timer for 5 minutes and you can put the dough into the molds. We turn on the countdown and wait for the ready-made waffles.

They are ruddy due to spices, prunes, sugar. If you want a paler look, then you can bake for a shorter time, for example, about four minutes.

I divided the whole dough into two waffles. This time they turned out smoother than the previous ones. These waffles are sweet, with spices, therefore they are much rounder than salty ones, but at the same time they are not burnt at all. Cooked evenly. In general, you need to adjust the amount of dough depending on its activity (rise) and the duration of baking depending on the ingredients. I will still try this waffle iron on other recipes. But for now, I keep my impressions of her - the dream waffle iron!

It's not clear how you can bake 2 or 8 waffles at the same time
Manna
evrika_ea, each large round waffle is four small triangular waffles.

The girls saw the unit live in the Williams Oliver store. Impressive thing. But cumbersome!
I wrote down Wishlist on the hundredth line. Expensive all the same.

But bulky
Yes, it is comparable in size to a three-liter multicooker. And heavy. It is better for her to allocate a place - otherwise it will be inconvenient to carry it regularly. Such an apparatus, it seems to me, is for those who regularly bake soft waffles. In principle, such plump waffles can replace a fairly wide range of baked goods, however, there will be only one form.

that is, crunchy waffles that melt in your mouth won't work?
Manna
Which ones are crispy? Thin? Of course not. This waffle maker is for thick waffles - Belgian, Viennese.

Third test. Waffles Barm Brack.

KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

These waffles are inspired by Barm Brack Irish muffins.

Recipe for link, and here I will talk about the details that are important from a testing point of view.

We turn on the waffle iron for heating. When she beeps, set the timer for 5 minutes. We put the dough into molds.

After 5 minutes, the waffles are ready. They are juicy, aromatic, sour and slightly tinged with candied orange and herbal infusions.

The peculiarity of these wafers is that frying may appear on the surface from cherries, candied fruits, but in general the waffles are baked evenly. The coating of the waffle iron was very easily cleaned of these deposits with a silicone brush, and after that I also wiped the molds with a damp cloth.

These waffles turned out to be the smoothest and most chubby of those that I baked in the KitchenAid Artisan waffle iron.
Manna
The fourth test. Cheese zucchini waffles.

KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

Recipe for link, and here I will talk about the details that are important from the point of view of testing the device.

We turn on the waffle iron for heating. As soon as it beeps, put the dough into the molds. The dough rises well during baking, it is better not to lay it much.
We bake for 7 minutes.

This time there was more than enough dough in the forms. It rose well when baking, but I didn't take that into account when I laid it. As a result, the waffle iron had to be washed. The coating of the forms was cleaned very easily and quickly, but the small cracks in the body at the abutments of the handles and around the circumference of the forms had to be cleaned with a skewer (but I cleaned everything without too much difficulty). So, it is better to lay a very active dough less than more.

Fifth test. Curd banana waffles.

We turn on the waffle iron for heating. When she beeps, set the timer for 5 minutes. We put the dough into molds. We turn on the countdown. The dough rises well, it is better to lay a little.

At the end of the countdown, the waffles are ready. These waffles are soft and juicy. While they are hot, they are very tender, therefore they should be removed from the molds carefully.

This time I also slightly overdid it with the volume of the dough, but although it was on the verge, it did not crawl beyond the boundaries of the forms. There was no need to wash the hull.

For some reason, these waffles on one side were more browned than on the other. Perhaps the reason is that I spread the dough a little longer and later closed the lid, because the wafer was already baking from the bottom, but had not started from the side of the lid yet?
Manna
The sixth test. Waffles Lebkuchen.

KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

Recipe for link, and here I will talk about the details that are important from a testing point of view.

We turn on the waffle iron for heating. When she beeps, set the timer for 4 minutes (I baked these waffles for 5 minutes. 4 is enough for them). We put the dough into molds. We turn on the countdown. At the end of the time, the gingerbread waffles are ready.
They turn out to be crumbly, so you need to remove them carefully.

The dough for these waffles is thick, so I spread it longer than usual. As a result, the bottom of the waffles turned out to be much blush than the top. In general, I conclude that you should try to level the dough faster for a more even blush on both sides of the waffles.

And I can also conclude that you can easily bake gingerbread dough in this waffle iron, just make it a little more plastic.
Manna
Seventh test. Tomato waffles with tofu and basil.

KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker (for soft waffles)

Recipe for link, here I will talk about the details that are important from a testing point of view.

I noticed that salty wafers are baked more evenly than sweet ones. This waffle iron is very good for snack bars, bread waffles. For sweet ones, you need to quickly level the dough so that it is baked more evenly, but for salty ones this rule does not work (except for cheese ones, although the cheese ones are baked quite evenly when compared with other devices).
Manna
Eighth trial. Fruit waffles without sugar and eggs.

The waffles are tender. We extract them carefully.

Again, I slowly spread out the dough, and again the waffles on the bottom are a little more ruddy than the top (although in comparison with other devices, this difference can be completely neglected). In general, unequivocally, for the uniformity of the blush of the top and bottom, the sweet dough must be quickly leveled, and, perhaps, even not even particularly leveled - it will press itself with the lid itself.

But, despite the slightly more ruddy bottom, the waffles turned out to be wonderful: crispy outside, soft inside, tender!
Manna
Once again I baked waffles with bacon, but with rye flour. It turned out wonderful!

Manna
Well, you can already do conclusions based on the results of testing the KitchenAid Artisan waffle maker.

I will repeat here the information that I have already told about the waffle iron in the first review, and I will supplement it with the details that were revealed during the tests.

This waffle maker is available in four colors: black, pearl metallic, cream and red. I have a red copy.

The waffle maker has a stylish look, like all KitchenAid products.

The device is packed inside the box in foam. The kit includes instructions, warranty book and the device itself.

The waffle maker has a very impressive dimensions, if you compare it with other similar devices: height 26.4 cm, depth 41.4 cm, width 23.6 cm. Yes, one weight is worth it: with the box - 10.4 kg, without packaging - 8.2 kg. Therefore, for such a device it is better allocate space on the countertop, you will hardly want to transfer it regularly. Hence the logical conclusion that this waffle maker for those who love waffles and often bake or want to bake them often - it's not just that it will show off on the tabletop and take up such a valuable place for many.

The design of the device is unusual, it differs from most waffle makers. On the fixed steel body there are movable baking dishes, also clad in steel. There are two forms. Placed one on top of the other. Access to each mold is achieved by flipping the molds horizontally... This design is intended to give the waffles a more uniform shape. And really waffles (unless, of course, the dough is too little or too much) in this waffle iron get smooth, beautiful... So, mobile forms perform their function, and in them baking waffles is more convenient than stationary.

Baking tins are deeper than usual - waffles are obtained with a height of 3cm... Each round shape is divided into 4 triangles. In total, you can simultaneously bake 2 large round waffles or 8 small triangle wafers. Due to the fact that the waffles are plump, the variety of baking options in this device increases - you can bake muffin dough, and gingerbread, and bread, and pancakes, and cookies, and waffles themselves, with fillings (even large cuts) and without them ...

Mold coating ceramic... The manufacturer does not recommend spraying vegetable oil on the coating so that a film does not appear, which will then be difficult to wash off. According to the instructions, it is better to add a little more oil to the dough. However, the peculiarity of the ceramic coating is that it has a porous structure, so it should not be heated without food or without oil. If oil or dough is applied to a heated ceramic surface, the pores of the coating may be clogged. And it is these pores that provide the non-stickiness of this coating. Therefore, you should not spray vegetable (especially sunflower!) Oil on an already heated surface, but it is better to apply butter or olive oil on a still cold surface, and then heat it up. And do this only once at the very beginning before baking a batch of waffles. At the end of baking, when the molds are slightly cool, wipe them with a paper towel to collect all the remaining oil and carbon deposits (if any) on it.

Mold coating has shown itself very well... I followed the technology that I described above. The coating was cleaned very easily, even after I overdid it with the dough, even after soot from berries and candied fruits ... everything was perfectly cleaned. The only thing that was more difficult to clean was the cracks in the body at the junctions, right there, after the dough began to creep out of the molds and fall into these cracks, I had to clean up with a skewer. But everything cleared up pretty quickly, but it’s better not to report the dough than to shift it.

There is a ledge and a recess on the body of the waffle iron in order to fix the molds when opening them so that they do not accidentally overturn when pouring the dough... This moment is important and convenient when using the device. The forms were well fixed, and there was no fear that they might turn over. So this body design is a very useful tool.

Control Panel located on the front surface of the case. It has an on / off button, a baking duration regulator - a timer - in 15-second increments, a start time button, a stop / reset button, a signal LED - when the LED is blinking, then the waffle iron is warming up at this time when the waffle iron is out to the operating temperature, the LED stops blinking and stays on for the rest of the waffle iron operation time. The control panel contains a display that shows the timer settings, a countdown when the timer is running, or a countdown when the timer ends. In the latter version, the display is highlighted in red, the rest of the time - in blue.

On the upper part of the mold body there is thermometer... is he shows the current heating zone... The highlighted area on the right is the operating temperature of the waffle iron. When the arrow reaches this area, the LED on the control panel stops blinking, a sound signal sounds - this is how the waffle iron notifies that it has reached the operating temperature.

During the tests, interesting points surfaced:
1. I have a couple of times accidentally pressed the on / off button instead of timing, and had to turn on the device again. So at the same time ... warming up began again ... it lasted the same time (approximately - did not detect) as usual. From which I conclude that the heating does not take place according to the temperature sensor, but according to the time (but this is just an assumption - I cannot check it). True, this time I somehow did not think of detecting. Just now I thought that perhaps it was possible to somehow turn off this heating and start counting the baking time. But then I didn't think to check it.
2. The minimum timer is 2.5 minutes, and the maximum is 5.5 minutes. The range is too small. For salty waffles with wet fillings, you need 6-7 minutes, which means you need to either restart the timer, or look at the countdown with a red display. But all these are, of course, little things. You can adapt to this.
3. Another thing that could be added to the device is temperature controller... Not necessarily directly on the gradation of degrees, but just two or three levels: weak-medium-strong. So it would be possible to bake waffles without sugar faster in high heat, and sweet ones - in low heat. Although ... it is for this device that such an adjustment is not so necessary, since even without it waffles were obtained with good browning without obvious deposits or toughness - the baking temperature was well balanced... And I had something to compare with, because a couple of times I baked the remnants of the dough in another device, where it got burnt on the outside and tough on the inside (that device was not intended for such baking). The only caveat is that if you fiddle with smoothing the sweet dough for a long time, then the bottom of the waffle already has time to start baking during this time, but the top is not yet, therefore, as a result, the bottom is somewhat rosy than the top. because it is better to level the sweet dough quickly, or not to level it, but simply close it with a lid so that it distributes itself under the pressure of the gravity of the lid (in this case, you need to adapt in advance with the amount of dough per tab, so that it does not have too much oil or too much).

In general, I can say that The KitchenAid Artisan waffle maker has made the most favorable impression, both externally and in use. The device is very worthy! This waffle maker is convenient to use, it bakes even beautiful waffles with an even blush and good baking of the waffle inside. In it you can bake a wide variety of wafers from different doughs with and without fillings. You can bake muffins, and pancakes, and gingerbread, and cookies, and pies ... unless the form is waffle. Therefore, this device can be installed on the countertop for a permanent "registration" and delight your loved ones with delicious and varied pastries, which are very easy and quick to cook even every day, using more and more new recipes or repeating your favorite ones. As I said at the very beginning, The KitchenAid Artisan Waffle Maker is a dream waffle maker!
