water for painting solution to cover the husk

nylon stockings (socks, tights)
threads of light colors

Cooking method

  • On our wonderful site there are already similar methods of coloring eggs. it Onion Husk Dyed Eggs by Elena Our and Checkered Eggs Colored in Onion Hulls by Zena... The method of coloring Easter eggs, which has long and successfully been practiced in my family (first in my parent's, and later in my own) is similar to them. However, it is slightly different and produces eggs of a uniform color with contrasting prints of different shapes.
  • So let's get started.
  • 1. First, make a paint solution. Just put the onion peel in a saucepan, fill it with water and cook. This year, I put the solution in the evening, cooked it in the multitool on the "soup" mode (1 hour) and after turning off the multi, I left it to cool down with the saucepan. After that (you can in the morning) we strain the husk to obtain a solution without inclusions. I strained through a fine sieve and then again through cheesecloth. If you prepared the solution in advance, a few days before staining, then it will calmly survive in the refrigerator these joyful days of preparation for the great holiday.
  • 2. The actual coloring.
  • We get the eggs out of the refrigerator in advance. I took it out in the evening, painted it in the morning. This is necessary to equalize the temperature of the eggs. This is less likely to get cracked. I wash my eggs, but this is at the discretion of the hostess.
  • We collect leaves from any non-poisonous plants. This year I came across gooseberry leaves, lovage, a plant we call "aunts" and something else. Mom likes the leaves of hawthorn and red rowan.
  • My leaves. Do not dry - they must be wet for better adhesion
  • Easter eggs painted in a stocking
  • Next, lay a leaf on the egg. Since it is wet, it adheres well and can be slightly deformed for a picturesque look. When stacking leaves, I take into account two factors:
  • 1) I place the sheet away from the stamp. The brand will be painted over with a solution. If there is a leaf on the stamp, then the stamp will not be painted over and it will be visible
  • 2) I orient the top of the leaf along the "nose" of the egg. That is, the leaf petiole is directed downward towards the "bottom" of the egg. I see this arrangement more harmonious.
  • Easter eggs painted in a stocking
  • Then the most interesting thing begins - you need to tightly tighten the egg with a leaf into a nylon stocking. Place the tie for the stocking on the side opposite from the leaf. We fix the place of the tie with threads - just tie it into several knots. Ideally, an assistant is needed here, but if he is absent, you can get the hang of it and do everything alone. The tightening should be tight, this provides a secure fit and contrast of the pattern. Threads of any composition (synthetics, linen, cotton, blended), but it is better not to take wool - it is inconvenient to work - it is shaggy. We take threads in light colors, dark ones can shed. This year I experimented and used 3 types of nylon products - smooth, with a dense pattern (they are white in the photo) and "mesh". Tighten all the eggs one by one. I repeat - one at a time. Otherwise, the "sticker" will dry out and fall off.

  • Now pour the paint solution into the pot and put the eggs there. This can be done without getting your hands dirty - there are "tails". We paint eggs as standard for coloring with husks. I cook for 10 minutes after boiling and leave it in the solution until it cools. I don't add salt.
  • If the solution is not enough for the selected dish, it can be diluted with water. The solution can be reused.

  • We take the eggs out of the solution. Better to do it one at a time.If you get them all at once, they can dry out and peel off the natural "sticker" will be problematic
  • Easter eggs painted in a stocking
  • Using small scissors, cut off the stocking under the tie and remove it
  • Easter eggs painted in a stocking
  • Now we remove the leaf. It is soft, so it is easier to remove with the abrasive side of the dish sponge and the same used stocking. Eggs can be washed with water, the paint is durable

  • Well, that's all, you can enjoy the result))

An experiment with the texture of the stocking gave an interesting result. The volumetric drawing did not affect the texture of the egg in any way. And the "grid" gave an interesting drawing

Happy Easter!

Ikra
IvaNova, thanks for the master class! I have long wanted to look carefully at how to glue the leaves. And, as always before Easter, there is not enough time for this. Now I will remember! The main thing is to stock up on the right material. Otherwise, this year I almost went nuts - there were only 2 bulbs in the house.
I really like with the leaves !!!!

Irina, it turned out beautifully. With the first recipe for you!
IvaNova
To your health, Irin! Delight yourself and loved ones with the beauty
And I have already begun to collect the husk - by next Easter
Masinen
Irina, thanks for MK))) Very informative))
Anatolyevna
Irina, Ira, how interesting! Nice, informative!
Now I will know how to do it!
olechka99
IvaNova, Irina, thank you for such a detailed description of the process. Take note!)
ginura
IvaNova, Irina, thank you very much. I will definitely do so next year.
IvaNova
Girls, thanks for your attention to the recipe! (although this is more of a method)
Paint without fear - the process is simple. She painted longer than she painted
If you live in a cold region, and Easter is early, you can always use parsley and celery leaves from the store. Although in our Tver suburbs, snow and mountain ash usually manage to release greens even by early Easter

Irina, dreamed of learning this coloring, thanks for the science. When I dyed Marble Eggs, according to Zena's recipe, I used gauze and did not think of using kapronki (always a bag in stock). Thanks for the tip!

IvaNova, Irin, if I can make my little contribution to you perfectly described process. In my family, this method is also passed on to the third generation. My mint is small, but maybe someone will come in handy: for greater contrast, it is better to take white eggs. And it is also better to soak the husk for coloring in water in advance, then it does not float on the surface during cooking and it does not need to be constantly heated (usually I paint eggs on Thursday evening after work, so I soak it on Thursday morning, cook it in the evening). Well, in the final, I rub each testicle with a drop of vegetable oil - then they shine beautifully.
I hope I did not offend anyone with my comments, but suddenly someone will find it useful ...

IvaNova, Irinawhat a beauty!
Such work is painstaking! While you glue, while you wrap ...
Thank you!
IvaNova
melanya, Thank you! Very valuable additions.
I have somehow got used to red eggs, white eggs are rarely on sale, I still need to look.
I forgot about vegetable oil I do not polish, I am lazy
You have such a wonderful photo! Immediately felt the spirit of a bright holiday in a strong family
Elena_Kamchit only seems
This year I painted 18 eggs. The solution was cooked in advance (by the way, I really liked to cook it in a cartoon - it does not run away and does not steam). In the morning, it took less than an hour to do everything about everything (along with the search for leaves in the yard and accelerating kicks for my daughter)

Great! And we still have snow ... And today it is. If you specially grow greens on the window for eggs
Aunt Besya
What a beauty !!!
And every year I am going to paint it with husk and every year I don’t have it, so I stupidly forget to start collecting it, as it’s time to draw the Cross on my forehead

It's time to draw a cross on the forehead
The main thing is to remember why there is a cross I already have
Mom Tanya
We paint in this way every year. Every year there is no time, I get tired ... I think I will not bother ... probably one of my relatives-friends will also do ... But my daughter - a perpetual motion machine - makes me! Yes, and conscience somehow does not allow you to relax!)

I have already started collecting husks next year
There is a tied bag under the sink, after each cooking I put the husk there

Tanya, how lovely!
I also say that I will not, but ... I have already put off a freshly torn stocking for next Easter
It's such a joy to give a person a trifle - just a beautiful testicle - and see his smile and surprise
For this, time is found, and fatigue is pushed back
Tanyush! Can you tell me how you made the bouquet in the background?

I absolutely agree with you that small joys give a lot of strength!)))

Thank you! But I really liked the idea. I will think, what can I please

I have been using this method for twenty years. I don't like chemical dyes, but my soul asks for variety.
I do in the same way as Irina,, but I add painted pictures to the natural leaves (after all, there is early Easter, and the leaves have not grown). I draw any plot on a notebook sheet, cut it out with nail scissors, moisten the egg with water, and "glue" the picture. Further into the stocking and the husk.
P.S. Notebook paper is pliable, when wet it fits well a round egg without forming creases.
I hope the principle will be clear from the photo, there is no other, the holiday is long gone.

Oksana 34, I wonder how! I take paper pictures into service. Thank you!
