Tell me, what are the features of a caramel thermometer? How is it different from another ordinary one?
Admin

Sugar syrup (12 samples ready)

This thermometer has its own temperature scale.

Admin, Tanya, thanks, went to read the topic! I did not find it myself. And then my sugar fudge did not work

The other day I bought a very decent thermometer with a probe that can be left in the oven (while cooking). Stainless steel case, three options for attaching the block itself (loop; leg, magnet - the most convenient option). The cable to the probe is lined with metal, so it is very difficult to have a bite (pass). It is very convenient that when the set temperature is reached, the thermometer starts to emit a "beeping" signal that sounds for at least a minute, or until the set temperature changes. Powered by one "little finger" battery, measurements can be shown both in Celsius and Fahrenheit (range from 0 to 250 degrees Celsius), production - Germany (abbreviations PRC, or the words CHINA - I did not find) This pleasure is worth about 2 tons . R.

Mouse-Mouse, congratulations, good brand, in theory. PRC is China People Republic Chine, China - in our opinion. But now everything is being done in China.

Thank you, I am aware that PRC is China (I wrote for people who do not know and can "get caught" by the abbreviation "PRC" thinking that this is not China).

friends, does anyone have such a thermometer from an idea?

I went through the topic and I don't understand if he is good or not?
Can I leave it straight inside the oven or do I need to go out through the wire?
I would have for bread ...
I would like feedback from real users of the same
Katris
I bought two for myself and my sister. Both did not last very long and broke. One of them had no sound signal at once. Another failed after a couple of weeks. Although I measured the temperature of milk in a saucepan with them, I didn't even have time to go to the oven. Then I used it as a timer, but this did not last long either. Sorry for the money spent.

Thank you so much
but tell me, is it inside or is it outside through a wire?
the price is too attractive to try :-)
Katris
It is outside, and the probe is inside. There is a magnet on it, you can attach it to something metal.
Try it, maybe it's just me out of luck.

well, for 500r I don't expect miracles from him, maybe half a year will be enough - and that's good

I had enough of this on the wire ... for one time! I tried several of them.
Therefore, I use only a mechanical temperature probe, it works without problems for many years

it is not mercury, I hope? Can it be stuck directly into the product? DO NOT tell me at least a couple of links .. There are so many of them that I got confused which one to check the temperature inside, and what is the outside temperature of the oven itself
thank you in advance!

We open the first page, and read CAREFULLY, you will find answers to all questions in one first post Thermometers, oven temperature probes
Mams
Fleury80, the temperature probe is also like this:
Thermometers, oven temperature probes

I bought this one in Ikea. They are inexpensive there. It is called Fantastic.

The point is that you set the desired temperature on it and calmly wait until it is cooked, as soon as the required temperature is found, this device will beep. The probe is inserted into the meat / bread / sausage and is located inside the product, and the display is located outside the oven. The cord is thin enough to close the oven. Measures the temperature of the food being cooked. For example, for bread to be ready, you need 98 degrees inside the product, for sausages - 68-72, for meat and poultry 68-98 degrees.

There are temperature probes on the spoke, as Admin showed. The peculiarity is that you need to monitor the temperature yourself, that is, open the oven and see if it's ready or not. Some can be in the oven all the time, some not, you need to look at a specific thermometer. There are steel, plastic.

Oven thermometer - stands in the oven constantly, measures the temperature of the oven, and not the product that is cooked in it. It is often needed to measure the heating temperature when it is the ambient temperature that is important so that the product does not burn or dry out.

It looks like this:

thank you very much! Now it is clear! I will experiment the other day

I recommend purchasing such a temperature probe - measures both the oven temperature and the temperature of the food inside.

When working, measuring the temperature of the oven and food, the temperature probe is always inside the oven !!! with the oven door closed.

Thermometers, oven temperature probes

Left scale
Temperature inside the oven chamber - range from 50 to 300 * С
It shows 180 * C, which corresponds to the set oven temperature at the moment.

Right scale
Shows the actual core temperature Currently. Range from 30 to 100 * С
There is a red arrow on the scale, which I set at 80 * C for pork. And it can be seen that in fact the arrow has approached exactly this point-indicator - you can turn off the oven, the meat has reached 80 * C inside the product.

I have been using this temperature probe for a long time.
And no electronic ones are needed, of which I have a full-full box, and there are a lot of problems with them too

ABOUT! Mine is less cunning, but with the same picture, mechanical too, super. But where to get this?

Bah! The cost has grown!
I have a mark that I also bought on ozone, but it was a very long time ago, and the cost was clearly much less

But, the temperature probe is worth it
Gingi
I bought a thermometer for the oven yesterday, and I finally found out what the temperature is. It turned out to be 50 degrees lower than in the instructions for the oven.
In general, I liked the thermometer, hung it on the grate, as if it had always lived there. The only thing that annoys me is the black dial. I, with my not very good eyesight, do not see the values at all, you need to open the oven to see the temperature or light it with something.
Now I want a temperature probe with a white dial.

But, this is alarming. Control needs something else to check the oven. Too much difference, I can't even believe
Fleury80
I already ordered on ozone
ikeevsky yes, it turned out to be a complete garbage
Gingi
Admin, I have a Brandt stove without a thermometer. In the instructions for it, the temperature is indicated rather conditionally. I bought a special thermometer for the Gefu oven, I hope it shows the exact temperature. Can I check it somehow? My oven bakes in a rather original way: the bottom has already burned out, and the top is still damp. I can't imagine how this can be overcome.

Galya, I gave information about this in the first post of this topic:

HOW TO CALIBRATE A CULINARY THERMOMETER

Cooking thermometers should be calibrated (adjusted) at least once a week or whenever you drop it. Here's how it's done:

1. Fill a glass with crushed ice. Add cold water, mix thoroughly. Place the thermometer in there without touching the bottom or sides of the glass.

2. When the mercury stops moving (usually after thirty seconds), without removing the tip of the thermometer from the glass, tighten the adjusting nut so that the pointer is at the 0 * C mark.

The thermometer can also be calibrated with boiling water by setting the pointer to the boiling point of the water corresponding to your altitude.

Try so check
Gingi
Admin, I'll try to experiment tomorrow. For some reason I thought that the thermometer should be sold ready-to-use.
Fleury80
Admin, tell me, is there mercury inside or a safe composition?
Recently they beat a mercury thermometer at home, I don't want this anymore ...
Alex_Fil
Fleury80
Don't worry, these thermometers are not mercury, they are mechanical. As a rule, bimetallic.
Mercury thermometers belong to the class of liquid thermometers, they use the principle of volumetric expansion of a liquid (liquid mercury). A prerequisite for such a design is a capsule with mercury and a capillary connected to it, a thin glass tube with a scale located behind it.
If the thermometer is with an arrow, you can be sure that it is not mercury.

I also bought one at Ozone, in 2012, the price was half the current one. But then the dollar was worth 30 rubles. So, in dollar terms, the price has remained approximately the same.

This core temperature probe belongs to the category mechanical thermometers, therefore, by definition, they cannot contain mercury.

Thermometers are:
liquid;
mechanical;
electronic;
optical;
gas;
infrared.
Details about each category can be found in the internet

Admin, "measures both the temperature of the oven and the temperature of the food inside", I liked the thermometer, but very expensive, I immediately thought, whether it will be used often. For what it can still be used as soon as for baking large pieces of meat (chicken). It is not suitable for a small amount, for bread, then inserting it into raw dough will probably not hold. Nothing else comes to mind.
Admin
The temperature probe, a very useful and necessary thing in the kitchen and it is advisable to have it in the kitchen, can come in handy at any time, but a good and high-quality one cannot always be bought.

1.for roasting large pieces of meat in the oven, in a frying pan, in a saucepan
2. For frying small pieces of meat, because for safety reasons, the meat must be roasted to a certain temperature.

Thermometers, oven temperature probes

3.for boiling milk for cottage cheese, cheese (where T * 92 *)
4.for steaming fish meat, control of readiness (fish 60 * C) including in a bag (so as not to overcook meat and fish)
5. The probe is inserted into the dough-bread when the dough is already set and baked, becomes crusty and strong.
6.and even in a multicooker ...

These are just some examples ... To get tasty and high quality food, you need to control its preparation

Yes it is, But in the multicooker, moisture vapor will not get inside? And sous-vid not to do, the package will be full of holes. For milk ... - there are ordinary ham makers. I am more interested in cooking in the oven from a small amount (it will not hold on. It would be cheap, you can buy it, but now I think it is necessary, not necessary.
