Cooking method

  • Preparation:
  • Boil beets, carrots, potatoes in their skins (beets in separate water), cool, peel, cut into strips on a Berner grater. Cutting vegetables into thin strips makes the salad thicker.
  • Cut the onion into small cubes, put in a bowl and pour over with boiling water, drain the water, cool the onion. Thus, the onion loses its main pungency and bitterness and smell, even the next day there is no pungent onion smell.
  • Peel the herring, cut and cut the fillet into small cubes.
  • Hard boil the eggs, cool and cut into strips on a grater, mash 1 egg finely with a fork.
  • Cut the apple into thin strips. Chop the dill finely.
  • When cooking, I salt the water, so I don't add salt to the layers of salad, it is enough to coat the layers of salad with a thin layer of mayonnaise.
  • Preparation:
  • I will collect the salad in a detachable form for cakes (culinary ring), size 16 cm, height 6 cm.It is very convenient to make salads in this form, after cooking we push the ends of the form and the salad remains on the plate intact, not broken.
  • Now we collect the salad in layers, grease the layers with a small amount of mayonnaise. If the layers are thin, you can coat two layers at once.
  • A layer of potato strips
  • A layer of carrots.
  • A layer of diced herring. I always put herring on a pillow of potatoes and carrots, so a tall piece of salad is very well transferred to a plate with a cake spatula.
  • A layer of apples with straws
  • A layer of onions steamed with boiling water
  • Sprinkle onion with finely chopped fresh dill
  • A layer of strips of eggs
  • A layer of potato strips
  • Layer of beet strips. I do not coat the top layer of beets with mayonnaise, otherwise the beets will be saturated with mayonnaise, change their bright and beautiful color, and look ugly
  • Layer of eggs crushed with a fork into fine crumbs.
  • We remove the culinary ring from the salad, leave the salad on the table for a couple of hours to soak in mayonnaise.

Note

I never cook a lot of such a salad, and I don't leave it the next day. I prefer to serve salad only fresh, then it retains its color, shape and taste.
