Barley with potatoes in a slow cooker

Ingredients

Pearl barley 1 glass
Potatoes 250 g
Onion 120 g
Vegetable oil 2-3 st. l.
Water 2.5 cups
Salt pepper taste

Cooking method

  • Let the slow cooker warm up for 20 minutes at HIGH mode.
  • Put the pearl barley in a sieve and put it to rinse under running water.
  • Peel and wash the onions. Small onion, potatoes like soup. Heat a thick-walled frying pan, slightly grease it with vegetable oil and brown the potato slices, add onions and a little water, stew for 1-2 minutes so that the pungent smell of onions disappears. Add 2.5 cups of water and pearl barley, bring to a boil and let it simmer for a couple of minutes, removing the foam.
  • Transfer to a slow cooker bowl, add some salt, cover and cook LOW for 2 hours.
  • Add salt to the finished dish, season with freshly ground pepper and vegetable oil.
  • You can serve it just like that, and with fried mushrooms, and when there is no fasting, then with sour cream, or with fried pieces of pork.

Cooking pearl barley in a slow cooker is a pleasure. Indeed, I set it and forgot it, it won't burn, it won't run away and it will steam up perfectly. An idle and hearty lean dish.

My mom used to cook like that, you can put more or less potatoes, according to your taste. My mother did it in a cast iron, then under the pillow she "rebuked" and soaked the pearl barley overnight in water or in kefir.
