Category: Yeast bread
Challah

Ingredients

Bakery flour 400 g
Water (70-80 degrees C) 240 ml
Salt 1.5 tsp.
Sugar or honey 2.5 tbsp. l.
Butter, melted and chilled 60 g
Dry yeast sachet
Lightly beaten egg 2 pcs.
For glaze:
Egg
whipped with a little milk
1 PC.

Cooking method

  • 1. Sift some flour. add yeast, sugar, salt, stir
  • 2. Collect flour in a hill and pour water (hot) with a whisk in a thin stream, add eggs and butter. By adding flour, knead a dense but elastic dough. Lubricate it with vegetable oil, cover with cling film and let it rise for 1 hour.
  • 3. With a fist we make 2 rpm. On a pan (I covered it with baking paper) we form a loaf (I made cuts on it) and leave it to come up for another 40 minutes, having previously covered it with a napkin.
  • 4. Lubricate the bread with an egg and milk, sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds and send to the oven for 35-40 minutes.

Time for preparing:

Cooking 30 min + 2 hours raising the dough Baking: 40 min

Note

I would like to suggest a recipe for Challah, which I baked today. The recipe is taken from the book "Buns and Bread at Home".
I changed the recipe because there are more ingredients in the bookstore.
I didn't braid it with a pigtail due to lack of time and made a loaf (very tasty). But next time I'll do a pigtail!
