Ingredients

For 3.5 liters of water:
Dried apples/ pear 0.5-1 stack.
Frozen berries/ fresh 1 stack.
Dried leaves 1 stack.
Lemon with skin 1/4 pcs.
Candied jam
(or sugar) 2-4 st. l.
Dried apricots / prunes 5-6 pcs.
Dried rosehip 2-3 st. l.
Fresh fruits
(apples, pears, plums ...) from 1 pc.

Cooking method

  • Every summer I harvest many different types of dried herbs. Unfortunately, they were not always fully used before. It was very disappointing to throw it out in the spring!
  • And then I came up with, it seems to me, a successful way to use them. I add to compotes. And since I cook them often, the herbs are gradually consumed.
  • The compote turns out to be not only very tasty, but also healthy. Using new combinations each time, you can get a completely different taste of the drink.
  • I usually cook at least 10 ingredients. It turns out to be very aromatic. We drink such compotes often, it is not a shame to put them on the festive table.
  • In the summer, in the heat, we cook 7-8 liters at once. In winter, in more modest volumes - in a multicooker.
  • It is more convenient to cook in it. Because you put the components on the sound signal in two stages. (No need to stand and wait for the water to boil.) And the drink is infused faster than in a saucepan. The taste is more intense.
  • About the ingredients.
  • In the ingredients, I emphasized what I definitely use, the rest - according to the situation.
  • What kind leaves I use:
  • leaves of currant, cherry, raspberry, mountain ash, rosehip, gooseberry, blueberry, lingonberry, nettle.
  • Herbs: mint, oregano, lemon balm, chamomile, St. John's wort.
  • Fresh or frozen berries: raspberries, currants, black mountain ash, grapes, gooseberries, cranberries, lingonberries.
  • Stage 1.
  • 1. Pour water into the MV saucepan, add jam (if you plan to cook with it).
  • 2. Select a program "STEAM COOKING", time -1 minute.
  • 3. During the time that the water boils (20-25 minutes), prepare the components for the compote:
  • -Wash fresh berries, just take out frozen ones from the freezer.
  • -Rinse dried fruits.
  • -Cut fresh fruit into large slices.
  • -Pour herbs and leaves into a bowl and mix.
  • - Wash the lemon thoroughly, cut off the desired part.
  • Stage 2.
  • 1. After the end of the program, press the "Cancel" button.
  • 2. Add sugar and stir (if cooked with it).
  • 3. Put all the prepared components. Pour herbs and leaves last. Slightly crush.

  • 4. Cook again on the program STEAM BOILING, time - 3 minutes.

  • It is advisable not to leave on "PREHEAT" - the compote will infuse so well.
  • After 1-1.5 hours, you can drink a delicious drink. If rose hips were added, be sure to pour the compote through a strainer.

  • P.S. We drink the first portions of compote without diluting. Towards the end, the compote becomes much richer in taste, so we dilute it with water to taste.

I have a funny story about dried herbs ...

This happened a long time ago, when the borders between Russia and Belarus were not as conditional as they are now. Customs officers could easily walk around the train carriage and check what citizens were transporting across the border. (At that time, there were still many people traveling selling various goods. They had checkered bags with them - "trunks," as we called them.)

We also had such a bag, because at the end of the summer many different blanks and things were transported from the parents. And in such a "container" could fit a lot.
And we decided to load our bag with bags of dried herbs.I pack (almost tamp the bag, because it turns out to be huge). And mom is packing jars of preserves at this time and is obviously thinking about something of her own.
In such a situation, this dialogue took place:
- Mom, can you imagine if people at the border are interested in this "small bag"?
- What are you worried about? You will say that there is nothing forbidden, just grass, ”Mom almost blurted out.
- Yeah. Weed ... a whole bag ...
Only then did my mother begin to understand that she had said something wrong. We laughed for a long, long time. Until hysterics.

Since then, when packing herbs, we always remember this story about "weed" ...

Thanks for the recipe, I'll take a note. I also add twigs or leaves of dried mint to compotes with fresh or dried fruits (I dispose of the leftovers), however, I add sugar only at the end of cooking and let the compote boil for a couple of minutes.

I most often cook compote on old jam (so that it doesn't last for decades). Therefore, I need to boil it longer.
Although, this compote is tasty even without sugar / jam.

I cook the compote every other day in a slow cooker, they forgot about the juices from the store. I cook from my own freeze - black and red currants. But the reserves are not endless, and dried a lot of herbs and leaves. This is where your recipe comes in handy. Yes, even with rose hips, delicious and healthy. In the multo, the compote is wonderful, it has never been so saturated in the usual way on gas in a saucepan.

The difference between compote cooked in a saucepan and in a multicooker, highly palpable. Therefore, I also prefer a multicooker.
I also use frozen berries only my own. (5 sections are prepared in the freezer! We cook a little jam now, we freeze most of the berries.)
