Harvesting tops (beetroot, carrot, radish, horseradish) for freezing

Ingredients

Beet greens, young how much is available, bookmark portioned

Cooking method

  • Beet tops from young tops, peel, rinse, dry from excess water.
  • Harvesting tops (beetroot, carrot, radish, horseradish) for freezing
  • Cut off the red stems, keep them long. I do this so that later when cooking, I cut them and stew them separately, since the stems are cooked a little longer than the foliage. If cut along with the foliage, everything will mix together.
  • Cut the leaves of the tops with a knife.
  • Harvesting tops (beetroot, carrot, radish, horseradish) for freezing
  • Pack the stalks and leaves of the beet tops, fold in a bag, and roll tightly into a tube, remove air if possible.
  • Tie the bag with an elastic band and store in the freezer.
  • I put the tops in the bag in portions, for one serving of cooking.

Yes, and I, too, was indifferent to her ... until I began to cook from beet tops in combination with other vegetables, I even baked a pie And it turns out delicious!

Admin, and from the tops of beetroot stuffing is it like? If there is on the site, please poke your nose.

The tops are also healthier than root crops, which by spring contain almost no vitamins at all.

Admin, the filling is a real bouquet! Thank you!

And if the leaves are large enough, then you can make dolma from them right now (without putting it off for the winter). Wrap minced meat with rice, tomato and spices as usual and simmer in broth. O-very tasty! When we had a summer cottage, I specially planted chard (this is a leaf beet) for this. And now, as I see the "bouquet" of beet leaves on the market, I definitely take it. I cut and freeze the petioles, and the leaves are immediately used.
Admin

But this is the case! Irishka, thanks! I will definitely prepare stuffed cabbage rolls in beetroot wrapper

So I took it to her +, I can't guess myself.

This happens to me too And then you think how simple everything is, but I didn't finish it, sorry

I didn’t come up with it myself. But try it, it’s very tasty. One trouble - they eat like seeds, no matter how much they do, they are crushed in 20 seconds
Admin

This, the most important thing, is that they are eaten like seeds - it means all the same delicious! Boom to try!

Thanks for the tip. Now we are going to plant leaf beets.

Hello! And I cook pancakes from beet tops. Very, very tasty. Thanks for the advice, I have already frozen it!
Admin

To your health, cook with pleasure!

And today I cooked cabbage soup with beet and carrot tops and even froze this mix in the freezer
sas1974
Hello. And you can also freeze carrot tops. My mother-in-law freezes beetroot + carrot, and in winter adds it to soups. Indeed, tasty and healthy.
Admin

Speak correctly - it turned out deliciously in cabbage soup - beet tops + carrot tops - + fresh cabbage + SUPER tasty

About 7 years ago I heard on the radio a program where one woman told me that she was harvesting carrot tops, adding instead of dill in winter, but I had something ..., it’s time to try it.

Admin how you delighted me with your recipe - I love beet tops !!! And what foliage is obtained after defrosting? I somehow froze her, so then she was all kind of dry. Maybe I did something wrong?
korsar
And I know that beet tops are used in Ossetian pies in half with cheese. I tried it myself - very tasty !!!
Admin

That's right, and this is also possible!
Lelikovna
Admin, thanks for the green leaf pies recipe. Otherwise, I froze the tops this year, but I didn't think of where to use it, except for borscht
Admin

Where to use? Yes, anywhere!
Cabbage soup, borscht, in pies, stew in a pan with butter (like spinach) for a quick side dish, pour over the stewed egg, then wherever imagination works
ElenaMK
The sweet taste does not suit me a little in the tops, but I will still freeze it this year, maybe it will not be so sweet in the soup :-) Thanks for the idea!
Feta
Can you freeze the autumn tops as well?
Admin

As a rule, young tops are eaten, they are softer and contain more nutrients.
Iri55
Thank you! I love green tea! Anyone! I cooked cabbage soup, soups from the tops, cut them into salads. Freeze.
Smile
It's a good idea, but my young one goes to a beetroot, and the old one is of no interest - dots appear on it, pests bite Carrot tops I tried, but ... dill is better, especially since frozen in a container, it does not lose its flavor at all
And I only dream of pies with tops in summer, my hands do not reach, and in winter it is gone ... At least a little, but I will certainly freeze it, young! Thanks, Tanya, for the hint
Admin

Freeze and very necessary!
Cabbage soup, borscht, pies, steamed, side dishes, scrambled eggs ... more everywhere
The taste may be specific, but if you season with olive oil during cooking, salt, spices, sauces are a great solution
Iri55
And I cut greenfinches for freezing and lay them flat and thinly so that you can break off a piece, if you want a little break off, you want more.

Previously, our friend came to our garden, asked to cut the beet tops, they say, a miracle as a delicious and vitamin-rich weight. We, of course, solved it without any problems - from us, and the harvest will not decrease. But, at the same time, they twisted a finger at the temple, and secretly giggled.
Now, in the summer of course, it also comes in sometimes, but we no longer laugh and do not twist our finger. Because we already know what a difficult financial situation she was in then - she lost her breadwinner, and acquired his debts, and that she is terribly short of money for basic food for herself, mother, and child. So she collects any silage and pasture, diplomatically arguing the arrival of the valuable properties and taste of the tops ...

What am I doing? We have clearly associated the tops with poverty, when there is no money for normal human products. And it is unlikely in the future, if life goes well, we will eat this food ...Sorry ... To each his own ...

Kapet, by the way, in vershoks contains most of the vitamins. It is from the beet tops that a very tasty botvinia is obtained.
Try to make stuffed cabbage, replacing the usual cabbage with beet tops.
But I just can't bring myself to try the radish tops in the salad.
You can also, and sometimes you need to eat woodlice, quinoa, etc.
By the way, having eaten the dreams, I got rid of the pain in the knee joints. I run like a goat, otherwise it crumbled and grabbed the cane.
Admin

And what kind of pies are obtained from the "tops" - super tasty and healthy, a carriage of vitamins and a small cart
With fresh broth

Wildebeest, Thank you! But it's not mine! For 15 years on vacation with my mother-in-law in the village, to cut the tops for feed for pigs - it will not be easy to force yourself after this. And there is no need. Caesar's Caesar ...

I accidentally got rid of joint pains by being addicted to Tobasco hot sauce. I wrote about this in the topic "Osteochondrosis" ...

Everyone has their own culinary preferences, I especially grow chard for Ossetian pies. I like it, and a lot of all kinds of herbs, arugula salads, etc.

It's just that you didn't eat good Ossetian pies with this tops. Before I tried it, I also had no idea how delicious it was, although I had used young tops before - in borscht, in green soups.
And, unexpectedly, also turned out to be very tasty in the same dishes. Now I have it necessarily included in frozen briquettes for green soups, along with sorrel, spinach, green onions and young garlic leaves and arrows.

My grandmother, my mother survived the war, but even after another time and mother came. the family was in more than a position, anyway, sometimes they ate tyuryu (water, black bread, onions, a little oil).
Previously, I did not eat tops, but then it is very tasty and in a salad with green leaves and anywhere. Maybe they loved the tops too. After all, they sell dandelion leaves abroad (sort of).

Sorry for the offtopic.

Because of this, my grandfather couldn't eat zucchini for a long time.
And excuse me, but I wanted to insert so much, as a young city girl came to the village and stewed the zucchini, so my old grandfather said: I, qiu yzhu, I won't eat, there’s a pig. ”And when everyone ate and praised, at the end of the meal I dared to put .... Then he asked more than once: Divko, well, prepare a pig yji!
So probably with beet tops, you need to try.

Girls, do you think it is possible to freeze tops for cabbage rolls ... it will not become dry or, on the contrary, too soft after defrosting. I liked the cabbage rolls very much.
tatlin
So I am with the same question, we love stuffed cabbage rolls in beet tops, how can I prepare whole leaves for the winter? freeze or pickle, maybe someone did, please share.

Beet tops after the freezer becomes very soft, they will not keep their shape.
I freeze different tops for cabbage soup, for quick stewing for a side dish, such as spinach stew.
