Ingredients

Peeled potatoes 600 gr.
fresh pork lard without skin 150 gr.
bulb onions 100-150 gr.
dried apples 35 gr.
salt pepper taste

Cooking method

  • TarkovankaRub the peeled potatoes on fine ("prickly")
  • grater
  • TarkovankaLard (I have a meat layer) cut into small cubes and fry until golden brown (no need to fry)
  • TarkovankaCut the onion into cubes and fry too. Add fried onions and lard to the grated potatoes, salt and pepper to taste.
  • TarkovankaWe wash the apples in hot water, cut (if large pieces) and add to the potato mass. Mix everything well.
  • TarkovankaWe spread the potato mass in a pot and bake in an oven preheated to 220C for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 180C and bake for another 40 minutes
  • TarkovankaServe with butter and milk.

The name of the dish comes from the term of the Belarusian cuisine "tarkovaya mass", which means raw potatoes, grated and not squeezed out after that, but used in further cooking along with the juice that was released.
