Lost in the Aegean: Kos

Greece is famous for its culture, tourism, friendly people, gentle sea, and of course it can offer an unforgettable vacation for travelers. In addition, Greece can offer a vacation on the islands, which has many differences compared to a vacation on the continental coast.

In the lists of travel agencies, the island of Kos is not the most popular place, but this makes it attractive for those who do not want to visit places hacked by tourists. The island of Kos is considered a paradise on earth. Have you thought about the beach, sea and sun? No, although this is abundant on the island. The fact is that the oldest tree in the world grows on the island. Where do you think such a tree can grow? Only in paradise, but everyone wants to spend their vacation in paradise!

The island of Kos is located four kilometers from Turkey (Bodrum). According to one of the legends, the ship of Hercules, after the treachery of Hera, was nailed to the shores of Kos by a terrible storm. The islanders, seeing the ship, threw stones at the uninvited guests, and Hercules completely destroyed the city and killed the local king. But the inhabitants of the island showed such impoliteness only once, they did not notice this anymore, and those who are currently spending their holidays on the island of Kos speak the most flattering words about the local population.

Temple of Asklepion

Not far from this temple is the city of Kos. You should definitely visit the temple, it was once an educational center and therefore has three levels of construction. On the first level there was an anatomical museum and a medical school, on the second there were thermal healing springs, and the third level was intended for the son of Apollo - Asclepius, his name is translated as “revealing”.

Asclepius was a healer, and he reached such heights in medicine that people could live forever. But Zeus did not like it, and he made Asclepius turn into a god. Previously, only the most worthy could reach the third level of the temple, but now any person can do it literally in a minute.

Hippocrates Museum

A very exciting excursion, during which you can see the busts and statues of the great healers who once lived in Greece and left their mark on the earth. There are books in the museum, but, of course, you won't be able to open and read them. The territory of the museum is buried in greenery and, together with the clean air, the atmosphere is so charged with vivacity and energy that leaving the museum you will feel calm and full of energy.

Wine factory

After visiting museums and temples, you can descend from Olympus and do more mundane affairs. For example, go to a wine factory located in the suburbs of the city of Kos. On the way to the factory, you will drive kilometers of vineyards lit by the bright sun, coupled with clean air and blue skies, this landscape will be intoxicating, so when you arrive at the factory gates you may already be slightly dizzy. But this does not mean at all that you will not be released from the factory with a lot of salt. During the excursion you will get acquainted with the stages of wine production, visit the workshop, go to the wine cellar, and then go to the tasting room.

The island of Kos will offer you a wide variety of exciting, interesting and educational excursions. You can visit national parks, take a walk along the amazingly beautiful seaside corners on a yacht, or go to the village of Zia. In this village you will learn more about the peculiarities of island handicrafts, you can visit old churches, go to a classic Greek tavern, wander through the coniferous forests that envelop Zia.

The island of Kos will appeal to those travelers who appreciate the proximity of the sea and the abundance of the sun, but are not ready to wallow on the sand for days on end next to a bunch of tourists. It will appeal to those who want to bring not only a new dress from the trip, but also new experiences and knowledge. Clean air and remoteness from the continent make the island an ideal place for families with children. Having breathed in the beneficial sea air and warmed up in the hot sun, children will become less sick. The island also offers all possible water sports, so no one will be bored there.
