Pears in saffron syrup

Ingredients

hard pears 3 pcs
sugar 0.5 cups
saffron 0.5 tsp threads
lemon or orange zest taste
vanilla essence or vanillin taste
Star anise, allspice, cloves, cinnamon taste
water 0.5 liter

Cooking method

  • There is salvation from spring sadness - pears!
  • Pour water into a saucepan, add sugar, pepper, zest, saffron. Boil. Peel the pears, leave the tail. Depending on the size of the pears, they can be cut lengthwise into halves or left whole. Put pears in syrup and cook over medium heat, turning occasionally for 20-30 minutes. Do not overcook pears! Place pears on a platter. Add vanillin to the syrup and boil without a lid for 15-20 minutes. Pour the syrup over the pears.
  • Can be served hot or cold.

Note

If at the market your grandmother spits contemptuously through her lip at your attempt to buy she has saffron in a factory bag, and at the same time poking under your nose a saffron wrapped in "Soviet Sport" from 72nd year, take saffron from "Sport" without hesitation! Because turmeric awaits you in a factory container. In the best case.

I may be wrong, but grandmothers cannot have saffron. The crocus of this variety does not seem to grow in our latitudes, the most northern Mediterranean. And to buy spices in stores and pack them in a newspaper, 72 years old ... at 500-700 rubles per 1 gram ... our grandmothers will not have enough pensions

TechkabsichkaI don’t know where she got it, but it was really saffron. A very nice girl gave me a box of saffron exactly from India (her husband is a sailor, he brought me, but they didn't think of what to do with these stigmas). Duc looks one to one. And we can grandmother as a photo-correspondent in "Soviet Sport" worked and from somewhere from a business trip back in the distant 72nd year brought a wagon of saffron ?!

Thanks for the recipe! Soon the pears will ripen ... but where can I get saffron ?! Can you replace it with something? And then our grannies only sell dill))
sweetka
can be replaced with a cardobenedict bought from a dill granny, which is also called Imeretian saffron, false saffron or marigolds.
it costs a lot less, and the color gives a nice one.
Pears in saffron syrup
but asking for saffron! grannies do not know other names.
