Ingredients

Large beets 1 PC.
Red onion 1 PC.
Lightly salted herring (fillet) 100gr.
Potatoes medium 2 pcs.
Carrot 2 pcs.
Pickled cucumbers 2 pcs.
Canned green peas 200 g
Salt, sugar, pepper
Oil for dressing - unrefined rapeseed (or olive)
Marinade:
Water 200 ml.
Vinegar 3% 100 ml.
Honey or sugar 2 tbsp. l.
Salt 1/2 box spoons
Bay leaf a couple of pieces
Black pepper 5 peas
Allspice 1-2 peas
Medium onion 1 PC.

Cooking method

  • Vinaigrette in German
  • Boil the beets the day before. We cool with cold water and clean. Cut into slices or cubes, put in a cup with onion rings.
  • Fill with cooled marinade. We leave in the cold for a day (preferably two).

  • If there is not enough time for pickling, then all products are finely chopped and placed in a salad bowl: beets, carrots, potatoes, peas, cucumbers, onions and fish. Prepare the dressing separately: mix with 2 tbsp. l. butter and 2 tbsp. l. 3% vinegar, add sugar, salt, ground black and allspice. We fill the dish and let it brew a little.

I returned to the hotel, interviewing passers-by in the purest German language with a wonderful English-Russian accent, and at the same time pointing my finger at a brochure with a photo of that very hotel)))) But no one understood me. I somehow managed to find the road (it's good that I was not far)))) And they also say: "The language will bring to Kiev" ... I did not bring it)))

And in Halle, we had a meeting with the locals.Vodka, which everyone carried under the lining of a suitcase as currency, was very useful for making contacts. The evening was wonderful! Someone from the group then corresponded with one girl who was studying Russian language and culture. I think that girl's name was Martha. She even came to visit our city. And of course we had a party. They wanted to treat her home. The very best! But Martha offered to cook according to her recipes, and we were on hand. They cooked from what was at hand, or what they could get. Martha had plans for a shank with sauerkraut stew, apple pie and mulled wine. But thanks to our efforts, we got pike perch with potatoes and vinaigrette with herring. Well, the drink was still brewed.
Marta brought us calendars and cookbooks as gifts. True in German. But we were also incredibly happy about that !!!
