Victorian Milk Bread

Ingredients

wheat flour (original hard grades) 500g
milk 300g
fresh / dry yeast 15g \ 2h. l.
sugar 1h l.
salt 1.5h l.

Cooking method

  • This bread, with its thin, soft crust and delicate crumb, has been popular since the days of Queen Victoria. It holds its shape well and can be excellent toast bread. An elegant S-shaped loaf is easy to make.
  • Dissolve yeast with sugar in 100ml of milk. Let the yeast rise with a hat. Then add the remaining milk and flour with salt. Knead the dough for 10 minutes. Until a homogeneous elastic mass is obtained.
  • Place the dough in a container, cover and let the dough rise for 45 minutes. Then knead and let rise again for 45 minutes.
  • Form a loaf, but with sharp edges. Wrap in an S-shape. And let it distance for 1 hour

  • Bake in an oven preheated to 200C for 45 minutes.
