Fermented Geranium Meadow Leaf Tea (Mullah Herb)

Ingredients

Meadow geranium 1 kg.

Cooking method

  • Kind time of day to all experimenters, fermenters, tea business and just good people!
  • Ludmila lappl1, the author of the recipe for "Fermented tea ...", asked to lay out this recipe as a separate topic to make it easier to find and use. Which is what I do, although I emphasize that this is just a recipe, which is still based on Lyudmila's recipes
  • Girls and boys and all tea lovers, pay attention to this comment.
  • Hello everyone! Maybe my first tea-making experience will be interesting to someone. It is true that it was a very long time ago, then there was no Internet and such competent teachers. When we went to pick berries, we were shown the herb from which our ancestors made tea. And we several people started making tea. I remember the leaves crumpled a little and put them in an enamel bowl under a press, the more advanced ones wrapped them in oilcloth and put them under their mattress to ferment. Dried simply in the air. This herb in our translation from Tatar is called (mullah's herb). It is strange that no one mentions this herb, it is positioned here as a tea herb. The tea was delicious and brewed very hard. Botanists said it was a forest geranium. It grows in bunches. flowers are pinkish lilac. leaves are carved.
  • Unfortunately, the author who left this entry does not visit our forum anymore, and there is no way to ask about the intricacies.
  • We will do everything ourselves.
  • This year, spring is early, and this miracle - a flower - is blooming on the mountain forest lawns. And so \ "Forest geranium \" or (mullah's grass). With this grass, no one will have problems in shortage, it grows everywhere.

  • grinded into a meat grinder twice (since the whole process is used, it is advisable to grind twice slowly, the first time using a large hole, the second time an average)
  • (this is how the first grind looks like)

  • (this is what the second looks like)

  • left for fermentation for 2 hours, drying 30 minutes 120, 1.5 hours 60
  • after drying, using a colander, separated the tea fractions into granules and a fine residue

  • Bottom line: after drying, it vaguely resembles Ivan-tea by its Smell after drying, color (GORGEOUS). Astringency with this color is too small, but let's see what happens in half a year, although I already know the answer (everything will be as it should)
  • It is not a color, it is something with something. I think that in mixes it will be very appropriate to give the drink a rich color

tea can be made from any geranium, it has no poisonous representatives. It's just that the leaves can be smaller or larger.

And for making tea, the appearance is indifferent - either forest or meadow, they are very similar in the aroma of leaves. Meadow is mainly used as a medicinal plant. But we need delicious tea, not raw materials, so we will pinch both types.

Zachary, Thank you!

Zachary, Thank you! I like geranium too. I added color to the mixes, as you said, gorgeous.
Galina Iv.
Zakhary, I'm sorry, but what kind of geranium are you writing about, meadow and forest geraniums are two different species. You have meadow in the title, and forest in the text.
space
Zakhari, many thanks for your work and popularization of magic teas and methods of preparation !!!!!!!
I enjoy reading all your recipes
And it seems like I got infected with tea making and I don't want to be vaccinated against this disease.
Tomorrow I'll go to inspect the territory

Zakhari, thanks for posting! And then some people have sclerosis, they talked about geranium tea, but I successfully forgot ... We don't have it yet, we'll wait.

Veronique, thanks for the clarification. Zachari, then indicate this in the recipe, please.

Neither forest nor meadow, sadness grows here ... I look at the room, but not her.
Can I sit on the tail of Zachariah? Yes, agree on 50g?
Radushka
Thank you, Zachary! Yesterday I went to the meadow. Narwala is a herb very similar to geranium. And the smell is similar. Not blooming yet. And even the buds are not visible. With our almost daily rains throughout the month, the size of the leaves is HUGE. On my forest, which sits under roses in the city garden, it looks like ... like ... Now, if she bloomed! While wilted and frozen. In a week I'll go see again
francevna
Zachary, you have such a beautiful tea color.
I showed my husband the flowers, I thought I saw somewhere on the way to fishing, but no, I didn't.

Thank you very much for the design of your recipes with separate topics, it is very convenient to search and informatively read new ways of making tea!
Tell me, please, did you dry the geranium? It's just that in the "hardening" method the wilting stage was skipped (the leaves were in the bag for a day and then immediately went into the freezer, etc.). You can clarify this point a little.
Dilara
Hello everyone! Thank you Zakhariy for the design of the geranium tea recipe.

Of course, in the hardening recipe there is no way to correct this pass.

Hello everyone! Thank you Zakhariy for the design of the geranium tea recipe.
Dilara I hope this is your comment, the quotes of which I posted at the top? I would be glad to know more about the methods of harvesting geraniums in your area.

Zachary
Thanks a lot for the clarification!
I'm going to wrap the geranium in a sheet until morning, otherwise I wanted to keep it in the bag for a day ... Thank you!

Zachary, I waited for your recipe as a separate topic. Thank you so much ! Gorgeous tea in the photo! And everything is written wonderfully! And although I have not seen geraniums here, I am glad for everyone who can find this wonderful herb.
DilaraThank you for sharing your experience last year. See how useful it is!
paramed1, Veronichek, thank you for the clarifications and clarifications on the types of geraniums! Now everyone can safely make such tea, without fearing whether they are tearing the geranium ...

Zachary, contact the Chef in a personal, or better, right in the recipe, at the very bottom click on the button "Report an error, clarification or violation" and there in the window that opens, ask to insert the missing text. Just indicate where you want to insert this text. I did that. The chef rules.
Girls, for this recipe, like Zakhar's previous recipes, I made a link in the first post on the first page in the "Tea Gazebo".

I would like to know everything related to the preparation of this tea from you.All you know? How was it made, what kind of oilcloth was it wrapped in, how was it put in a basin? All you can tell us about the secrets of its preparation. I am sure that everyone will be interested in your knowledge.
lappl1
Dilara, I support Zakhara! Please share your secrets.

I have been making this tea for a long time. Geranium grows in a bunch of us and we collected in bunches. In an enamel bowl under pressure, I fermented it. On fermentation, it got almost green and was kept for days until darkening. I just dried it in the air. When I went to see a neighbor. I was stunned. she fermented by wrapping it in oilcloth and placing it under the mattress and sleeping on it. Apparently she caught this process. I forgot to warn you. some have complained of tea headaches. Now, of course, I would have done it differently. but we rarely find geraniums in nearby forests. (how to insert a quote?)

Here is something missing, as it seems to me, I put it in a basin under the press, but in 4 days the sheet did not change at all and was afraid to hold it any longer so as not to get moldy.
There are probably subtleties?

On the site medportal.su I have just read about meadow geranium. The information is very necessary, the plant is medicinal, but there are many contraindications. And although the properties of medicinal during fermentation are reduced, I think this information should be known.
Or maybe you even need to partially write in the topic.

Radushka, well, just my thoughts. I also walked in circles around the meadow geranium just now, I hope this is it. But I did not dare to cut it, I will wait for the flowers to make sure it is geranium. But in those places where I wandered there was not so much of it (or did it get between the eyes?). I'm waiting for flowering.

Zachary, thanks for the recipe.
How great is it that Lyudochka came up with different teas with separate recipes. In the winter I read about geraniums, and by the spring I had already forgotten about it. And now everything is at hand.

great Lyudochka came up with, highlight different teas with separate recipes

Now, it also seems to me that EVERYONE who has the MOST FAVORITE tea would be better off making it into a separate recipe!
Most likely, with our favorite plant, we begin to try different technologies, choose what makes tea tastier, and work with it more pleasant. And, having decided on the preferences for taste, I do not want to repeat the "mistakes" and follow the path that someone has already passed. After reading the detailed recipe (and, rather, the technological process) for making tea from a particular plant, you can immediately take into account all the raisins. And achieve the perfect tea! (as she said, yes?)

I found a geranium, but the flowers were slightly different, I googled it, it turned out that I have a forest geranium, only blooming. I will definitely do it now ...

Now I don't remember how many days they fermented and called my friend. she says she was kept under pressure for several days. They told me to keep it until dark. The smell of mold was present. but after drying it evaporated. It seems to me that you shouldn't bother with this method. You made a very beautiful tea through a meat grinder.

I would not hope that the mold will "evaporate"! It is better to do so that there is no hint of this smell! So, I think ... If I twist it at 7 in the morning to finish drying at 22, I will have to start drying at 17. So ... anyway, 10 hours of fermentation, minimum. And the last portion will be 13-14 hours of fermentation
Galina Iv.
but I would be interested in a manual process, not a meat grinder ..

When I gave a comment, I emphasized the herb from which you can make tea. The method certainly needs some work. The smell of mold bothered me too. We will bring to mind with collective intelligence. Lyudmila will tell you. I also only did one summer and it was a long time ago.

Simply cut with a knife. fermented and dried. Last year Zakhari did.

Dilara,
Galina Iv.
Dilara, this is all clear, I would like to hear the experience from connoisseurs on taste, how much fermentation ..
Radushka
Galina Iv.there seems to be no connoisseurs. You yourself will have to become

Radushka, let's go!)

And I did find a geranium within walking distance. It seems that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow they are threatening to knock off the meadow, it will be very sorry for the grass.
Tell me, Zachary, girls, does she have a leaf with a fluff?

Uryayaya! ¡!
From the morning, as the dew disappears, I'll go fishing.
Lenus, how to take it? Only a leaf, no petioles?
By the way, the weed passed the batch test perfectly. My weed)))

Thank you. There are no flowers yet, which is why I began to doubt, is she?

Fermented Geranium Meadow Leaf Tea (Mullah Herb)

Trying to insert a photo of a geranium that I found.
It seems to have worked!
I hope it’s geranium, otherwise we’ll have to turn it tomorrow ...
Radushka
Nadyushich, and I don't even have flowers to compare. True, the plants are one to one, as in the photo
Nadyushich
Radushka, This is in the Ivanovo region, and in Kharkov should bloom for a long time .... Maybe not geranium for me?
Radushka
Hope, or me? Forest blooms. And meadow (?) No By smell, leaves smell the same
Galina Iv.
Nadyushich, Hope, this is geranium
Radushka
Galina Iv., so I have geraniums too!

Nadyushich, Hope, this is geranium
Hurrah!!! And I also found a scent here, a bluish flower and twice as large, and the leaves are one to one. I didn't take a picture, it was starting to rain. Probably some kind of geranium too?
Nadyushich
Good day! I made geranium tea! But I'll start in order. She walked back and forth from the freezer to the windowsill and back 4 times. Yesterday she began to twist her in a manual meat grinder, it's a quiet horror, the tough autumn leaves are resting. There was even a thought to quit this business, like there is something to make of good teas ... But, curiosity overpowered and I tightened it up, but only once, the second, no matter how easy it was, I had no strength. I fermented for two hours, then put it in the refrigerator, since there was no time to dry. After 6 hours, I dried it like all roasted teas. It dried up very quickly, twice as fast. Poured into a bag. Yes, when I twisted and dried there was no special aroma, but in any case, not disgusting. The dried tea did not smell. Today I brewed ...... The color is beautiful! And the aroma! Something reminds me, and what - I can't remember! And the taste is excellent! With astringency! And the aftertaste!
When I was spinning geraniums, I thought that I would satisfy my curiosity and I wouldn’t do it again ... And now ...I still want this tea! Both mono and mix! And what will happen to him when it is infused! I’m just thinking of trying to twist it without stems, I don’t know if I’ll get enough leaves ... The clearing that I found is small ...
Radushka
Hope, thank you very much for the "shared experience"! I collected only leaves, no stems. After withering, weighed it. Only half a kilo. I'll go on the weekend. I want to make a full part in mono. I don’t have it for the mix and I’ll hardly have it. Although .... we'll see. It's far from autumn
Nadyushich
RadushkaSo now I will also collect some leaves, and if there is not enough for a full-fledged batch, then I will make a mix, maybe with an apple or raspberry, her aroma will be enough to improve any scent.
