Should you choose a laptop or a netbook? This issue is the subject of much controversy. But there is no definite answer to it: it all depends on your personal preferences. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of these devices in comparison with each other? This will be discussed further.
To begin with, you must clearly define which tasks will be performed on the purchased device. If you need a computer for solving simple tasks: surfing the Internet, reading mail, communicating via skype, working in standard office programs, etc. and you value portability and lightness, then a netbook is perfect for you.
If you plan to use various full-fledged programs where performance and the presence of a large screen are important, then in this case, the choice is obvious, since only a laptop can truly satisfy these needs.
Disadvantages of a netbook compared to a laptop:
1. The most obvious difference between netbooks and laptops is the screen size. So, netbooks usually have a screen with a diagonal of no more than 10-12 '', while the screen size of laptops is not less than 13.3 ''. The small size and low resolution of the netbook screen make working with large tables and graphs extremely inconvenient;
2. In netbooks, an optical drive is never found, although it is possible to connect an external one. In laptops, however, an optical drive is available in most cases;
3. Netbooks usually have a small hard drive (usually no more than 320 GB). In notebooks, the hard disk capacity often reaches 1 TB;
4. Netbooks, in comparison with laptops, have a very small amount of RAM: usually does not exceed 1-2 GB;
5. Another disadvantage of netbooks compared to laptops is the presence of a less powerful processor.
But all of the above points are not always exactly disadvantages. Due to these trimmed parameters, manufacturers were able to put forward other characteristics in the first place, thanks to which the netbook received a certain advantage over a laptop:
1. Small weight (about 1 kilogram);
2. The netbook can work much longer without recharging .. Usually, the battery life of a netbook is about 12 hours, while modern laptops can work without recharging for only 2-4 hours. Although it is extremely difficult to judge the battery life as it mainly depends on the model and battery capacity;
3. Lower cost;
4. It has a small size, which makes it more mobile than a laptop. It can easily fit even in a woman's purse or backpack.
Thus, a netbook is even more portable than a laptop. The differences between the two types of devices are that the netbook is lighter, smaller, cheaper and has a longer battery life.
Modern laptops have almost ceased to be portable computers due to their large size, therefore, choosing a travel companion, the choice is between a netbook and a small laptop. In the second case, of course, the performance will be better, but their cost, respectively, will be higher.
In any case, the netbook can be successfully used for various office tasks, for example, for reading and writing documents, surfing the Internet, viewing mail and low-resolution video files (various problems may arise when playing HD video files). Also, it is completely unsuitable for games.
