Note

Usually I don't cook such onions in the fall. I do it in the spring, when the onion stocks in the cellar begin to sprout catastrophically. In the photo there is also a spring onion. I keep it in a linen bag. I hang the bag. The onion is white at first, but eventually takes on a beautiful caramel shade. I think it is oxidizing. But the aroma of this onion fills the entire room where it is located. He's incredible!
I am not preparing onion powder for future use. I make it when I need it from dried onions. Onion powder is used in marinades, sauces and baked goods.
If you have sprouted onions or onions that cannot be stored, then prepare such a blank. She will not lie idle. Recommend!

Silyavka
I confirm this is delicious. I have nowhere to store onions, so last fall I dried a whole bag of onions and ground them into powder. I dried it immediately until it caramel color.
Venera007
Can you tell us more about where dry onions or onion powder are used? Grinding is not a problem if needed.

Tatyana, Angela indicated in the recipe, I made such a powder because my husband does not eat onions in my soup, so I added it instead of the sautéed one. Also, when marinating meat and fish, stew something, but wherever there is an ordinary onion.

I did one year in the fall in the village, dried on gas convectors, so that el. save energy
the onion spirit at first broke through to tears, but the result exceeded all my expectations
in the apartment hardly repeated because of the smell

in addition to using Angela, I can add from myself: I will anoint the bread with butter, and a dry onion was poured on top, fried eggs, sprinkled with an onion on the plate
in short, I liked to use in those dishes where he did not have time to get wet
Thank you very much, Angela

Last year I dried at home, now I'm drying outside in the garden. I would not say that the smell is really very strong, I opened the windows and the door. A neighbor then asked why it smelled so delicious in me.

just, I suffer from "gigantism", I made 4 pallets (2 in the kitchen, 2 in the room), yes, there was a strong smell at the initial stage, and at the end - a divine aroma)))
the weather outside is cold, since it was late autumn, and therefore could not open doors and windows

What then do I suffer? I dried out a whole bag last fall.

So every year I dry onions in huge quantities))) I then have it in all dishes instead of fresh. Very comfortably. And green dry land, it is so pleasant for them to sprinkle the finished dishes and let them brew. But our favorite dish with dried onions is bread. The smell during baking is breathtaking!

Girls, thanks for stopping by and answering questions.

Tatyana, I wrote in the notes and, I hope, the girls supplemented my explanations.

I am somehow calm about this. I cook in the spring, in the house. I think that flu prevention Smells not for long, I get used to it

Thanks everyone for the answers! If I get my own onion, I will definitely dry it, it's very interesting. It's a pity, mine don't like onion bread, but I do)))
Tricia
Angela, great onion! I love this one, I grind it in a coffee grinder and add this and dry green almost everywhere. Thanks for the reminder, it's time to make a new batch.
Venera007, Tanya,

it is generally possible everywhere for aroma, the taste of the dishes is superb! Add to the warm oil in a frying pan, hold it a little so that the aroma appears and fry the scrambled eggs, add to the minced meat, marinade to the meat, to the fry to the soup-gravy-ragout, to the "khachapuri" - other salty pastries. Recently I "killed" my husband with a delicious "bachelor" dinner of spaghetti with sauce on such an onion and leftover meat with tomatoes. I rolled my eyes, he liked it so much! And the secret is in this onion, heated in oil, so that the aroma passes into a fatty form.

Anna1957
Angel, I understand that the question is stupid, but still: how much of 1 kg is dry? I don't have my own, so I'm buying so I wonder how much it will cost. And one more thing: when drying, the smell is strong, as I understood, it is not worth drying with anything in the same dryer? Except for meat - here this smell will be in +.
This powder may well suit me, as well as powder from dried buckles, for diet baking.
Tanya-Fanya
ang-kay - Angela!
Struck down to fall! Just in the oven on convection ??? And you get this mind-blowing onion ???
What a "clever" I am I drove him from Israel! I thought he was so golden ...
Brilliant! Angela!
Now I beg you, teach on convection: exactly how long in time? Or in several stages? To what state should it be brought?
Israeli onions are golden, as if fried and still dry. When I crush it with my hands, the fat remains. As if it was being dried in oil.
I dried the garlic by convection. Also 50-60 degrees. But for several days for several hours, because the oven cannot be kept open. She has smart brains and she turns off.
Urrrraaa! Now I will SHUSH the onion myself!
(Well, what was I thinking about before? Drying garlic, drying apples, and onions ... already from Izrailovka).

Anastasia, Tatyana, thanks for the praise of the recipe)

Anh, I never weigh. I can sit down and peel and cut a bucket of onions. Tanya-Admin has dried onions. There, I think, there are grams.

Yes, you need to dry separately.

Tatyana, the oven does not need to be kept open. Just open periodically to let the steam escape. I can't say about the time, because it also depends on the oven, the juiciness of the onion and its quantity.

Probably in oil and dried. This one is different. But not worse at all.
Quote: Tanya-Fania

Sushi to the state you need. I wrote in the notes that at first I have it white, then it darkens. And Lena-Silyavka dries to a caramel color.

I think it's still cheaper than buying ready-made dried ones.

Girls, how do you put it in bread? I dried it last year. The smell is awesome. And she put it in the dough and the smell was not particularly felt, there was a little bit of bread with bitterness. Sourdough bread. Maybe there are some subtleties?
ang-kay
Mila Sweetheart, just when kneading the dough. It smells and does not taste bitter.
Mila Sweetheart
ang-kay, Angela, thanks. We must also try. I kind of put it straight into the dough. Dry. Maybe a lot

And I dried it in the fall. After harvesting, I rejected onions with small defects, so I dried them. I will repeat drying in the spring.
Radushka
I dry leeks like that. In late autumn, a lot of it is sold on the wholesale market at a very pleasant price. Bread with it + dill - a fairy tale! It's just that there is such a taste-aroma ... of butter (for some reason). I didn't even think that it was possible to dry the turnip! But in the spring of it, starting to sprout, there is a lot on sale. And he often lies in the "markdown"

Angela, finally dried the onion From 8 large onions, this is the way out.

Onion Powder

The smell is charming, although while the whole apartment was drying it smelled of onions, I thought my husband was biting me, because he hates the smell of onions, but now he says that it smells very tasty. So far I have not done anything with it, I have not even crushed it, but in the plan it is obligatory yours Onion Powder Bread Rolls, after all, it was they who prompted me to dry onions.
ang-kay
Tan, well, beauty! It was necessary to do more at once in order to dry out and not test the nerves of her husband in one fell swoop) You will like him. Aromatic and delicious with it. Waiting for the rolls)

Angela, thanks for the recipe. I also dried the onion. I used to take a store, but home is better: more fragrant and tender.
ang-kay
Vita, not at all. Of course, home is cooler! I think that it is also much cheaper)

Girls, I love dried onions! When dry, all five pallets are occupied, and five or six times! Nobody really notices the smell at home, maybe. everyone loves onions! Then I put it everywhere, even when I fry the minced meat, and I don’t want to fry the onion for it separately, I grind it directly with my hands, in raw minced meat and fry everything together, it turns out great. I can stand near the container with onions and just eat ... An irreplaceable thing in the house !!

AngelaI think I know what I'm going to do from Monday.
Just today I looked at the nets with onions that are hung in the summer kitchen. The onions stored in the fall are already beginning to sprout actively. Usually I plant it sprouted in the ground, for greenery. But it's still early, and I wanted to try such dried onions. For a long time I heard and knew that onions are dried, but for some reason I did not do this, but then I read the comments and decided.
Silyavka, Elena, thank you for bringing the topic to the topic
Silyavka
nila, Nelya, do it, it’s delicious, if dried until golden brown, it’s generally delicious.
nila
Silyavka, Elena, and how long did you dry until golden? I'll dry it in the house, I'm afraid that my husband will send it from the house with this drying.

You can, of course, try it in the oven, but I have it for 46 liters, and the pallets on the dryer are already 6. But for the second year I did not get the dryer.
Svetlana-cat
Girls, rather than men, do not like bows so much ?? I dry - everyone just walks and sniffs ... with pleasure
Silyavka
nila, Nelya, the smell is there only at the beginning of drying, I already wrote about this, then the smell changes to a more delicious one. I don’t remember the time, I don’t look at the time. If it is possible to put the dryer in the veranda, it is better to put it. The smell of fresh onions is absorbed into my clothes. Last year I went and stank of onions for a long time.

Svetlana-cat, Svetlana, well agree that the smell of fresh onions is very vigorous. Or my bow is so own.

My clothes didn't smell like onions when they dried it.There is a pungent smell only at the beginning of drying, maybe an hour or a little more, then the smell is pleasant. I also love dried onions.
nila
Angela, I forgot to report. I dried the onions, cleaned up 2 buckets of sprouted onions. It turned out 6 full, large trays of the Veterok2 dryer. When dry, I poured it into a saucepan, that's how much it turned out. The saucepan is true for 5 liters.

Onion Powder
I did not dry it until it was caramel color, my husband began to get excited that the dryer works for 15 hours, how much light it turns on. It is cheaper to throw out the sprouted onions and buy a new one. Dried out already when he left for work so that he would appear less.

nila
Giraffe, Tanya, no, I was not thinking. Although the most interesting! I don’t know how much the dryer turned up in 15 hours. And I don’t know how much onion is in stores now, but they say that it has dropped in price, against what we took in the fall.
Venera007
But to me, so dried onions are still a different product ... And if you buy dried onions, then they are not cheap .. so it is definitely more profitable to dry yourself))

Tatyana, I agree to all 100
OgneLo
Quote: nila
how much light will turn
1) 0.6 kW × 15 h = 9 kW
2) 9 kW × Your electricity tariff = The cost of electricity spent on drying a portion of onions
3) Weight of a finished portion of onion in kg ÷ (The cost of electricity spent on drying a portion of onions + The cost of a portion of raw materials put into drying) = The sum of costs in terms of 1 kg of dried onions produced by you.
4) Comparison The amount of your costs in terms of 1 kg of dried onions and the cost of 1 kg of dried onions on sale.

I dried the onions, already 2 buckets
Nelya, the girls correctly wrote to you that this is a completely different product. If you buy dried onions, then it will turn out to be many times more expensive than cooked with your own hands. And if you believe what Marina wrote, then you spent 15 hryvnia and 12 kopecks on drying it. This corresponds to buying 2 kg of fresh onion. And 2 kg of onions are not two discarded buckets. Therefore, let the husband not grumble)
Marika33
And I really like dried onions. I want to plant more this year in order to dry it for future use. I add it everywhere to improve the taste of the dish and aroma.
Olga 61
nila, find it on youtube. fried dried onions. there it does not need to be dried in a dryer. You might like to do this.
nila
Girls, I don’t understand, where did you get the idea that I didn’t like drying onions in the dryer? Maybe I didn't quite understand what I wrote, because I came home from work with a headache and pressure. But I wrote both here and in the Gazebo that it was my husband who was just emerging, and in order not to irritate him, and not to argue with him, I just turned off the dryer in the morning, and then more so that it would cool down a little. Because it was turned on from 6 pm to 7 am. She cooled down a bit, my husband went to work and I turned it on again. It's useless to argue with him, he generally told me - why do you need this dried onion, and what will you do with it?
OgneLo, Marina ま り な, ang-kay, AngelaThank you for calculating the costs for me. But I perfectly understand how to calculate, I just don't want to even bother with it.
