Girls, she laughed to tears now.
I dried the onion today. I put it in a large bowl and did not close it. The husband comes: "Oh, what is so tasty with you?" I tell him that the onions are dried. Let's try it. "How delicious !!!", - he says. And dried onions are such a tricky thing: at first they are sweet, they taste like fried ones, and then when you chew all the spiciness comes out.
A minute later, the husband runs, yelling: "What did you feed me with?" (He does not eat acute because of a sick stomach).
That's always the case. I didn't offer him to eat!

In winter in soup - forgive for everything

Last year I bought a bag of onions at the wholesale market for the winter, at home I figured out that it would not last until winter (what a quality is not that ...) without hesitation, I transferred it to a dried state. It turned out four 3-liter cylinders. He has such a beautiful color - pale yellow! And the smell! How he, this dried onion, helped me out.
At the moment I have one bottle left, I opened the lid, the smell - Stunned !!! So dry, dry the onions for the winter!
Olima
Girls, how do you use dried onions? I dried one liter jar for testing in the fall, added it to the soup once, everyone said that it was not tasty. So I still have it. In addition to the soup, where else can you attach it?
Stafa
I constantly put it in bread - I bake it according to the main recipe and add 2 tablespoons of dried onion and a little more water by 20-30 grams. This bread turned out to be the most demanded.
Catwoman
Taaaaak, one more Wishlist was added and where to buy this Isidri?
Stafa
Why is izidra to you? I have a Zelmer drying and it dries very well too.
Olima
Stafa, thanks for the idea . After all, I used to bake onion bread, I just added raw onion and everyone liked it too. Tomorrow I will try to bake bread with dried onions, and why did this idea not occur to me?

Yes? Then how much is this miracle? We have to prepare for the harvesting season.

And what kind of bread it becomes delicious toasted in a toaster or AF.

How else can you dry vegetables without an electric dryer?
Nathalte
It is possible in a convection oven, or in an airfryer. But the volume in the dryer is larger, and the temperature can be set to the desired one.
I finally bought it, I'm torturing it now. And I will certainly make the bow. Last year I brought a bag of white and red from the Kuban. Red survived until spring, but white spruce in the form of green: sprouted all. It was a pity. And now you don't have to worry.

Can only fruits and vegetables be dried in an electric dryer? For example, have you tried drying / withering squid or pieces of meat in it?
Nathalte
I haven't tried it yet. But I saw a lot of recipes, and there are also here, look. As I understand it, it all depends on the power, that is, for meat, it should be at least 500 watts. By the way, in mine there is a special tray for meat juice, so I will try to dry the meat.

I cut the onions and carrots into cubes, cover the baskets of the dryer with gauze and dry. The view is more beautiful. In general, dried onions have a more pleasant aroma in a dish than fresh ones.
GenyaF
I have already dried a 3 liter jar of green onions. It's so fragrant! I add to the bread. She cut the feathers into three or four parts, dried them, and then simply kneaded them into a coarse powder by hand. We sell a mixture of Priraka - green onions, dill and parsley, a bag of 7 UAH costs. And I have a full garden of this greenery, it's a sin not to use it. Now parsley with dill to dry.

Good day. Today I got my hands on the Saf-moment yeast for pizza, I bought it for some occasion and I don't remember. She opened the bag and sniffed it smell. Did not dare to use, expired. But what is there, what is there, it smells so nice. Contains onion powder. I don't like the smell of onions, but here I liked it so much that I didn't recognize it right away. I quickly cut up the remnants of the onions I had at home and set them to dry. A month ago I received my Ezidri, but there was still no opportunity to experience it. Now I'm waiting for my onion to dry. I really hope that my onion will also smell good. Well, I've never met such a miracle as dried onions before.
Trishka
Girls, tell me when to dry onions - the smell is very strong?
And then. I am afraid my household will "evict" me along with the dryer onto the balcony.
Tasha
It all depends on the bow. This year I have it "evil" and smelly. But I love the smell of dried onions. And the dryer lives and works on the loggia. Therefore...
Trishka
Well, Duc is on the loggia, and the smell of dried onions is different.
But when you just put fresh, does it smell strong at first?

Is it possible to lose such a wonderful addition to broths because of the smell?
The smell is normal, tolerable. I also dry on the loggia, so I don’t hear the dryer, I don’t see it, and I don’t smell
Trishka
I'll try .., maybe if I dry it with something else together, then the smell will not be so "audible".

I once dried at home in the winter, put it down and went into the room to do other things, went into the kitchen after a couple of hours and realized that I would no longer dry onions in the room * smiley with pinched nose *

But = death to microbes !! I will definitely dry it = this summer was very damp and cold, some onion is not the same as not ripe, I will use half of the harvest for drying

And we all loved the flavor of the drying onions! Tasty!

In this situation, a good solution is to preserve the harvest and be with onions for cooking, this will not deteriorate
Tasha
Dried onions are a lifesaver. At least in the first courses, at least in baking ... Bread with such onions ... Hmmm !!!!!
Irgata
Tanya, what do you think - if you first salt the onion, like berries and fruits, you sugar to draw out excess moisture, did you do that? I'll do the next batch of onions like this - I'll sign off on the results. the first batch in the dryer - it doesn't smell disgusting. in the second half of drying - already plowed as if stewed meat
Admin

Ira, I did not make such experiments and mockery of the bow
Dried onions, after cooling, do not have a strong smell, and I store the vegetable mixture in closed jars, where everything is in a heap - onions, carrots, celery, etc., etc.

I'll try once, and suddenly ... and onion juice, already salty, can be in the freezer, well, at least then in minced meat or some kind of dough, soup ... but I also store drying in pillowcases (apples are the most of them) or for beauty in bags-bags from a regular sale store - something for 30 rubles, they are fabric and with handles. can be hung, they are also multi-colored

fabric and with handles. can be hung, they are also multi-colored

Well, finally! Solid vegetable-handbag-colorful design in the home pantry - you go in, and there ... the petty-beauty-eyes run up, and you forgot why you came

my dad does not tolerate onions in any form, except fresh. And I can't cook soups / borscht / meat / vegetables without onions. I got the hang of rubbing it on the finest grater, squeezing out the juice. I simmer the almost dry cake in vegetable oil until it is well golden brown - then it becomes generally dry and fine, like a seasoning. I use it in this form when I cook for him.
and I use onion juice only in marinades for meat. I tried to add to the minced meat - it tastes strong.

Here's what I noticed - if the onion is smashed to puree with a knife in a food processor - he will be very bitter - for some reason, what is smaller than him just chop- the more bitter. but I want to extract the juice from the onion in a natural way - with salt - the principle of diffusion (cleverly ....)

I agree that when the onion dries, it smells unpleasant at first. when the aroma already starts to dry out from it. I dried three three-liter cans this year! Began to dry to preserve the harvest. From the purchased set, the onion began to deteriorate. And I liked it dried so much that I will always dry it now. And when ground in a coffee grinder, it goes great, like a super seasoning!
* Anyuta *
This year we had to urgently dispose of onions, because last fall, instead of 1 bag "for the winter", the husband (pancake breadwinner) brought home 2 bags. In the spring, the bow began to disappear. For a long time I did not dare to start sorting out the onions "for discard" and only a week after my torment I remembered that in the fall I was "stocked" with a dryer ...
I read the mat carefully. part and started ....
The first batch was dried for a long time, although it was laid out in a thin layer. When I was preparing for the second visit, I peeled the onion in advance, cut it and left it on the table.
Now look at the photo:
Dried onions

The one on the left was dried immediately after cutting - with a duration of 11.30 - 12.00 hours.
The one on the right - was lying on the table for a couple of hours - in the dryer after 3 hours it began to blush very much - it even looks like a burnt one (this is how the photo conveyed the color), but it dried out for 6.30 - 7.00 hours, taking into account the fact that I cut the onions larger.
In short, I still have half a bag of onions left for processing. So now I will try again, first for a couple of hours, just leave it on the table, and then send it to the dryer and look at the drying speed of the onion, but I immediately guess that it will not be faster than that of a freshly cut one ...
Admin

The first onion took longer to dry, because it was raw, contained onion juice - and in order to start the drying process, it was necessary for the liquid to be removed from the onion, then the onion would begin to fade. I prefer to give a strong T * first, dry the onions and then dry them. At the same time, the onion turns out to be of a beautiful color, which looks very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing in the finished dish, and no one will say "fi" to the supposedly burnt onion

I do this ...
Njashka
This year I also dried the onions in the dryer and put them in jars for storage. I open the other day in the soup to put .... and there .... and there .. onion worms
Admin

So the onion was underdried.
For example, after the dryer, I put vegetables in bags and leave them open for a long time so that the vegetables dry to the end.
After the dryer, vegetables have such a property when they pick up moisture from the air.
Njashka
The fact of the matter is that after drying, I had it for another 3 days on pallets, dried up .. it looked dry ..
now I don’t know how to dry it before ..
Admin

Yuganna, I have nothing to say
I dry it every year, make a mix of dried vegetables, store it in a birch box on the balcony all year round - the flight is normal.
Njashka
Here is sadness, so sadness .. I got dried apples the other day .. and there these bastards .. had to be thrown into the oven
Admin
Not completely dry! A humid environment is always good for the development of negativity.

Has anyone tried drying fried onions in a dryer? To make the chips? Want to give it a try, can anyone have any tips?
Admin

There is a lot of oil in fried onions from frying, it will remain in the dryer and onions, the oil does not dry out.

And the chips should crunch.
To get onion chips, they need to be cooked in a deep fat fryer, in a lot of oil. You need to look at the technology of deep-frying onions, most likely you first need to rinse it from onion juice-mucus, then marinate and then dry it from liquid and deep fat.

Thanks for the advice! I won't even try in the dryer
Irina742
Admin, Tatyana! Hello! Start drying the onions. I can't buy Isidri yet, I bought Polaris. The onions were dried for 7 hours at 65 degrees. It seemed a bit damp to me, put it in a basket with holes and on the battery. What do you think you did the right thing? After 8 hours, he became fragile. or better to dry in an electric dryer. I read that you also finish drying it.

I cut the onion into circles on the Berner and washed it and dried it on the warm floor
Admin

Any drying after the dryer becomes soft, as it collects moisture from the air, especially in cold and humid weather.
It's hot in the dryer, the kitchen is humid and damp - that's the reaction.

This is normal!
In any case, I always keep the finished drying for some time in an open place, in a bowl-bowl, so that the drying is completely ripe and dry.
And only then I put the dryer in storage.

Vegetables and fruits are different in plasticity. The more sugar in the products, the more plastic and softer it will be, even fully cooked.
Irgata
for the third year I have been drying onions, the flight is normal, I cut them thinner and thicker in a combine, I pour Rotors in bulk on pallets, a lot, on a grid and dries pretty quickly

the smell of drying onions is awesomely pleasant, stored well, even last year's onions smell very bright and pleasant

now it's not surprising to dry,
