If you are tired of the smell of exhaust fumes, rubbish on the roadside and greasy food, go to Sweden. Fans of a healthy lifestyle who are obsessed with ecology live here.
Sweden is a country that actively strives for a cleaner environment. Thanks to this, the local nature is devoid of the ugly marks "there was a man here." The Swedes do not scatter words about ecology - they act. For example, in several Swedish cities (for example, Gothenburg), the sale of water in plastic bottles is prohibited, and the Koster Islands have completely abandoned cars. Their picturesque landscapes can only be navigated by bicycles and small electric cars.
Ecotourism is very developed in Sweden, based on communication with untouched nature and the rational use of natural resources. However, in order to do a "green" vacation, you have to sacrifice comfort and give up some of the benefits of civilization.
Candlelight night
If you care about Mother Nature, you can stay at an eco-hotel. They are often built from natural materials, make minimal use of natural resources and have virtually no impact on the environment. In such hotels, electricity is obtained from solar panels or wind, dishes are washed with harmless detergents, and dirty water is purified. As a rule, there are eco-hotels in unique natural places, and the room rate is a decent amount.
Finding a “green” hotel is easy: over 250 Swedish hotels have been awarded the Nordic Ecolabeled Hotels label, which stands for strict environmental standards.

One of the most famous Swedish eco-hotels Kolarbyn (from 40 € per night) near Skorsien Lake consists of 12 huts in the forest. They have no electricity, the rooms are lit with oil lamps, and the toilet is a small house with a hole in the floor. Food is brought in regularly, but you will have to cook over a fire. To wash, you will need to melt a wood-fired sauna, having previously dragged water from a stream. Be sure to bring warm clothes with you, as it can get cold in the forest in the evenings. Among the entertainment is watching wild elk, deer, wolves and musk oxen.
Ecohotel Tingvall (from 50 € per night) near Bullaren is not so extreme in its amenities: you will live in comfortable rooms decorated with natural wood. The hotel uses electricity from solar panels and wind turbines, and has its own sewage treatment system. In addition, the hotel prepares dishes only from products grown in its own organic fields.

If you are not afraid of the cold, you can spend the night at the Icehotel (from 200 € per night) in the village of Jukkasjärvi, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Every year, water for its construction is taken from the river, and with the onset of heat, it runs back in streams. The furniture in the rooms is made of ice and the bed is covered with reindeer skins. The toilet is located in the adjacent building.
For a short return to childhood, you can stay at the Treehotel (from 510 € for two) in the northern forests of Sweden. It provides the opportunity to spend the night in a tree house. Designers approached the design of the economists in a non-standard way: there are houses in the form of a flying saucer, a huge bird's nest and a mirror cube.
In the Urnatur ecology in the south of the country (from 130 € for two) you can find houses not only in a tree, but also in the forest. You will have to live without electricity, with candles and oil lamps. During the day, you can walk in the wild and canoe on the lake.
From garden to table
In Sweden, not only hotels support the eco-concept. Many restaurants only use organic products from local farmers. Those, in turn, grow vegetables and fruits without the use of chemical additives, and the animals are fed only with natural feed.
Salt & Brygga Restaurant in Malmö promotes the philosophy of slow food - healthy eating. It serves organic food and a wide selection of organic wines and beers. The interior of the restaurant is made from non-allergic and recyclable materials, and candles are used only with stearin, an organic substitute for paraffin wax.
The Rosendals Tradgard in Stockholm is located right in the greenhouse. Dishes are prepared using seasonal, locally grown biodynamic products without the use of chemical fertilizers. For example, bread is baked from biodynamic wheat, while wines and beer are made from biodynamic grapes.
Stockholm restaurant Hermans offers a buffet of vegetarian, vegan and raw food dishes, organic tea, coffee, drink from kombucha and fresh lemonades. You can enjoy your meal in the garden with beautiful views of Stockholm.
Kosters Tradgardar Cafe on Koster Island serves produce from its own greenhouses and garden.
In addition to restaurants, the Swedish cruise company Gota Canal Steamship Cruises, whose ships ply the Geta Canal between Stockholm and Gothenburg, is also fighting for the environment. All meals served on board are made with only organic products.
If you buy food from supermarkets, look for the special KRAV badge. He reports that the product meets environmental standards.
