Ingredients

dry red lentils 300 g

Cooking method

  • 1. Pour cold water over lentils, bring to a boil
  • 2. Add the diced young potatoes. I don't clean, no one notices, and the skin contains a lot of vitamins. The main thing is to thoroughly wash from the ground.
  • 3. Simmer for 20 minutes over low heat, covered.
  • 4. While cooking lentils, peel the ginger, grate it, peel the garlic, pass through the garlic press, mix with the ginger. For those who like spicy, add chili to this mixture. My children eat, I don't add.
  • 5. 20 minutes after cooking the lentils, add half of the ginger-garlic, a thick part from a jar of coconut milk, lemon juice, salt to taste, turmeric. Stir. This is where you need to start trying ... I can add turmeric or lemon juice, or salt, or coconut ... This is as you like, but the quantities according to the original recipe, as indicated above
  • 6. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes
  • 7. During these five minutes in a small frying pan or a scoop, heat the butter, add the mustard seeds there, when they begin to swell, add the remaining half of the garlic-ginger mixture. The fire should not be strong - the garlic-ginger may burn out or, worse, start shooting and burn you. Thus, we kind of introduce the aromas of mustard-ginger-garlic into the oil - this technique is fundamental in Indian cuisine.
  • 8. Pour aromatic oil into our vegetables. I am not stirring. Cover with a lid, let stand for 5-10 minutes (if possible, since the aromas are amazing).
  • 9. Serve with rice or tortillas

An excellent vegetarian dish, very aromatic and healthy. My husband even agrees to eat it without meat, which is cool, because I try to get away from meat protein every day, replace it with vegetable one (well, my opinion at the moment is that it will be better for health).

You can take it, but you should definitely wash the brown one before cooking, and you probably need to observe the proportions of water recommended on the package with lentils and adjust the cooking time ... If you cook it longer, then throw the potatoes later so that they don't fall apart completely. These are my thoughts out loud, as I would do ...

My dish, I enjoyed it. The family also ate with pleasure, so I will definitely cook.
