Ingredients

Grapefruit juice 100 ml.
Vodka 50 ml.
Ice cubes 5 pieces.
Salt taste

Cooking method

  • We will need:
  • Form for ice, glass "highball" (Highball glass), a flat salt shaker with a diameter larger than the glass.
  • We moisten the edges of the glass with water or syrup and lower it into a salt shaker so that the intended border is covered with salt. Make sure the salt does not crumble. Carefully throw the ice cubes into the glass. Squeeze out the grapefruit juice into a wide container. Without touching the rim, pour the juice and vodka into the glass. Shake slightly.
  • The cocktail should be served immediately after shaking, thereby taking the form of a translucent golden liquid. The salt border should be visible, which gives the "salty dog" its status, and due to which the person drinking the drink will experience a concentrated salty taste. Cocktails of this kind are drunk slowly and in small sips so as to feel the fullness of its flavor range.
  • The volume of the glass should hold a cocktail with ice, and it is advisable to leave some part free so that the liquid does not touch the edges.
  • The proportion of juice and vodka can be changed as desired (usually towards a lower strength). For extra accuracy, you can use measuring containers.
  • You can decorate the cocktail with a slice of grapefruit or other citrus.
  • There is also a "Pepper Dog" for the thrill-seekers (same composition, but using black pepper instead of salt).
  • Additional acidity can be added to the drink with lemon juice.

  • As a variation on the theme, there is also a set of ingredients:
  • - 1 grapefruit wedge and kosher salt
  • - 1 inch piece of rosemary sprig, plus 1 sprig for garnish
  • - 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • - 2 ounces fresh red grapefruit
  • - 1 1/2 oz. Gin Hendrick
  • - ice
  • In this case, in a shaker, first combine rosemary sprigs with sugar. Add and beat the grapefruit juice, gin and ice. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a sprig of rosemary.
