So you have decided to make your long-awaited journey! You decided to go to it not by plane, not by rail, but together with your “iron friend”. Of course, you have already driven it many kilometers in the city, your car has served you faithfully for a long time. But are you sure that somewhere on the highway, where there is no cellular communication and car service, a breakdown will not happen to it? To avoid such a situation, it is necessary to competently prepare the car for a long move. Let's discuss the main points to which you should pay attention.
First of all, check the most basic things: whether your car's lighting devices (headlights, turn signals, emergency alarms) are in good working order, just in case, stock up on spare bulbs. The prospect of being left in the dark without light cannot rejoice. Check the integrity of the mirrors, the completeness of the first aid kit, the presence of a warning triangle, a tow rope, a fire extinguisher, and the presence and integrity of the spare wheel.
Check the level of all major consumables: engine oil level, transmission oil level, oil filter, brake fluid level, brake pads, spark plugs, coolant. Replace them if necessary. If the trip is going to be a long one, it will not be superfluous to take with you a small supply of consumables, everything can come in handy on the track! Be especially vigilant about checking the performance of the brake system. Indeed, in case of its failure, an accident will be guaranteed to you!
Pay particular attention to the condition of the rubber on your wheels. Be sure to check the tire pressure, if necessary, pump up, using a compressor, which you need to take with you on the road. The car's handling and fuel consumption depend on the quality of the rubber. Speaking of gasoline - do not be too lazy to take at least a 10 liter supply with you, which will never be superfluous!
Don't forget about your car's battery. It is necessary to charge the battery, clean the terminals, check the density of the electrolyte. Take a bottle of distilled water with you to top up the battery if necessary. This is especially true in hot summers, when water evaporates quickly, changing the density of the electrolyte.
There is no need to be lazy and stretch all the bolts and nuts that loosen during prolonged use.
On the road, take your maps with you, or better a GPS navigator. So you will never get lost in the endless Russian expanses.
If possible, it is best to contact a service center before the trip and carry out a complete diagnosis of your car. If serious malfunctions are identified, it is better to postpone a long trip until they are completely eliminated, remember about your safety.
For the comfort of your trip, pack your things competently, free up space in the cabin as much as possible. Be sure to sleep well before the long journey. It is best to leave at dawn, because when driving in the daytime, the fatigue of your body will be much less. The most dangerous time for driving is evening twilight. Be especially vigilant during this period. Try to rest at night. It is best to stop near traffic police posts or at special parking lots.
And of course, you shouldn't neglect the traffic rules and speed limits. Your life and health are the main values of any trip! Following these simple rules, which we talked about in this article, you will reach your destination comfortably and calmly.
Be attentive and good luck on the road!
