Ingredients

Galette biscuits, crushed 1 glass
Almond (walnut) 50 g
Butter (for 1st layer) 125 g
Cocoa 5 tbsp. l.
Sugar (for 1st layer) 30 g
Egg 1 PC
Coconut flakes 150 g
Butter (for the 2nd layer) 115 g
Pudding mix (or 1 teaspoon vanillin) 15 g
Powdered sugar 2 glasses
Cream 15 ml
Black chocolate 100 g
Butter (for the 3rd layer) 30 g

Cooking method

  • Delicious three-layer dessert. The cooking process is quite simple, although it takes time. But the taste of Nanaimo's chilled pastry (named after a city in Canada) is undeniably worth it. Since this dessert is easy to freeze, it can be prepared in advance. Moreover, the cooler these cubes, the tastier.
  • Bottom layer: Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Stir in sugar and cocoa powder and then gradually pour in the beaten egg. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens (1-2 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, crumbled cookies, coconut and chopped nuts. Mix everything well. Spread the dough evenly on a greased baking sheet (glass dish). Refrigerate for an hour.
  • Middle layer: Beat the butter with the pudding mixture (or 1 teaspoon vanillin), icing sugar and cream. We spread the resulting mass on the first layer of dessert. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Upper layer: Melt the chocolate in a water bath. Add butter, mix well and spread the chocolate on the second layer.
  • Place the dessert in the refrigerator for 3 hours. After that we cut the dessert into portions.

Note

Nanaimo Pieces are considered to be one of the most beloved treats in Canada. The name comes from the beautiful Canadian city of Nanaimo. A housewife from this city prepared a recipe for chocolate squares for a competition in a magazine about 35 years ago. She named the recipe "Nanaimo Pieces" and when she won, her recipe gained popularity not only in her hometown, but throughout the country.

biscuit biscuits, something like a cracker?

I wrote it as in the original recipe, but sometimes I used cookies like "Yubileiny", "Maria" (Ukrainian cooks know these names). A friend made with chocolate chip cookies. Take what you like, just put less sugar or cocoa for example

It turned out very tasty. But I didn't quite understand why there is so much cocoa? Usually we put 25 grams. I put 50 grams. Isn't it a typo that 125 grams of cocoa is needed?
Helen-01
To be honest, I was also embarrassed by the amount of cocoa and I put half as much.
This recipe was given by Hector Ismael Jimenez Bravo - an international-class chef, a Canadian by the way (the recipe is Canadian) Can there be different cocoa?
For other recipes indicate 5 tbsp. l. I must probably change
echeva
can you change the cocoa composition in the main recipe? Otherwise, I usually choose a recipe from the bookmarks and cook without re-reading all the comments.
Helen-01
Already changed to 5 tbsp. l

MouseYulka, Yulia, cream is added to dilute butter with icing sugar (2nd layer). Can be replaced with milk. I am not adding anything to my cheaper version.
