The geographic attractions of the charming Czech town of Liberec are the fast river Nisa and two mountain ranges. But the secret of the attractiveness of this place lies not only in this amazing mix of natural beauties - Liberec has concentrated on its territory a huge number of ancient monuments, and in addition, it offers holidaymakers excellent opportunities for active recreation.
And the luxurious landscapes of the city's surroundings delight with a myriad of paradises, ideal for relaxing walks.
Liberec, rightfully bearing the status of a Czech pearl, was founded in the thirteenth century, and the first mention of it in the chronicles appeared in 1348. At the end of the 16th century, a textile manufactory was founded in a dynamically developing city, the fame of which soon spread throughout the world. At that time, Liberec rivaled Prague in importance, but the Thirty Years War prevented its further prosperity.
In the nineteenth century, revived from oblivion, Liberec again reached the peak of its glory, and by the middle of the next century it received the status of one of the most important industrial centers of the country.
An interesting turn in its history is that, according to the Munich Agreement, Liberec became part of Germany, becoming the center of the Sudetenland - the basis of this decision was the predominance of the German population on the territory of this town. Nevertheless, at the end of the war, in 1945, ethnic Germans were forced to leave this fertile land, and Liberec again became part of Czechoslovakia.
Describing the sights of Lyubertsy can be infinitely long, since their number is very large. Nevertheless, it is worth starting with the main symbols of the city - the Town Hall and the TV tower.
Located on Mount Jested (1012 m in relation to sea level), the TV tower not only fulfills its main mission, but also serves as an observation platform. In addition, a hotel and a restaurant are sheltered in its depths. Tourists are brought to the tower by cable cars. Built in a tent style, the TV tower rightfully bears the status of one of the most attractive structures of this kind.
The 65-meter building of the Liberec Town Hall attracts attention with its neo-Renaissance, characteristic of the Flemish style, appearance. Beautifully illuminated in the evenings, the towers are an amazing sight, and the Golden Knight adorning one of them is visible from all over the city. The town hall is open for visiting only as part of an organized tour - at certain times from April to September.
Liberec churches and cathedrals are also of great interest to many travelers. Among them it is worth noting the most valuable Baroque building - the Church of the Holy Crucifixion.
One cannot ignore the Luna Park, the largest in the Czech Republic - the elements of its complex are swimming pools, a casino and a fair.
The main area for lovers of skiing is on Mount Ještěd, the slopes of which, due to their orientation to the north, keep snow longer than the spurs of Jizera. Since most of the slopes do not differ in sufficient width, it is not recommended for beginner skiers to ski there.
But nevertheless, a special place is allocated for the representatives of the younger generation in the lower part of the slopes. Three ski jumps, hiking trails, downhill trails and a 40-kilometer cross-country trail allow winter lovers to diversify their pastime.
