Cake assembly puzzle

Ingredients

Light biscuits 2 layers
Dark biscuits 3 layers
Interlayer cream 1200 g
Impregnation for cake layers (approx) 500g
A plate or mold for assembling a cake
Small jar lid
Knife

Cooking method

  • Today I came to you with a cake, which is interesting not so much from the outside as inside.
  • Since, when assembling the cake, I was faced with the fact that it is not very clear from the photo how and what to do, I decided to photograph all this and duplicate my actions in words.
  • You will need two biscuits for this cake. One is light, the other is chocolate.
  • I baked both biscuits according to the recipe IRZA honey without soda for 5 eggs each.
  • In one of them, 20 grams of cocoa was added to the flour.
  • Form 24cm. The height turned out to be 4.5cm.
  • Cake assembly puzzle
  • We take a knife and put it to the edge of this circle at an angle, so that it comes out, just along the edge of our stand.
  • Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle
  • We move the knife along the edge of the upper cap and lower stand in a circle, cutting out a cone from our workpiece. We raise our workpiece. We have a cone on the stand, which we leave aside for now.
  • Cake assembly puzzle
  • We still had one more chocolate crust. We spread it with cream and put our biscuit blank with the wide cut out part of the cone down on it. At the top we have a chocolate cake with a small hole at the top. We have a big hole inside.
  • Now we carefully begin to press our workpiece with our hands inward, repeating the shape of the cut out cone, which we have inside. We make such a big one out of a small hole. In this case, the cake changes the shape of the layers inside, as if bending.
  • Cake assembly puzzle
  • We coat our blank with cream and insert the previously cut cone inside. Here we have such an assembled workpiece.
  • Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle
  • We cover the cake with cream further and further, as usual, and decorate the cake at our discretion.
  • I just want to suggest that due to the unusual assembly of this cake, it loses its even shape. And it turns out a little barrel. Therefore, in order to align it well, you will have to use a lot of cream. To prevent this from happening, it is better to level the sides with crumbs and cream.
  • I decorated the cake with a mesh of chocolate. Here are some photos. I wrote in more detail about decorating with a net HERE

Note

How such a cake is going to be seen on the forum by the cook. RU 🔗.
I talked about this cake Nairka. Thank you so much for showing the photo how to take it.
: I really liked this cut. But I didn't understand much from the pictures. Well the husband was at home. I called him and together they seemed to document how this beauty is going.
The name of the cake "Puzzle" was coined by joint efforts.

Huh, already sweating until I realized! But I understood! It's just that in the photo there is a chocolate cake with a hole already jammed inside, and I sit and think what needs to be deformed there
Thank you, Huskythat brought this idea. I love these cakes, especially for myself and my own.

Huh, already sweating until I realized! But I understood!
I also broke my brains, but still I didn't quite understand how it is to hush up ...
husky , Lyudochka, be so kind again about this jam for the gifted !!! Pzhalsta !!! Or is it a dark cake set aside that is jammed inside the cut one ??
Husky
Balm for the soul !!! I'm not the only one so "teachable"
Girls are not afraid, we will break through, ask questions. I will answer until you understand !!

irza, yes, at that moment of the assembly, I got into a stupor and realized that again I did not understand anything !! How can you make such a big cone from a small hole !! ??? And therefore, I missed this moment and did not photograph. When I started to mince the top layer with my hands, I realized that I was changing the shape of the cake, and I came to my senses only when everything was done !! Therefore, there is no photo with a small hole !!
Lady with @, in front of you is a blank of four layers (inside there is already a void in the form of a cut out cone)
On top is a cake with a small hole in the size of our top cap. We begin to press down with our hands from above in a circle of the cut out cone, which is inside. It turns out that under the influence of our efforts, the inner layers of the cake change their direction. And from above it turns out such a depression, like a cone.
irza
Quote: husky

Here's a cone we get. I turned it over especially for you so that you understand how it looks.

Cake assembly puzzle

If I understood correctly, then we turn the cone (on the left in the photo below) upside down (at this bottom there is a small hole from the lid from the kandurin) and put it on the chocolate cake base. And now we start a hitch. Husky, So?

Or vice versa??? We put a dark cake on top of this wide funnel (it’s like a void inside) and push it inside?
irza
I think I wrote it right. But let's wait Husku... She swam, she knows
Vitalinka
And I also understood, as did Irza. It seems to me that the most difficult thing is to carefully cut the cone itself.
Husky, thank you very much for MK !!!
Husky
Yes! The rights irza... Here in the photo, I just turned it over so that you can see how the layers were cut.
When I began to assemble, I turned the workpiece over again so that the wide part of the cone was at the bottom, and the narrow one at the top !!!
Ooooh, I think I understood how to write to make it clear !! Or is it still not clear?
If so clear, then I will supplement the basic information.
Lady with @, if you do as you say, it will work out too, but not so interesting. Then there will be no bends. And there will be even cakes inside and only one brown will be curved. Which will visually simply separate them.
Therefore rights irza
Vitalinka, I was also afraid for the taper cut, but everything turned out to be simple. The main thing is how the knife was inserted once. They brought it to a corner along the edge of the form and cut it without removing the knife to the end in a circle.
Vitalinka
Luda , also try to insert it. I'm afraid of something about all these cuts. Did you freeze the cake before cutting?
Lady with @
husky, I looked at the Cook, and re-read your master class ... somehow I put it in my head)) it would be interesting to bring it to life. Very attractive cut !!!!! Thank you)
irza
I will definitely try this twist! Hooked.

When I made cakes only for myself and my friends, I wanted to surprise more with the interior than with the decorations. So, under the impression of the chess cake, which we loved very much, I decided to go further. I made a huge cake for my beloved spouse, the key idea was to make an interesting cut according to the chess principle. Here's what happened then

Cake assembly puzzle

Don't laugh, but if you look closely, in the cut, a light biscuit forms a heart. Maybe not quite clear, BUT the husband was pleased.

Hasochka sorry for the flood, but your cake just revived the memories
Husky
And I saw him, heart !! Very much even visible !! Now I will probably decide to play chess inside too !! Also, probably still the same puzzle.
Oops girls, help give a name to this cake! Nothing comes to mind, but it is necessary to put it in the table of contents !!
irza
Not, Husky, after your variation, chess is a song!
As for the name, when looking at the cut, only "serpentine" came to mind. Maybe "Sweet Serpentine", unless you want to tie the name to the external design of the cake
ilkva
Khasochka, well, you asked the puzzle with your cake: o I re-read 10 times, probably not 10, probably 20, but I seem to understand, it turns out very nicely: girl_love: In the near future I will definitely try: flowers: But there are not enough pictures with inverted cakes, it seems to me because of this, all the misunderstandings
Lady with @
So the name of the cake was born by itself - "Puzzle")))
irza
Exactly! "Puzzle" rules !!!
Husky
Already put the name !! Thanks everyone !!!
skate
Lyudochka, thanks for the wonderful master class, from the photo on 🔗, did not understand anything, but according to your description I understood everything, THANKS
Husky
Thank you girls !!
skate, I, too, some photos were not enough. I needed explanations. I received them in the person of my husband. But all the same it is not completely visible. Believe me, when you start doing, then everything somehow "settles" and understanding comes to the end in practice, that is, during assembly.
Try it, it was not difficult at all.
I know now this lesson is mastering NatalyaN I hope we will see the result!

And I avoided it and gathered it in a ring.

... We find the middle and put some round object of small diameter on it. We need it to rest against it, as well as a knife will slide on it. I have this lid from a jar of canurin ...

ATTENTION! our radius, which should turn out, should be greater than the height of the collected cakes, since it will sink to the bottom of the cake (I wonder if you understood my statement). I just had a small diameter cake, and high, and "some round object of small diameter" was also unsuccessfully large in diameter, I did not think about it, so the top cake of the spruce could touch the bottom of the cake, I hope that this will not greatly affect the view in the section.

here I was tempted - for some reason, leave this cake as a top cake, so that the top cake is beautiful and not cut ...
yes, there are such "tight heads", do not laugh, and suddenly there is someone else just as "smart".
firstly, it is very convenient to carry a cut piece of cake on a whole bottom cake, and not on a decaying one;
secondly, imagine that our variable cone touches the substrate or plate with an internal void, and it still needs to be smeared with cream, that is, the substrate will be dirty, no matter how hard you try.

how much did you scribble
irza
NatalyaNI'm shocked. This is already a whole geometry, radii, diameters. This cake must be lived through

Then you need 2 cakes - to the bottom and to the top!
Husky
NatalyaN 1 point is clear!
Did I understand correctly on point 2? Should the height of the cake be equal to the radius of the cake minus the radius of our lid in the middle?

https://Mcooker-enn.tomathouse.com/r-image/s42.r.1/i098/1104/4c/1fcda9bc6d6d.jpg

But with point 3, I did not understand something. On the last cake, which we have whole and only missed, we put our four cake layers with a conical hole. Moreover, with a wide conical hole down. What's wrong!!!

Cake assembly puzzle

nope, the height of the cake should not be 7 cm, much less ... because the height of the cake is "our leg", and the radius of 7 cm is "our hypotenuse", and it cannot be less than the leg.

Ira understood me right away ... well, I had a bzdyk, I wanted a whole top cake. Oh, this bzdyk is solved by the fact that you need to have 6 cakes, as Ira said !!!

Quote: irza
... This is already a whole geometry went, radii, diameters ...
I'm a mathematician at heart, so everything translates into numbers.
Husky

Well, in terms of geometry, I never had more triplets !!! I remember the truth about legs and hypotenuse !! But in order to apply ... I did not realize !!!
True, even without them I got a bend to the bottom !! By chance !!
But it's still good that you explained this moment. It will come in handy for the future !!
Husky
So who hasn't made a puzzle cake yet !!?
Came with additional photos, if the first few. Maybe this will help you better understand how he is going and there will be more applicants !!
This time I made five biscuits of different colors. As always, I tried a lot in this cake for the first time.
For the first time I painted a biscuit with paints.
Vanilla biscuit was baked in boiling water in the form of 19 cm for 2 eggs of each color. I cut each biscuit into 3 cakes. That is, I got as many blanks as three cakes!

Cake assembly puzzle

To create a cake puzzle we need:

5 cakes of different colors
knife
a shape or backing that is slightly smaller than biscuit cakes
small round lid (I have from a jar of canurin)

Cake assembly puzzle

We collect four biscuits, smearing them with cream.
bottom layer red
green
blue
top layer yellow

Cake assembly puzzle

Separately, we have the fifth cake (I have it white)
We coat it with cream too

Cake assembly puzzle

We give the collected workpiece a little freeze in the refrigerator.
We put the blank on a stand or substrate, which is slightly less than the diameter of the cake. The diameter of the stand should be smaller so that when cutting the cone, the knife slides along its side. The stand is a limiter that will help you cut an even cone.
My cake protruded 1.5 cm on each side in a circle.
Put our little cap exactly in the middle of the circle.
We insert the knife obliquely so that it passes along the edge of the lid and goes out to the side along the edge of the stand on which the workpiece stands.
We walk with a knife in a circle.

Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle

Now we take our workpiece by the bottom with our hands and lift it above the form where it stood and we cut it.
On the form, we have a cut out cone.
Nearby lies a cake with a cut out cone.
And also the fifth white cake, greased with cream.
The photo clearly shows that the main cake is cut to the hole.

Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle

Place a cake with a cut out cone on the fifth white cake. Wide part down. A small hole up.
Now you can see the cream from the bottommost cake in the hole.

Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle

Then, carefully with our hands, we begin to bend the layers of the biscuit inward.
The small hole should bend down to the cream that lubricates the bottom white cake.

Cake assembly puzzle Cake assembly puzzle

We coat the cake with cream on top.

Cake assembly puzzle

Insert the cut out cone inside the groove.

All the cake is assembled.
Then we proceed as usual.
Cover with potatoes. We freeze well and decorate.
I will show you how to decorate in another topic. In a cream.
And here I will expose a section of what happened.

Lyudochka, this is amazing !!! no, well, you are a sorceress !!!! sumptuously!!!! only one question, how much paint to put in the cakes?

Husky
Gulya, I call this cake just like you call it "Rainbow Puzzle"
In order not to clog the topic here, I'll go now to the topic of biscuits and I'll write there in this topic.

And yes, and someone there doubts that the pictures are simple, but how it really is.
Natasha, no doubt it's not difficult at all. My biggest fear was that I would not be able to push through the middle. But this was only the first time in doubt. Now I have no doubts. So do it and don't hesitate.

A very beautiful multi-colored cake, but it seems somehow inedible to me because of such bright colors

thanks, Hasochka, dear!
Era
Husky, did the Rainbow Puzzle cake soaked in?

I'm amazed! the beauty!
Husky
Yes, it did. But again, everything depends on the biscuit itself and the cream with which you sandwich. And also from your taste. How do you like dry cake or wet cake. Therefore, the impregnation will be in more or less quantity.
Era
Husky, everything is clear, thanks. Cream of course your favorite charlotte and meringue?
Luda, that's why I asked about the impregnation of the cakes, I thought that maybe there was no need to soak in this cake, because an unusual assembly, would the cake float. And now I think that impregnation is just needed, the cakes will be more elastic, it will be easier to handle.

AlenaT
Probably did it for the cub?)))
What a beauty!
I myself would not refuse such a gift)))
Leka_s
Uraaaaaa! I made it !!!
Cake assembly puzzle
Everyone is in culture shock! Thanks for MK!
geisika
Should there be exactly 5 cakes or 6? Does the thickness of the cake matter?
Husky
Olya, I always did five cakes. But you can put 6 cake layers on top, it will align the top of the cake. Desirable thickness of all cakes is the same. But this is purely for the beauty of the cut. Well, I think if the cakes are thicker than 1.5-2 cm, then it will be more difficult to bend them. Although I can't say for sure.
martaq
stunningly beautiful cake. thanks for the idea - you should definitely try. By the way, chemical dyes can be replaced at least partially with natural ones - turmeric, red berries, currants / blueberries, etc., and it seems to me that an additional contrasting crust laid out on top of the cake will favorably emphasize the pattern on the cut.
Albina
How intelligibly the recipe is given. At first, I didn't quite understand either, I followed the link. And there are no explanations at all. Simply AEROBATICS

And I got a cake according to your MK, thanks a lot, of course it's difficult, but you can, especially if such a teacher

Luda, I made vanilla on boiling water, I really liked it, and 4 drops of dyes dripped, American gel, it can certainly be harmful, but somehow I'm not afraid of this, for myself "beloved"
geisika
Does the cake need to freeze before cutting the cone? I want to do with cherries, will they get in the way of making a puzzle?
Husky
Olya, I would say to such a cake: "I let it cool in the fridge, but I don't freeze it."
Cherry. I have never made such cakes with her. It can get in the way when cutting the cone. Can dye cream and biscuits. Or maybe not. Only through experience can we find out. And you can be a pioneer with us !!
And then do not forget to share your observations with us.
geisika
They talked, I'll take a chance)))) although I will make a cake to order for a friend, I think in the name of confectionery skills she will forgive))))))
