Orange shortbread

Ingredients

Flour 150 g
Powdered sugar 60g
salt 1/3 tsp
butter 100 g
grated zest of 1 medium orange

Cooking method

  • Preheat the oven to 150-160 degrees.
  • Mix good quality softened butter with powdered sugar and salt, whisk lightly. A mixer is not needed here. Add the sifted flour, grated zest, and knead the crumbly, soft dough with your fingers.
  • Transfer the dough into a 20 cm split form, flatten the tamp, level the edges and divide the cake without cutting into 8 pieces. something like this:
  • Orange shortbread
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, if the cake starts to brown, cover with foil. Immediately after baking, cut into 8 pieces according to the markings. Allow to cool. Hot cakes are fragile, so cut them carefully.
  • Great with coffee.

Firstly, for baking shortbreads, it is better to take powdered sugar - it dissolves more easily in oil.

Secondly, it is better to roll out the cookie dough to a thickness of 6 ... 8 mm, otherwise the finished shortbreads become very thin.

Thirdly, in no case should the cookies be baked to a brownish state. My bottom of the cookie turned out to be brown, and it affected the taste. And of course, like any shortbread, these biscuits get stale pretty quickly - this is another reason not to overexpose them in the oven. Better to keep the shortbreads a little soft at the end of baking.
