Wild catMy daughter on NG gave me a marble one, I'm delighted! Its inner surface is not smooth, but ribbed - spices, the garlic grinds great!

Marble absorbs odors. I bought it first, then reread this topic and bought another ceramic one. I decided to use the marble one with dry herbs-spices. And so she stands for beauty
Svetlana 73
Lettera, I use the deep side when I grind the spices with garlic, and the shallow side only for herbs. Basically, we love the smell of garlic. If you need a lot of spices, then I have adapted a manual coffee grinder. They gave it to me, and as it turned out, this is a purely gift option - coffee grinds badly, but just right for seasonings

And I just bought such a mortar: ceramics, double-sided, inner diameter 9 and 5 cm. Pretty - I just can't.

Elena, I saw such in the household store. The series is called "Peacock on beige" double-sided mortar 9 cm with a pestle. It costs about 300-350 rubles. Their sea is on the joint venture! in every dishware purchase there is.
I think you have no problems with such dishes either.
I found a better picture

Elena, each city has its own website.

Thank you, I found it through a search engine. Now you need to create your own procurement theme, probably? Yes?

Elena, no. We have a cn site, they already have their own orgies. Nobody will entrust "aunts from the street" to open their purchases at once, there you first need to pass certification.
Here on your joint venture, look for dishware purchases from different sites.
Yesterday I was in the household store I saw such a mortar. The girl took the last one.
The saleswoman said that they are right for grabs.
I don't like her - I don't need to. IMHO.

If you buy everything that is ground, and what is not ground - you are content with ordinary mills - then you don't need it.
I read the whole topic, including a detailed review.
Please clarify - what is the beauty of grinding in a mortar, in contrast to grinding in a mill?

The recipe says: grind pepper (peas) in a mortar with salt.
Is it possible in the mill? In manual, for example.
Thank you

Iskatel-X,
When a very small amount of food needs to be ground. For example, a couple of peppercorns, one garlic, etc. Then the mill is clearly superfluous.
Iskatel-X
Elena
Rub the garlic too? Powder? He will start up the juice.
There is a crush.

I recently ground cardamom here ... I ground it better than a mill. The mill still gives me grains. And I practically ground it into powder. Probably, it was possible to push cardamom into the mill (then you need to have a separate empty one for such cases), on a constant basis in the mill I only have pepper and salt.

I would definitely not rub pepper and salt. Waste of time. I only exploit what makes real sense (that is, I had nothing else to rub with cardamom). Garlic, too, will not be in a mortar. There is a garlic press. Ideal for paste. Sometimes you need some kind of greens in paste, herbs, rosemary, etc. This is especially rosemary, by the way. Very fragrant, but only if you grind it, that is, release essential oils. Or gouge dill seeds in a mortar. Or I don't grind the coriander seeds, but I hammer the mackerel for salting (ground - not like almost all ground spices, it loses its aroma), etc.

I still can't understand ceramic mortars. What to rub in it? !! Pills? I'll even split her with pills. I have marble. To uh))).

Yes? And I go to the porcelain ones ... I didn't buy it only because I hadn't picked up the pestle under my arm yet. It is necessary to switch searches to a stone. There are pistils WOOH !!!

Tanyusha,
And where are you, Tanya, got such a wonderful mortar, and how much does it cost? I want this for a long time
Tanyusha
Lenok, bought on mamsi, costs 1865 rubles. firm Judge. I tracked her there for a long time and now I managed to buy it.

I agree that you can grind scanty amounts of spices in a mortar, because of which there is no point in driving a millstone mill - three fragrant peas will simply be lost there
And by smells: you can't rinse the millstone in the mill, the aromas of spices will mix, for example, I don't like that ...
And he wiped the mortar with a damp cloth or even washed and dried it - and again ...
And it feels like mashed spices are completely, completely different
I use a manual mill occasionally for pepper, but mainly for coriander - I use it a lot, grind it for a long time ...
But I used to buy a ceramic mortar with a specialist once I had another soviet, laboratory, small one ... but then they gave one large stone, and bought the second smaller one (a pestle with a "mushroom" - in the size of the mortar circle-deepening). And I decided to throw out the old ceramic, battered and unpresentable ...
And very quickly I realized how much I miss her! You have to chase a large stone for 10 peas ... And in general it seems to me that in the right ceramics everything is ground into dust easier and faster, and of course, if the volumes are small, I had to buy a new ceramic one (wait, I don’t remember - either in Ikea or in Uyutterra) - white, much prettier than the laboratory and a little more. And by weight it is easier to get it out of the cabinet, the stone ones are so heavy ... And yes, it is convenient to grind the tablets in it (I sometimes get powdered glucose this way)
Tanyusha, just about, I saw Y. Vysotskaya and I liked it so much, and when I bought it, it turned out that I could not grind anything on it, either I got this one, or the handles are not from there ... in general, only garlic is in it and crush-rub
Aunt Besya
And I don't have a coffee grinder at all (only in a coffee machine) or the mill is empty ..and how do I live ?? Separate mills for black pepper, colored pepper, sea salt ... and everything else, if necessary, is pounded in a marble mortar. I like that the fraction is visually controlled, there is no risk of admixture of the previous smell

Incidentally, I also see the difference, for myself anyway. Always, if possible, I knead it better in a mortar. Electric - strongly breaks, the process is uncontrollable.
And when with your hands, you feel when there is enough. And in general, it turns out somehow more tender (especially if there is still a marble mortar, at a fucking price)
I agree with the coffee comparison.
Katko

I got my first mortar, take me to your mortar gang

Inusya
A wonderful mortar. I have a pestle for the entire width of a mortar, sometimes it is inconvenient to knead, especially if something is very small. And this one is more versatile in work. Congratulations!

What's the point? I only use lavrushka mixed with something, and if one, then I just crush it with my hands. He's fragile, and so crumbles, without a mortar ...
Iskatel-X
Inna

I think that just "a couple of leaves" - apart from hands, is unlikely to be better than anything else. Washing attachments will take longer

Girls, I still do not understand ...... which mortar is more convenient with which pestle, so that the entire area of the bowl is occupied or thin ??? I thought more handy, but how really ?? I am facing a choice, I will definitely not take two. Thank you
Katko
Iskatel-X, I grinded in an ikeevskaya mill, in the one that is a glass jar, and the mechanism itself is screwed onto it. I broke the sheet into pieces and a little coarse salt ... such a jar is now always in my stock
This truth was in pre-access times
Inusya
Marina, if faced again with a choice, she would prefer with a narrower one. It is more versatile. When a pestle is full of a mortar, it is more difficult to crush a tiny portion, it slips. I even have a ceramic laboratory (for midgets) for these purposes, the diameter of the mortar is 4 cm, the pestle is the size of a pencil, only thicker. I crush them cardamom on Easter cakes. Healthy, it does not work.
So go for a medium size with a narrower pestle. IMHO.

She, no abrasive is needed there, good millstones in the mill, I just needed it that way then
And now I have a bay leaf with allspice living together, very convenient
